The neighborhood knew what Cody Allen Luther endured on a daily basis for five long years. Everyone except Brandy Mason turned their heads. After all, it was a parent’s right to discipline their child. On Christmas Eve, 1969, Cody finally can’t take the brutal abuse any longer, but not for himself—his mother turns her unreasonable anger on his younger stepsiblings and he makes a life changing decision, killing her instead of allowing her to keep hurting his family.
Only one person has ever understood the why Cody reacted as he did that Christmas Eve of 1969. Brandy Mason will do anything to protect Cody, even stand up against classmates willing to petition the governor to have Cody tried as an adult for murder once he is released from juvenile detention.

Excerpt
Ten year old Cody Luther walked alongside his dad. They had a very important job to do today, finding the perfect Christmas tree. Cody didn’t really understand what was going on, just that his daddy had been real sick lately. It had something to do with his service in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.
“It’s going to be tough on you, son.” Dad stopped near a Douglas fir and examined the branches. “I know this isn’t what you want, but the courts said you had to do this if I… I…” He wiped away a tear from beneath an eye. “If I’m not alive anymore.”

He stood upon the jagged rocky ground, staring at the mountain in the distance. Phillip Wermeer had made it this far and yet he paused, unsure of where he’d go next.
“I’ve done my duty,” he whispered. “Why am I still being tested?”
The ages he’d visited, those he’d “sentenced” to everlasting damnation had always bothered Phillip. The discovery that he wasn’t alone in this neverending quest gave him some comfort, yet he wondered if it would one day end… This blasted land mocked him, brought out old memories he’d rather have remained forever locked in the recesses of his mind.

His duty is to stop two families, the Donovans originally from England and the Camerons a Scottish clan, from wreaking havoc on themselves and others. Throughout time, Phillip steps between these groups to prevent tragedy.            Will he ever stop the animus between these families?

Frost was far too light a description for what lay upon the ground this December morn. Phillip Wermeer cupped his hands in front of his mouth and blew on his cold flesh. This area was near to the Scottish border, close enough to where they could hear the rumblings of battle from King George II’s men pushing back the heathens to the Highlands.
“Get in here!” an angry male voice shouted.
With a sigh, Phillip turned away from the castle and headed toward his duties in the stables. Soon, the lords and ladies attending his earl would be wanting to go on a hunt. They’d be demanding that their horses be saddled after being fed. Slacking off this chill morning wasn’t in the cards.

The Storm

Good morning and welcome to Thursday Thoughts. Today, we’re talking about The Storm the tale of two teenage girls surviving hurricanes many years apart.
Two devastating hurricanes more than a century apart impact Calle and Elizabeth

Pony Dreams on Spotify

Blurb
Following a series of devastating hurricanes in 2004, Calle Jenkins and her family return home to Key West. Finding nothing left but wreckage, her parents decide to start over.  For fourteen year old Calle, starting over means finding friends who evacuated or rode out the storms, starting a new kind of school, and realizing that, for a while at least, life is going to be very different from what she expected. To help her cope, her mother gives her a journal written by a teenaged relative over a century ago.
Elizabeth Berg lives on Galveston Island in 1900, and despite there being some family troubles, doesn’t want to live anywhere else. To her, Galveston is heaven on earth. Until Mr. Isaac Cline warns them that serious changes are at their heels, and with them, the apocalypse. By then, there is no way or nowhere to run. All lines of communication and transportation have been destroyed.
Buildings were shredded and thousands perished as the winds howled and the sea rose.
For Elizabeth and Calle, life moved on.
“The Storm” of September 8, 1900 remains the deadliest hurricane in US history.

Excerpt
September 8, 1900 began as a sultry day on Galveston Island, Texas. The population went about their usual business. Some of these people were immigrants, awaiting transport to other parts of the United States. They were living in a tent city on the beach near the city’s battlements. The bridges leading to the city were busy with people moving back and forth. The train to the mainland and back was running on time. Ships headed for the harbor. No one knew what awaited them, although one man was desperately attempting to get through to Washington DC and the US Weather Bureau and praying they would listen to him. In hindsight, if Isaac Cline’s prediction had been heeded, maybe some of those killed might have survived. Maybe—if they could have gotten off the island before the leading edge of the storm arrived.

The romance of that time lives on, in the memories of those who heard the tales of this great venture…
Mina Weston Anders bursts into her home to tell her great-granny that the telegraph is no more on January 27, 2006. A story unfolds, as Granny talks about an ancestor that Mina resembles…
Abigail Grace Weston's starry-eyed dream is to become the first female Pony Express rider. Ma, Pa, and six overprotective brothers won't even let her near the corral to train mustangs for the mail venture, so she gives up her dream to sneak out and talk to the ponies, teaching them to accept her weight on their backs.

All it would take was a single touch of his hand and he would discover the reason he’d been released from his exile and ordered to report to The Committee.
“No good comes from this bunch of spooks,” he muttered beneath his breath. “They’ve had me as their dancing marionette ever since I refused to go to the Great Beyond.” He shakes his head in disgust. “Nah. They’ve had me at their beck and call since I decided to work the human Ghosties and left the in charge.”

Hello, Ghostie Central. Tripped through the other blogs earlier and couldn’t find anything like what’s going on with the Landry Ghosties. I so hope someone out there has an answer to our current manifestation because we have absolutely no idea how to handle it. First, though, a little history about my particular talent.
My name is Hailey Hatmaker. Don’t crack the usual jokes. I’ve heard every single one and they stink. I adore living in Landry, Georgia. It’s a really old town in the northwest part of the state. Most times, we feel like we’re more connected to Chattanooga than Atlanta, but that’s another story—and another ghost problem to solve in the far future.
