A Prayer Answered
He knelt in prayer at the altar everyday. His prayer is simple and remained unchanged always. Never once did he skip his daily prayer. One fine day, his prayer was answered. His wish fulfillment remained a secret that he brought to his grave. None knew that what he most coveted was a peaceful death.

A Praying Man
What should I do? Which way should I turn? Who can I ask? My knees crack when I bend them and my forehead rests in cupped palms. I know but one source of true help. With eyes squeezed shut, I implore and wait for direction. Peace enters my heart, and I offer thanks.

Grandpa Won't Die
On a feeble bed there he lies wheezing. The inescapable twilight took away his recollection. The torment on his old scabbed skin is the only thing that reminds him of his existence.
Oh what a painful night. Yet the hopefuls heard him pray. He always prayed for miracles.
Only this time he prayed for death.

A Prayer Answered
The world stopped spinning, sending the kneeling Sinew hurtling through flaming sky. He never prayed for peace; his war-torn planet would not recognize it. He only desired understanding.
Miles above the ravished terrain, Sinew saw the ugliness of the entire world. Then he understood. He felt relief as the flames devoured him.

Answer
"I don't do this often."
The church was empty, lights dim.
"I need help."
Blood. Not his own, but painted on his lips.
"Fix me. Please."
Silence except for his racing heart. The building moaned against a breeze.
He tucked the knife into his jacket and waited for an answer.

What Aztec God Will Set Me Free?
This diet of corn is unsound
And now I sit here and squat
I don't care what anyone says
It's better to shit that to not!

Salvation
The world had danced with the Devil for too long…and now felt the consequences. Its foundations disintegrated, turning into dust.
Memories of a golden past were at every corner… but its fragrance could not be enjoyed anymore. Demonic fire ravaged the skies, suffocating any stream of light.
But salvation came…
From a Praying Man.

Here Again
The floor's now accustomed to me, and I to it. We know each other, we have an understanding.
Not sure why I'm here again; maybe I thought you'd respond. My legs have gone numb from the kneeling. Busy schedule, I understand… but is a lending ear too much to ask? I hope not.
I'm getting up now.

Almighty's Kingdom
Once upon a time there were three Kingdoms.
The Kingdom of Evil, The Kingdom of Greed and The Kingdom of Love.
The Kings of Evil and Greed joined hands and declared war on The Kingdom of Love and so started the never ending brutal war. To stop the blood shed thus came 'The Almighty' and made a pact with all three Kings and merged The Kingdoms into one 'The Kingdom of Earth.'
Today this Kingdom is ruled by all three Kings: Evil, Greed and Love.
Abhay.

July Flash Story Contest Winners
I'd like to announce the winners of the July Flash Story contest. The prompt was "An Eccentric Woman" (pictured here on the right).
Normally, there should be only one winner. However, because July was the contest's first month, and because I really loved these stories, I decided to announce 3 winners today.
So, here we go:
# 1: Overall Winner is Wanda Mcdonald with "What We Don't Know, She Will".
# 2: Best Imagery Winner is Lane Diamond with "Sipping".
# 3: Strongest Emotion is Yasleh with "Frozen".
The prize for the Overall Winner is the pre-announced $55; the other two winning prizes are $30 each.
I'll contact the winners by email to arrange the Paypal payment to them.
I really enjoyed all the stories. This isn't an empty statement. As you see, it has taken me 5 days of agony to select the winners. Many thanks to all, and let's begin our August contest!
The prompt for August is:
A Praying Man
