EYE

This oil painting on canvas, 4x5 feet, is inspired by an anatomy of the eye. This is an abstract and not a medical illustration. The left yellow suggests a lens. The right layers of green, red and yellow represent the retina. The black long structure at the right lower corner makes the optic nerve.
The lens focusses the image on the retina. The image is then carried by the optic nerve to the brain. The brain tells you what you are seeing.- Arun Dabholkar, Ph.D.

Media thrives on sensationalism

Gone are the days when media battled for communal harmony and democratic establishment in the societies across the border. It was popular and valued in the past because it spoke for the least spoken and voiced their concerns to the populace for smooth and democratic governance in the society. Factual journalism gradually perished over past few years due to exponential growth in the number of T.V. channels and Newspapers that eventually invited deadly competition amongst the media houses. And...

Sachin: Just Not Cricket

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, a name that even a newly born would be aware of. His competency on the field is unmatched. The title, "God of Cricket" is indeed apt enough when it comes to his cricket. However, like the God, creator of this universe, puts us in doubt at times that He might have done some mistakes, not everything He created is perfect, and few things of His are questionable.
Rightly so, this legendary cricketer too puts me in doubt at times. I don't doubt the life that creates on the ...

Atoms

This artistic imagination was inspired by the high-resolution electron microscope photograph of atoms. The scientists now can record the image of atoms with improved nanotechnology. It is interesting that most things in life are evolved roundish.
This drawing was done in "Ms-Paint" computer program.

Pawan Malhotra: Intensity par Excellence

What a black humour!
To call stylish walker, a langda.
Pawan Malhotra as Salim wearing a steel belt around his waist in "Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro" is a langda for his friends.
A complete novice about dadagiri in the area like Nagpada in Mumbai had a question tormenting; what kind of style is this to wear a steel belt. They, the dadas, never did wield pistols then. They had the rampuris in their hip pockets, giving dadagiri a masculine style. But that was for the super, upper rank dadas. What...

School of Love

From very young age, we are all conditioned to keep safe distance from the opposite sex, in-fact at times; an individual of opposite sex is made to be believed as an enemy.
And, one fine day one tries to and in most of the cases starts to love the enemy!
I don't advocate marriage, but if you are planning to get married, at least go through 10 break-ups. Now, I used 'at least' considering that an average intelligent person should be to grasp the realities of life in those many attempts...

Abhinay Deo: Daring Adman, Filmmaker and A Marathi Manoos

I have loved Marathi culture and the Marathi art – literature, theatre, cinema, et al. However, lately I have ended up frustrated watching Bharat Jadhav, Makarand Anaspure movies. PuLa's humour of yesteryears still makes me laugh but no art form of recent times has brought a smile to me. A judge on Fu Bai Fu becomes a participant in an equally pathetic show on Sony TV. A Marathi film title sounds like a latest Salman's hit movie. The titles of Marathi dramas have no head or tail – "Chehra...

Dear Ganpati Bappa

I was astounded by Hazare's dexterity to unite the people of this country for a common cause – fight corruption. Anna did a splendid job in channelizing the anger of his countrymen. However, I am still skeptical about will it really eradicate corruption. I frankly still don't know what Lokpal Bill is all about, how effective it will be, how exactly it will help eradicate corruption, and how will the corrupt be nailed – I chose to be ignorant about all this while enjoying my beer and penning...

The Prince, The Professor of Carefree Dancing

Today, it was that time of the year when millions of Mumbaikars gather in long processions to welcome their beloved elephant God – Ganesha. People enjoy the dhol-tasha-lezhim rhythms, the carefree dancing, the colours of gulal, and are lost in the spiritual extravaganza seeking blessings from their Lord. The elderly watch the processions with their folded hands, and the little ones smile-giggle-clap looking at the huge idols. The mood overall all is ecstatic and emotional. I have been...

It Happens Only In India

This land of largest democratic polity
With the greatest economic stability
For long hasn't had single largest majority
On the verge of losing its ancient tranquility
With heads and leaders full of opacity
Ravaging the treasures ostentatiously
Bitten, smitten by a mocking incongruity
For they, who swear by integrity
Will be locked with those ill performing their duty
Yet not ashamed to announce proudly
Yes, I live in such a country
For there is, nonetheless, one who instills unity
One who marches with a ...
