Let's Welcome GoDaddy Into Our Open Source Communities

This week, we published the first post about Drupal on GoDaddy.com: "What you need to know about Drupal 8".

GoDaddy is a really fascinating company, but most of you probably didn't expect them to be interested in Drupal.

You probably know some of the GoDaddy story.
You've seen the commercials with half-naked women. You may know about Bob Parsons, their ex-CEO, who was a public relations genius ... until he wasn't. Parsons built an empire on using SuperBowl commercials, NASCAR sponsorship and risqué advertising to sell hosting and domain names. But, in later years, Parsons made several major PR gaffes. And, it didn't help that GoDaddy also had a reputation for poor-quality hosting.

Turn on Error Reporting for Joomla Super Users Only

Joomla's default error reporting is great for debugging a test site. However, Joomla's error reporting is not ideal for live sites because it's visible to everyone, including your users.

Let's fix that with a plugin called Easy Error Reporting.

What Were You Doing 10 Years Ago When Joomla Arrived?

Joomla is celebrating it's 10th birthday this month.

When Joomla launched in 2005, it was a different internet. There were no iPhones, no Twitter, no Chrome, no Instagram. Social media,  apps and the mobile web barely existed at all. It was a more innocent time online, before Edward Snowden and the NSA.

Fast forward 10 years and Joomla has changed many of our lives. I asked our team this question:
"What were you doing 10 years ago when Joomla arrived?".
Here are their answers. We'd love to hear your stories too - please post them in the comments.

How to Change Usernames in WordPress

So you'd like to change a username on your site?

Unfortunately, a default installation of WordPress doesn't allow username changes.

When you go to edit a user, the username is greyed out and there's a "Usernames cannot be changed" message beside it.

How to Find a Slow WordPress Plugin

Your site's getting popular, but with the increased traffic, it seems slower. You picked a fast host, enabled caching, but for some reason, it's still loading slowly. What's causing the performance issue?

The answer is that it's likely an unoptimized WordPress plugin. One slow plugin can slow down the entire site.

This tutorial will introduce you to P3 (Plugin Performance Profiler). With it, you'll be able to see each plugin's performance on the site.

How to Edit Joomla Modules via the Front-end

One of the hardest things about updating a Joomla site used to be figuring out which module to edit:

What was the name of the module?
What position was the module in?

Thanks to a new feature Joomla 3.4, that problem can now be solved very easily. You can edit your modules just by visiting the front-end of your site and clicking on them.

Drupal 8: What do Site-Builders Need to Know?

Over the last few weeks, we've been working really hard on preparing training for Drupal 8.

We'll release the training close to the actual launch date of Drupal 8, but before then we have a great video to get you started.

This is a webinar we did with Acquia called, "10 Things Site Builders Need to Know Before Leaping to Drupal 8".

I talked about the many user-friendly features in Drupal 8, including the mobile-friendly admin interface and the in-place WYSIWYG editor, plus improvements in theming and module development:
