Side Stories

I took a poll today on my Facebook author page.

I asked if people prefer stories that had romance in them or stories without romance. I also stipulated that 'had romance in them' meant romance as a side story, not as the main plot.

Really, I shouldn't have been surprised at the results, knowing people as I do.

The results were about 26 out of 27 people preferred stories with romance in them to stories without romance. Interesting, huh?

And no. I wasn't the one who said no romance!

This may or may not influence my later writing. You might have noticed a distinct lack of romance in Precisely Terminated, but Monica really didn't have time for such things, and she's not exactly attractive, having starved much of her life. ;) Poor thing.

Cover In the Works

And Noble Imposter's cover is in the works!

Isn't that exciting? I'm always happy when talk of my cover starts. It means I get to see something soon! I'm not artist with pencil, so I must create pictures with words. The cover designer and I were emailing back and forth this afternoon, getting all the details for this cover idea worked out. He's going to start a sketch to give to the artist soon!

Meanwhile.

I'm editing. Surprised?

Didn't think so.

I finished another round today, though, and I printed out the entire manuscript for the next stage of editing.

The read aloud.

Doesn't sound very ominous, but it is. My mother, the wonderful lady that she is, reads aloud every word in the book while I listen, ready to pounce on continuity errors, repeated words, etc. They're much easier to catch when the book is read aloud. It also forces the reader to be more careful and slow in their perusal of the novel.

I also worked on a 'Tip Sheet' for my publisher. I have to fill out one of these for each novel (so this is my second one). It is a document with information like the book's synopsis, my bio, who the book is targeted at, spiritual takeaway value, etc. I wrote that up today as well, so it's been a rather productive day.

My short book description (which will not be appearing on the back of the book, a different one will.):

It is 800 years in the future, and the world is being oppressed by the ruling class. Millions toil under the Nobles' oppressive rule, but because of microchips implanted in their skulls at birth, there can be no uprising. Monica, a slave girl, escaped the chip-implantation process. She was able to infiltrate the Nobles' security in one city and free the inhabitants of Cillineese, but will she be able to do the same in Cantral, where she must pretend to be her dying cousin, and infiltrate the nobles' culture at its very core?

And the Editing Goes On and On

As usual. I am editing.

This will continue for a few more weeks until Noble Imposter is ready to send in to the publisher. I'm on the 5th or 6th round of edits right now, though my current document is labeled 08 (I've explained my system before in another post).

Fortunately, I'm on the last chapter of this round of edits! Hurrah!

How are your projects progressing?

The Contest

I didn't say when the contest would end, in my last post about the contest.

The contest will end on February 4th! That's a little less than a week for you to post your positive review of PT and tell me about it here!

(see post about contest for details)

Thanks so much for your support. :)[image error]

Late Night Editing Sessions

It's 1:00 AM. So is it technically an early morning editing session?

My grandfather is home from the hospital, but still needs constant care-- so much so that we are taking turns staying up at night to assist him. Right now it's my shift. 1- 4AM.

Fortunately, I have editing to keep me company when he's asleep. Monica's perils do tend to keep one awake. I suppose if she can't sleep, neither can I.

Currently, she's sneaking around while everyone except other wall slaves have already gone to bed. Interesting trend I see going on.

We'll see how my writing progresses as the hours do. We might have a steady downturn trend as 4 AM approaches.

Off to make some mischief for Monica![image error]

Editing and Caring for Sickies

I hope everything is going well for you all.

My grandfather is currently in the hospital with a plethora of problems, but he should be coming home this weekend. My sister and dad just left to go visit him.

Meanwhile, I'm at home taking care of my mom and younger sister (YS) who have a nasty form of the flu. Don't worry, I'm taking my vitamins and hope to avoid this bout.

In between orders for green tea and graham crackers, I'm working on editing Noble Imposter. Monica has many mishaps for me to mangle. :)

Er. Un-mangle.

Two of my cousins and an uncle visited us for a little less than a week and just left at 4 this morning, so I've also been busy putting away air mattresses and washing sheets in preparation for the next batch of guests. Two more cousins and a different uncle are hoping to visit this weekend, if a snow storm doesn't keep them home.

Currently, the washing machine is in a spin cycle. I'd better get editing before I have to hang clothes on the line.

And Another Round Complete

Round 3 is done!

Time for round 4 to commence.

This round will be the hardest, because my dad will be reading it. He's the toughest critique-er ever. And I'm not kidding. ;)

So now to start a document called Noble Imposter - 06! (See last blog post for explanation).

Currently I am in Florida! Surprise!

I was editing away when I heard that my brother's wife went was in labor! So my family and I drove down from Tennessee to Florida. We left at 7:20PM, arrived in Florida at around 9:20AM, waited at the hospital until 7:50PM, and then my niece, Madelynn arrived!

And we'll be staying in Florida for a week or so now. :)

Meanwhile, I finished a round of edits today.

I see a lot of y'all are working on projects. I hope they're going well

More Editing

And we're back to just editing!

It's 21 degrees here this morning, so I'm thankful for my electric blanket I can curl up on while I edit.

Remember the knitting project I was working on the other day?Link

He's finished now. :)

Meet Vinnie the rat! I created this Vinnie 2.0 so that someone could have him for their very own!

You can get him here

Vinnie 1.0 is the Vinnie who went on tour with us. He will remain in my possession indefinitely. :)

Do any of you write? If so, how's it going?

Me, I'm back to editing. Chapter 12 of Noble Imposter
