Free the Cup! The Case for Rescuing the Stanley Cup from the NHL

Kids with the Stanley Cup at the 2009 Hockey Hall of Fame Legends Game in Toronto.

The NHL needs the Stanley Cup.

Lockout Alternatives: College Hockey

The Minnesota Gophers celebrate their 2011 NCAA Women's Hockey Championship.

Maybe they're enjoying the time off.

Sidney Crosby and Brandon Prust as junior hockey players.

A ticket for the price of a movie, everyone has a decent seat, and you get an early look at the NHL's next generation.

What's not to like about junior hockey?

Last week we showcased the American Hockey League, which operates teams in 15 states and three provinces.

All Quiet as the NHL Schedule Burns

Evgeni Malkin and Ilya Bryzgalov and other NHL players are playing in Europe during the lockout.

NHL players want more. The owners are offering them much, much less.

It's a "pretty substantial monetary gulf" as NHLPA exec Don Fehr put it a few weeks ago.

But there appears to be little urgency to bridge that gulf and end the NHL lockout.
