Announcing Battered Not Broken, My New Contemporary Releasing Dec. 19
Here it is, the new contemporary romance I've been looking forward to announcing today. :)
Ryan Moore forged his own path when he defied his wealthy family’s expectations by joining the United States Marine Corps as an enlisted man. After a period of service that’s cut short by an IED explosion, the lingering physical and mental effects of war result in an isolated struggle to exist in the civilian world. He throws himself into competitive MMA fighting – the one thing he’s still able to excel at, even if every match is a risk he can’t afford to take.
His first encounter with amateur female fighter Ally Rivera ignites a spark of desire he hasn’t felt since before a bomb left its marks on his life and his body, but his flirtation with her turns out to be anything but harmless. She’s struggling to hold together a family ravaged by violence – a feat that isn’t easy when her father has been imprisoned, leaving her vulnerable to relatives who run a local gang. Can two unrelenting fighters overcome challenges they couldn’t defeat alone, or do the wounds of war and crime run too deep for even love to heal?
Ebook Releasing December 19, 2012
Paperback edition to follow in January
Full-Length Novel

I'm excited about this book for so many reasons, not least of which is the fact that it's an MMA romance. As a few of you may know (okay, probably only those who took part in or witnessed the great 'man sweat' debate of facebook that one time), I've been involved in multiple forms of martial arts since I was a teen. Mostly just for pleasure and recreation, but I even did a little bit of competitive fighting for extra cash during my college years. So, it was a delight to combine something I know and enjoy and elements of imagination to create this story.
Of course, as the blurb makes clear, there's much more to this story than MMA. This is a long book that deals with multiple issues and elements, all aspects of the story that I truly enjoyed writing about. I can't wait for you to meet Ally, my tough heroine, and Ryan, my latest sexy, tattooed hero.
I've updated my site (www.ranaerose.com) with all the latest info on Battered Not Broken. Sometime before release day, I'll also be posting an excerpt there. And on Wednesday, I'll be here blogging about why I chose to write an MMA romance. See you then!
P.S. On an unrelated but awesome note, I've got a special surprise for my newsletter subscribers this month. The December issue of my newsletter will go out sometime before the 7th and will include a very special feature and giveaway. If you're not a subscriber and would like to be, you can sign up here.

Another Contemporary Romance (Finally!)
Fall always seems to be a busy time of year for me. Of course, that doesn't really mean much since I can't think of a time during this past year that wasn't busy for me. (No rest for the wicked! LOL) But anyway, I remember that this time last year I was preparing for the release of Hot Ink. Since then, I've spent much of my time working on my paranormal series, like Half Moon Shifters and Sleepy Hollow.
I love writing paranormals and paranormal historicals, but it's about time for another contemporary love story, don't you think? I love writing about the real world too and in the case of my most recently completed contemporary, I also really enjoyed 'writing what I know'.
My latest contemporary romance novel is currently being prepared for publication. I haven't posted anything about it on my site - I've pretty much kept it under wraps, and have been hard at work on it with my editor / default confidant. It's not a part of any series of mine, but a totally new book with characters no one's met before. And it revolves around a subject I'm personally passionate about. I can't wait to share the details.
On Monday (December 3), I'm going to announce the book. Everything will be revealed - the cover, title, blurb and official release date, which is soon. I'll make a special post here and all the info will also go up on my site, plus I'll share it on my facebook / twitter.
I'm really excited about making the big reveal. I feel like this winter is the perfect time for my latest contemporary to be released. Hot Ink has been a bestseller for many months now (thank you!) and I think this book will appeal to many who enjoyed Hot Ink, so I'm proud to be able to offer a full-length contemporary romance novel that those readers will hopefully love.
See you back here Monday! I'll introduce my latest tattooed hero (just wait 'till you see him on the book's cover!) and his heroine, and you won't have to wait long to read their story, promise. ;)

Six Sentence Sunday - Wuthering Heights
“Yes,” I replied. “Of course.”
“Ah,” he said, leaning close to me again, so that his breath warmed my lips when he spoke, “then you remember spitting at me because you were angry that your father brought me home to you instead of a new riding crop.” He raised the crop he gripped in his hand so that the flap of leather on the end touched my face. Ever so slowly, he stroked my cheek, and the touch of leather against my skin was as gentle as a breeze. I could not reason why, but I quivered with elation, even as guilt assailed me, conjured by the memory he had invoked.

Black Friday Blog Hop & Giveaway

As you're reading this, I'm not home - but I'm not Black Friday shopping, either. I would rather be tied to a chair and forced to listen to this recording of Gilbert Gottfried reading from Fifty Shades of Grey on a continuous loop. (*shudder* That voice...)
I tried Black Friday shopping once, just to see what all the excitement was about. In one of the busiest locations on the Eastern Seaboard.
Never. Again. I like shopping, but when everyone else is doing it and I feel like I need a melee weapon or some kind of laser beam to cut through the manic crowds, count me way out.
What about you - do you shop on Black Friday, or do you stay home, batten down the hatches and wait out the biggest retail frenzy of the year, maybe with a good book? Let me know, and if you are reading instead of shopping, what are you reading? Tell me in a comment including your e-mail address and you'll be included in the grand prize drawing, plus my drawing for a signed paperback copy of my contemporary tattoo romance Hot Ink.
All the prizes...
1st Grand Prize: Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet (winner's choice - international)
2nd Grand Prize: $75 Amazon or B&N Gift Card (winner's choice - international)
3rd Grand Prize: Swag Pack containing paperbacks, ebooks, 50+ bookmarks, cover flats, magnets, pens, coffee cozies, and more! (US only)
My individual prize: Signed paperback copy of Hot Ink (US only)

Mina never meant to fall for her sexy tattoo artist, Eric, or to become a model. But when she's asked to pose in a photo shoot for the Hot Ink tattoo studio, she can't say no. She finally gets a look at Eric's tattoos when they're cajoled into posing together, and in a few breathtaking moments, an on-camera kiss turns the passion they're asked to fake into something very real, leaving them both wanting more. The only problem is that Mina's not the glamour girl she looks like on the Hot Ink posters, or even in a tattoo magazine. She's only twenty-four, but being the sole guardian of her disabled younger sister has left her feeling much older. Will Eric still be interested when he gets to know the girl behind the ink and the make-up and finds out that she and her little sister are a package deal?

Military M/M Romance Spotlight - Boots on the Ground by Angela S. Stone
Today I'm spotlighting a new release by my friend Angela S. Stone. It's a military M/M romance and Angela is awesome so I just had to share the news. :) I'm also on the road, and am preparing to share some big news of my own when I return. So, see you back here then - for now enjoy this peek into Boots on the Ground!
Ash Cooper and Jason McCarty know they need to do one thing, and one thing alone: stay alive.
An IED attack destroyed their convoy and left them both injured in the high desert of Afghanistan and running from insurgents. They take refuge with a group of Afghan civilians, and their only hope of rescue is two satellite phones that might be damaged beyond repair.
Ash and Jason join forces with a British army nurse to survive the harsh living conditions. As days to turn to weeks, they think of home, the husbands they left behind, and the lives they want to return to.
But with food rations running short, the elders angry at them, and the hope of rescue lost, Ash and Jason start to give up, and in the end turn to each other in their struggle for survival.
Read on for an excerpt...
The concussive force of the blast blew Ash backwards out of his seat. He could feel the armored vehicle turning end over end. It took him a moment to grasp the car had stopped. He felt dizzy and disorientated, blinking a couple of times. Where in the heck was he? The dust of the desert started to settle, and he remembered. Civilian police, Afghanistan, patrol convoy, IED.He started to move only to bite back a hiss of pain. His shoulder flared with agony. Motherfucker. He couldn’t tell what happened to his arm, but it hurt like a son of a bitch. His escort and their translator were the other people in the armored vehicle, and they were still and silent. Ash cradled his arm as he started to move, his training helping him to squelch the pain. They were in one of the most volatile and insurgent-ridden districts of Afghanistan. The IED blast had to have been huge to send their armored vehicle flying, especially one five cars from the lead. Ash glanced though the broken windshield. The force had blown them back and clear of the debris field. There were four vehicles up ahead, all burning or smoking. Ash checked again for signs of life in the other passengers around him. He found none. There was, however, unwelcome activity up ahead. A group of armed men moved towards the blast sight, maybe about a kilometer away and closing in fast—insurgents. Ash’s instincts met his training, and he kicked into overdrive: scavenge what he could from the wreckage, check for survivors, and find cover. The door on the passenger side had the least amount of damaged, and after a couple of kicks it creaked open enough to allow Ash to exit. He picked up the medical kit, the water, and anything else tossed loose during the blast, as well as two weapons. Swinging the supplies over his good shoulder and clutching one of the two rifles, he started to move towards the blast site. The first vehicle ahead was a light armored vehicle like the one he had been riding in. He knew the three other CivPol members were inside the LAV along with an escort and driver. One door and one side of the vehicle were blown clean off, and the driver and the passenger in the front seat were most definitely dead. The two passengers in the back were also dead. Ash moved to check the person in the rear seat, relieved to hear coughs and groans. With the dust and the dirt and the blood pouring from the man’s head wound, Ash strained to recognize him. After a moment he could clearly make out the outline of Jason through the gore. He glanced up. The insurgents were advancing. The smoke and dust obscured the two men for the moment, but that wouldn’t last long. He had to get them both undercover pronto.“Jason, Jason,” Ash hissed. He grabbed the slumped man’s vest, shaking him. “Jason, wake the fuck up.”Jason’s eye’s fluttered open. “Come on. We have to move! Now!”Jason just nodded his head but didn’t move. Having only one working arm meant Ash couldn’t hoist him up. He dropped the scavenged gear out onto the ground, and with his good arm he dragged Jason out of the vehicle. He pulled them both to the side, behind the tire, camouflaging and giving them a bit of cover. Ash opened the medical kit and staunched the bleeding on Jason’s head wound. He didn’t appear to have any other injuries. Although still dazed he started coming around and responded to Ash’s voice.“Stay low,” Ash said as he handed Jason one of the rifles he’d recovered. “We’ve got insurgents closing in on our location.”

Six Sentence Sunday - Wuthering Heights
“Bind me,” I said, my courage revived, “bind me as you used to and make love to me. Whatever has happened, we are together now.”
“I would bind you to myself for all eternity if I could,” he said, “but even the strongest ropes and tightest knots cannot replace the invisible ties that you have severed. You are one half of my soul, of my very being, and yet you have betrayed me.” He stroked my cheek with fingers that seemed suddenly as cold as the brine-laden wind. “Cathy, my traitorous heart .”

As he uttered speech fit to rend my heart in two, a great wave struck the side of the ship, rocking the vessel violently and flooding the deck with a deluge of saltwater. Poseidon’s grip proved stronger than Heathcliff’s and I was torn from his arms. Cold paralysed me while the rush of liquid blinded me, and by the time I was able to open my eyes again, I had already been thrown overboard.
Salt stung my eyes and nose as I was tossed to and fro by the waves, an unlucky plaything in their midst. The water was frigid and my feet struck nothing as I kicked, struggling desperately to propel myself enough to avoid sinking below the choppy surface. Thoughts of finned creatures with gaping maws—the very stuff of nightmares—pierced my consciousness, yet the majority of my horror centred around the fact that Heathcliff remained on board the ship while I fought the vicious waves, each moment being carried farther out to sea by currents I could not control and had no real hope of surmounting.

Autumn's Harvest Blog Hop & Giveaway

Fall is my favorite season. I love the weather and there are always exciting things going on for me at this time of year. This month is even the one year anniversary of when I became a full-time romance novelist!
This fall I'm hard at work on my latest book. Last fall, I wrote my contemporary tattoo romance Hot Ink, which was published later that year. So today, for the Autumn's Harvest blog hop, I'm giving away a signed paperback copy of Hot Ink. Because tattooed heroes are sexy year round. ;) And of course, there are the grand prizes too...
Grand Prize 1: Kindle Fire or Nook Tablet (winner's choice - international giveaway)
Grand Prize 2: $50 Amazon or B&N gift card (winner's choice - international giveaway)
Grand Prize 3: Swag pack that contains paperback books, book marks, ebooks, magnets and all sorts of other goodies from the hop's participating authors (US only giveaway)
Participating is easy. In order to be included in the prize drawings, simply leave a comment including your e-mail address on this post, telling me whether you've ever had a crush on a tattooed hero (or heroine) of your own. It could be anyone - a real-life acquaintance, celebrity, your significant other or even a book character!
I'll even 'fess up myself. My first tattooed crush was rock musician Davey Havok. (Cool tattoos, huh?) When I was a young teen I had a HUGE crush on him. LOL Nowadays I have my own tattooed hero and I'm always falling in love with new ones in books, too. ;)

'A delightful story of love, tattoos, responsibility, fate and taking chances.' -Manic Readers
'A lot of great sexual tension.' -Ms. Romantic Reads
November - My 1 Year Anniversary of Being a Full-Time Author
I'm used to thinking of November as an anniversary month. This used to be solely because it's the month during which my husband and I got married, but now I have another reason to celebrate. Last November, I became a full-time romance novelist.
Before then, I was published, but also held down another job. I spent a lot of time traveling for it and it wasn't a bad job, but of course, I would rather have been writing!
It was a physical and mental relief when I wrapped up a program I'd contracted myself to and sat down at my computer the next day knowing I could just write, and write and write without looking at the clock, seeing it tick down to when I'd have to depart for my next cluster of work destinations.
Being a full-time published author isn't easy. However, it's something I enjoy very much and is literally the one thing in the world I'd rather be doing than anything else. Not many people can say that about their job, so every day I think about how fortunate I am to be able to devote myself fully to what I'm passionate about.
So thank you to those who read my books, as well as the other people who've supported and encouraged me, such as bloggers, editors, some of my fellow authors, etc. I work hard to bring you stories that I hope you'll love, but I wouldn't be a full-time author if it wasn't for your support. You've made this first year of full-time writing wonderful for me, and I'm looking forward to the next.
P.S. Today the BookEnd 2 BookEnd Blog launched a giveaway for a signed paperback copy of my book Sleepy Hollow: Haunted Passions and Whiskey Dreams. If you'd like to participate, you can do so here.

Six Sentence Sunday - Wuthering Heights
He owed me some comfort, and I told him as much.
“Comfort?” he asked. “The wind whips my face and hands raw daily, and the only comfort I experience is a fleeting sense of deception that sometimes pervades my dreams and tricks me into believing, if only for a few moments, that I am at Wuthering Heights and have not yet been betrayed. Like a fool, I savour those transient seconds, though when I wake my reality is that much more stark for having clung to them. How dare you think, for even a moment, that I have taken comfort in leaving you?”
I was not fit to reply.
