Shrinking

I've lost 5.5 lbs my first week on Weight Watchers. Yay!

In a big way, I've spent the week having to completely readjust my long-held assumptions about food and what is good versus bad. Me. The person who has half a bookshelf filled with books on weight loss and exercise. The person who followed Oprah and Kirsty and just about everyone else who publicly chronicled their weight loss endeavors. Who subscribed to Health magazine for years and considered herself an authority. I've been doing it

Revival of the Shrink-N-Author

Yesterday I started Weight Watchers. Medifast was a colossal failure, although I will admit the plan helped me get what a "small meal" is supposed to look like. It did not, however, help me lose any weight that I was able to keep off over the true test of time.

I started Weight Watchers entirely reluctantly after my friend Patty started on it. I let her go first, then decided to jump in the pool. I have always believed it's the best plan out there. It's the only thing my doctor recommends.

Dinner Gone Bad

Yesterday, we all but finished our yard project after spending the good part of our day hauling rock. When we were done, my son stood back and said, "Congratulations. We've just built the world's largest cat box."

Though I fear he's right, I'm hoping that's not the case. Once we watered down the pathways, our crushed rock compacted pretty well. Personally, I think the cats are waiting for me to fill all the boxes with dirt.

It's nice to have the project done, though. It seems we've been worki

The Yard Project Goes On

It started like this:

It currently looks like this:

We're still a ways from being done, but we've made significant progress. Most effort and time sucking part of the job is digging out the irrigation and converting the existing sprinklers to drip. (I do not have the patience to water by hand.) We've got two more beds to put in. Next weekend we'll be hauling in the rock pathways.

I've finally bribed the kid to help by offering him a pair of Oakleys when the project is done, if dad and I are satis

Shall We Play A Game?

My brother-in-law started this on Facebook and it's totally fun.

If you're in the middle of reading a book right now, grab it. If not, take the closest one to you at the moment. Turn to page 56. Quote the 4th sentence on the page. What is it?

Here's mine:

I wasn't worried that they were going to get out and either attack me or run away into the desert, because they couldn't get out.

Stephen King, Nightmares and Dreamscapes

What's yours?

(And here's a bonus trivia question: The title of this blog

Blogging and POV

I'm over at Sizzling Pens today talking about the craft of writing. This installment deals with POV, what it's for, and how to use it.

And if you haven't read it yet, make sure to check out Tracy Wolff's FROM FRIEND TO FATHER. I gobbled this story up in one sitting and loved it! It's a great premise about a man whose wife is killed while her best friend is pregnant with their surrogate child.

What a great plot for a story and it's handled masterfully by Tracy!

My First Romances

I just ordered both the musical soundtracks as well as the DVDs for The Music Man, The Sound Of Music, My Fair Lady and West Side Story.

They are my four favorite musicals. My mom dragged me to see them when I was a kid, we had all the albums and though I never realized it at the time, they were my first introduction to the world of romance.

I've mentioned before that I hadn't read a romance novel until I was in my 40s. Heck, I haven't even seen most of the classic chick flicks everyone talks ab
