The Golden Gods

It’s taken me a day to recover but Monday night was the 10th Metal Hammer magazine ‘Golden Gods’ awards ceremony and what a night it was! I’ve been writing for the magazine since 2005 and I think I’ve been to almost every single one of the awards they’ve held but Monday’s was definitely the best so far.

For the last few years, it’s taken place at the Indig02, otherwise known as the massive 02 Arena’s offpsring, and that’s where it was held again this time round. Inside, there wasa mixture of c...

World Goth Day

For those not acquainted with online trends, today’s big social media topichas beenWorld Goth Day. Launched off the back of BBC 6 Music’s Goth Day back in 2009 and sent global, WGD originally aimed to raise goth’s public profile and has since provided the opportunity for us to appreciate the very cogs that keep the gothic wheel turning. From bands to media and clubs, we’re being encouraged to embrace it all and quite simply ‘Get Our Goth On!’ As Rhys The Goth from those recent home insurance...

Europe’s most purrfect cafe!

Last weekend, I spotted a lovely news item on the webthat made me go ‘awww!’ The BBC, and indeed a number of other sites, reported on the opening of Europe’s first cat cafe in Austria. The establishment in Vienna houses five strays, who roam freely ascustomers relax with a newspaper and a brew.

It seems that cat cafes aren’t entirely new. A quick search on the ‘net reveals the concept has been up and running in Japan for several years, where they’re apparently very popular with the young and o...

The Traveller

Image

Oh, dear WordPress, please forgive me for neglecting you so but for the last month, I appear to have been mostly living out of a suitcase. I nowhave a brief respite in which I can unpack and do some much-needed laundry!

A few weeks ago, I embarked on my first foreign trip of the year and indeed my first jaunt on the Eurostar, which was a most pleasant way to travel. Photographer extraordinaire Tina K and I were dispatched to Paris to cover a story on the Finnish metal band Nightwish for Prog M...

Limbo Dancing

ImageRight now, I’m in that terribly frustrating period called Limbo. Don’t get me wrong, there are lots of exciting things in the works but red tape prevents me from speaking (or writing) about any of them. It’s like when you read an interview with a rock star or an actor and they give that standard cop-out line: “I’m not allowed to talkabout it!” GAH!Well that’s me now.

This afternoon, I was exchanging some really exciting emails about something that might be happening laterin the year but can I...

No Queen for me then!

At the beginning of this week, the internet was buzzing with rumours that the UK’s Sonisphere Festival had been cancelled. Yesterday, the news was officially confirmed on the festival website. As readers of this blog may be aware, I had been rather looking forward to the festival, not to mention seeing Queen up on a big stage but alas this was clearly not meant to be. No official reasons have been given for the cancellation but the general belief is that it’s to do with poor ticket sales.

Work...
