Canoples Investigations Tackles Space Pirates Releases!

Today is the day! Canoples Investigations Tackles Space Pirates is available! This is the first book in the Canoples Investigations series. It's about a group of four teens led by BD Bradford. The BD part is for Bradley Delford, but don't call him Bradley. It's a lame name, in his opinion, and besides he's been BD for eight years now. He doesn't want to hear the word Bradley passing anyone's lips concerning him.
What can  you expect in this action oriented adventure on a space station orbiting Jupiter?
BD Bradford resides on Canoples Station in 2364. He's on his last break before graduating high school. The biggest worry on his mind is scoring enough creds to buy the latest vid-game, and making up with his girlfriend, if she'll stop glaring at him. An announcement at breakfast hatches an idea in his ever-active brain – space pirates might be in the vicinity. Visions of creds tumbling around him after he captures the miscreants war with thoughts of what he did to torque off his girlfriend. He catches a glimpse of the villains outside the promenade's viewport, but he beats feet to safety upon hearing one of his sworn enemies having a drama moment.

The girl? Ah, the girl. Of course there's a girl, and what a girl she is. No wimpy, fainting girl for BD Bradford. Cassie Wills comes through strong. She still has to forgive BD for acting like a complete fool, but he'll have to apologize. She's even thinking grovel after a confrontation in the office Canoples Investigations uses. Will she get an apology? Will BD grovel?
For that, you'll have to read the book.
Now, BD does have a couple of sidekicks, Carl Wills (Cassie's twin) and Terry Ashford. Both are as into diving into trouble as BD is. He can't do a thing without his buds around to give him a helping hand, or assist him into getting into hot steam over his head!
No bet on the antagonists that aren't all that bad, just down on BD. That would be Lisa Tulane and Jake Tigley. This pair enjoys scarfing down everything in sight, a problem for our young hero when his stomach reminds him that he's still a growing teen!

The biggest shock of all is … ah, why spoil the surprise. Come on in and pick up your copy of Canoples Investigations Tackles Space Pirates now. You'll find out all the ins and outs of BD's day without end, and the major surprise that almost throws him off his game.

Here's a little bit about me, and where to find me on the web:

KC Sprayberry started writing with a diary followed by an interest in English. Her first experience with publication came when she placed third in a Freedom's Foundation at Valley Forge contest while in the Air Force, but her dedication to writing came after she had her youngest child, now a teen getting ready to enter his senior year of high school.
Her family lives in Northwest Georgia, where she spends her days creating stories about live in the south, and far beyond. More than a dozen of her short stories have appeared in several magazines. Five anthologies feather other short stories. Her young adult books include: Softly Say Goodbye, The Ghost Catcher, Who Am I?, Family Curse … Times Two, andCanoples Investigations Tackles Space Pirates. More young adult stories are on the near horizon, with even more churning out of her computer daily.

Spotlight: Kristal McKerrington

Hello All Readers,

I want to thank KC Sprayberry  for having me on here today with my co-author Joe E Legend. My co-author is a former WWE/TNA superstar, film star and now full time author. He's about to release a whole range of books on the world.

Here is a taster of what we are releasing next week with Solstice Publishing. The book is called “Norse Gods: The Lovers War.” This sees me return to the Paranormal romance world for the first time in quite some time.

“Loki wasn't ready for a new mate. Jennifer's here to take his son. What will happen when the two collide? Is she ready to fall in love with a Norse God?”

We have another great book coming out in the next two weeks with Solstice Publishing. This book is more what is expected of Joe. He's taking the lead and helping to put out a wrestling romance which is very close to how wrestling is actually handled in real life. What better person to take lead on this great book?

“Strong, muscled chiselled good looks and a gentlemen to boot. That was what Anna's friends thought she'd caught herself. Instead she caught herself a fighter, a wrestler and she knew what that meant.”

These two great books will be in eBook and Print. These are designed to tease your senses and make you water at the mouth. The hard hitting plots help me to live up to my reputation. These are the skills I'm passing onto Joe.

Currently I have Calling You Home out with Solstice Publishing. I have just finished the second part to May and Jason's story and I hope to be getting it to the publisher very soon. I've been so honoured to be a part of the special Celebrity Imprint she opened for us.

Jason finds out, Mary, the woman he let go all those years ago has returned. Now they have a second chance at the future they have always dreamed of, but she carried a secret away when she left. Now that she’s back her secrets have come home to roost. How will Jason react when he finds out what she has been hiding?

Get your copy now from Amazon for $1.24! What a bargain right?
Amazon

Before we get out of here, we are proud to present our first book with Firefly & Wisp Publishing. Its a hot book which has tongues wagging from one end of the States to the other. This is a book which has seen many dancers gossiping and wrestlers just a like. This is a hard hitting story which will have you desperate for me.

What is this book called?

Well its none other than Marie's World.

“A simple job, unwanted love triangle. There is no escape for this twin.”
This book is due out really soon, we hope the 4th of July. We will announce its release on Twitter the moment its out.

Well thank you Kathi for letting us taking over your wonderful page and we hope to talk again soon. Before we completely close out this awesome blog, we hope to drop you the links for the fan pages where you can talk directly to me and Joe.  Kristal FacebookJoe FacebookJoe TwitterKristal Twitter

Review: Embracing the Flames by Candace Knoebel

Welcome and a good Friday to you. Today, Out of Control Characters hosts Candace Knoebel with her book, Embracing the Flames. You can get this great book for only .99 right now!

Candace Knoebel is the award-winning author of Born in Flames-a young adult fantasy trilogy. Published by 48fourteen in 2012, Born in Flames went on to win Turning the Pages Book of the Year award in February of 2013.
Candace Knoebel dreamed of being a dancer ever since she could remember. With a love of all things art, she saw herself moving to New York and pursuing her passion as an artist. But all that changed on October 10th, 2002 when she met the love of her life. Her dreams diverged and after marrying her high school sweetheart and having two beautiful children, she realized she missed her creative side. Through lunch breaks and late nights after putting her kids to bed, she built a world where she could escape the ever-pressing days of an eight to five Purgatory. Since then, she crawled out of Purgatory and has devoted her time to writing and sometimes heelying. BlogFacebookTwitterGoodreads

Blurb:

The Stone of Immortality has always been kept under the watch of the Draconta. That is, until the betrayal of a Fate. Now everything is about to change.
Aurora Megalos accepted her destiny without blinking-even if it meant succumbing to her dragon side. Deemed the Progeny, she left the ordinary life she knew and has done everything in her power to learn the ways of her new realm and what it means to be part dragon. But when her mentor, Astral, suddenly disappears, she is forced to take the reins.
With war on the brink, she sets out on an epic journey to not only find her mentor, but to stop her Arch Enemy, Zordon, from obtaining the Stone of Immortality. But what she discovers about him along the way is far worse than she could’ve ever imagined. She will be tested and pushed to the limit. Lives will be lost, love will be questioned, and a battle will begin.

Book 1 Blurb:

Red mirrored scales race up my arms as the haze of pain blurs my vision. My bones crack, breaking to realign. I scream. It is then that the realization of my unavoidable fate sinks in; I am of a dying race. I am dragon.
Aurora Megalos, orphaned and teetering on the edge of adulthood, thought finding her past would curb the sting of being an outcast. Having no memories of the time before she awoke on her foster mother’s doorstep, she yearns for the emptiness inside her to be filled. With her fellow orphaned best friend, Fenn, by her side, she has nothing to lose and everything to gain. But something powerful stirred within her that she couldn’t explain. Something wanted out.
In the dark of night, a crazed Seer, dubbed Mr.Creepy, erases everything she’s ever known with an impending prophecy. She now faces two paths. Return to her true home to protect a dying race against a growing evil, or stay hidden in the safety of our realm with a shot at a true love. With a vengeful Arch Enemy stopping at nothing to see her dead, she’s running out of time; a decision must be made. What would you choose?

Review:

Aurora Jay Megalos is a mage searching for a title, the reason for her existence. She moves into a realm where magic and warfare govern those who live there, and makes many discoveries on her journey. There are others who assist her, but it is up to her to find the reason she came to be, and why she is connected to a particular practitioner of the dark arts.
Embracing the Flames has a slow, almost boring start, but picks up speed soon. The reader soon finds themselves lost in the story of Aurora, a young woman training to become a mage. This a quest fantasy, one of a journey both physical and internal, and Candace Knoebel plots it well. At times, it seems to move almost too fast, but the elements all come together at the pivotal point. I recommend this story to all who enjoy a good quest tale. Purchase Links:AmazonBarnes & NobleKobo48Fourteen

The Ghost Catcher Blog Event

A new release for today! Before it goes live on Amazon, here are a few tidbits about The Ghost Catcher!

Blurb:

A gift to know when people are in trouble of the ghostly type puts Hailey Hatmaker in the middle of a major problem – one that winds up getting her into more hot water than she can handle. In true Hailey Hatmaker fashion, she dives into what turns out to be a battle with Limbo, her number one nemesis. Can Hailey rescue two friends before it's too late? Or is she forever condemned to losing to Limbo?

Excerpt: No adult in Landry, Georgia would ever admit a teen can do something right. Not a one, for then they would have to 'fess up to the teens being able to make their own decisions. The people in charge just plain ignored any good thing teens did. Then I saw a problem, one I couldn't say a word about. All I could do is stand to one side and watch as disaster loomed.

I was the last person with Maren Dougless and Zac Morton Friday afternoon at the high school. What I saw of their auras – green with a black outer edge – scared me right down to my toes. As if that wasn't bad enough, since black represented death, and green meant vibrant life, in addition the center of those auras eachhad a reddish eye in the center with sickly yellow streaks arcing throughout it.

That was more than enough to make any person run for the hills, but I'm Hailey Hatmaker, Ghost Catcher extraordinaire. After many, many years of catching ghosts, I didn't want two good friends to suffer that fate, but I had a big problem.   Bio: I am happily married to a man I met while in the Air Force. We will soon celebrate 20 years of marriage. Our teen, the youngest of 8, keeps us on our toes with his band activities. Writing is something I've done since I was very young. At first, it was in a diary and then I poured all my energies into English compositions, earning praise from my Advanced Composition teacher in high school for an extremely visual project. While in the Air Force, I placed second in the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge's annual contest and from then on, was hooked. However, the reality of a military career and raising children forced me to put off attempting publication until my husband and I moved to Georgia. It was after the birth of our now teen that I began taking courses through The Institute of Children's Literature, Long Ridge Writer's Group, and Writers Digest in an effort to make my life's dream come true. We live in Northwest Georgia, in a small town, where I write Romance, Westerns, Young Adult, and Middle Grade stories, both short and book length. More than a dozen of my short stories have appeared in magazines such as Listen Magazine, Brio, and The Pink Chameleon website. I also have two short stories in anthologies, Passionate Hearts Anthology and Mystery Times Ten. My westerns have garnered interest by avid readers and appear on The Western Online and Frontier Tales. My work appears under the pen names of KC Sprayberry and Kathi Sprayberry. Softly Say Goodbye, a young adult novel, was my NaNoWriMo winning project for 2010. This story was inspired by a quote from a song and hearing of an auto wreck involving teens and drinking.  Here's where you can find me on the web!FacebookTwitterWebsiteGoodreadsAmazon Author PageGoogle +PinterestAuthorgraph   Be sure to check out Authorgraph after The Ghost Catcher releases later today. Take a Stand Against Domestic Violence

Today, we're hosting Mary H. Collins, one of my fellow Solstice Publishing Authors. Mary's book, Nadia's House, will release in September. She's here today to talk about the story behind the story.

Let’s Take a Stand to End Domestic Violence

In 1850, Tennessee became the first state in the United States to explicitly outlaw wife beating.

In 1959, one hundred and nine years later, Eliza Mae Mowery was kicked and stomped to death by her husband in a little place called Tin Can Holler in Athens Tennessee. At the time, Rozetta Mowery (Eliza’s daughter and author of the book, Tragedy in Tin Can Holler) was only 7 years old. She and her siblings were separated and sent to foster homes. Years later, after being in an abusive marriage herself, Rozetta gave up her job and her beautiful home to return to Tennessee to find out how her mother died. While researching, she found FBI records of the murder. Searching deeper, she found that her paternal grandmother, Grace Simms, was a serial killer. Grace lured men to her Meigs County home in Tennessee, taken their money then killed them.Tragedy in Tin Can Holler video Rozetta Mowrey on Goodreads As a young child, I visited my grandparents who lived probably no more than a half mile from Tin Can Holler. I remember walking to church there with my grandmother many times. People who lived in Tin Can Holler were poor and everyone knew everyone else. In the 1970’s they built housing projects there.  Most domestic violence is caused by learning and reinforcement rather than by biology or genetics.Domestic violence behaviors are learned through observation. Studies have found that nearly one half of abusive men grew up in homes where their father or step father was an abuser.Though, in 92% of the domestic abuse cases, assailants reported use of alcohol or other drugs on the day of the assault, there is no real research to indicate that alcoholism or drug abuse causes domestic violence.     Growing up in a household where her father abused her mother, Sharlyn expected it from Anthony. She accepted it as love. When he’d stay out all night, she welcomed him back with open arms. When he beat her, she thought she deserved it. She’d heard rumors of his cheating, but knew he loved only her. When he leaves her to fend for herself, she loses more than just the abusive man. He’d cleaned out her checking account and maxed her credit card, leaving her not only alone, but broke as well. This story holds a lesson for the women out there who mistake abuse for love. Read the first chapter of Nadia's House and Mary's other books Nadia’s House, soon to be released, is the first in a series of novels portraying domestic violence. My stories are fictional, but hopefully they will help women break the cycle of spousal abuse. All royalties from the series will be donated to The Eliza Mae Mowery Domestic Violence Foundation in Athens, Tennessee.   I was born in Athens, TN. but spent most of my childhood in Detroit, MI. I grew up in a large family of 8 children...6 girls and 2 boys. When I was 13, my father moved us back to Tennessee and I attended Etowah High School. After a failed marriage, I enrolled in beauty school, got my diploma and worked as a hairdresser until 1991. At that time, I made a career change. I sold my equipment, closed up shop and entered the world of Glamor Photography. I’m now employed part-time with Portraits International. I write contemporary romance and have 8 novels published at this time. You can find my books at amazon.com, Barnes&noble.com, solsticepublishing.com or most on-line book stores.LinkedInFacebookTwitterWebsiteBlog

Character Interview and Review: The Star by Clemy Warner Thompson

Good Saturday morning. We're all getting ready for the holiday coming up here in the U.S. Before we do, why not check out this wonderful novel. It's the perfect thing to curl up with during these oh-so-scorching days! I had the privilege of reading Clemy Warner Thompson's The Star, and it is a delight from beginning to end.

About Clemy Warner Thompson:

I was born in England in the West Midlands in 1991 where I am still currently living, growing up alongside one younger and three older brothers.
Books and writing was an interest that I began to develop from the first years of secondary school, and on my thirteenth birthday, I began to plan and design the idea to write a fantasy novel. I finished secondary school with high GCSE’s and then went on into further education to study English and all aspects of art and design. After six years of writing, planning and overall editing of the book, it was successfully completed, containing over 82,000 words, and self-published in the first week of 2011.
With high expectations in myself, I immediately began to write a second novel in the series, while keeping my art and design a part of the process. The achievement of completing the first novel ‘Purest Light,’ allowed the ideas of the second to flow much easier and it was completed by early 2012. As I was writing the third and final book, New Beginnings, at the same time, the series was finished by its publication in 2013.
Writing is now a part of my every day and I have started on my newest project, The Star, which is also planned to be the first of three. Only time will tell.

Book Blurb:

Abbii had been afraid of the dark for four long years. She hated the eerie silence that filled the night.
She would often try to forget by closing her eyes at night, but she would always be met by dreams of Shadows that would attack her, dragging her into the Darkness. Most nights, she would simply lie there with her bedding wrapped tightly around her, staring at the light coming in through her window, hoping that she would drift off into a dreamless sleep.
Ever since that day four years ago, the dark had frightened her; she had thought it would be a curse throughout the whole of her life, but something changed when she met him.
The dark seemed to lose its power and the moon’s light brightened.
Her dreams didn’t stop; nightmares still stole her sleep, but there was always a figure of Light that would save her and allow her to wake.
He said the same thing every night in her dreams. Keep fighting, Abbii.
She thought that he was part of her imagination, someone that she had created to save her, until she met him and was drawn into his bright hazel eyes.
His name was Nate. Smashwords e-bookLulu paperback
Today, we're interviewing Abbii, the main character in this terrific novel:

1.      Introduce yourself to our readers. Where do you fit into the story? What should we know about you?
Abbii- Well, I am the story really. Everything seems to be about me. Everywhere I go, the Shadows are there… I can’t seem to get away from them. My powers don’t help either, they keep growing. I didn’t even know I had powers!
Clemy- You have power for a reason. Now introduce yourself.
Abbii- *Rolls eyes* I guess you’re right. Well, I’m 18, used to live with my mum before she took me to the Everglades. Wonder if she knew about all the magic there…
Clemy- Don’t spoil the story!
Abbii- Doubt it! She only thought about herself in the end!
Clemy- I think that’s enough. I’ll introduce you. Abbii was taken to the Everglades College for the ‘Gifted’. She’s been there for four years now, but she’s kept herself to herself. Though, she did meet Jake. He’s quite sweet, always making her laugh.
Abbii- Shut up! *Cheeks flush* You wouldn’t like it if I was talking about you like that!
Clemy- And then there’s Nate. He makes her laugh even more *Winks*

2.      What do you think about the author? Tell us everything. We want to know.
Abbii- She’s always sticking her nose in my business, trying to make everything a happy ending. When will she realise that my life isn’t happy.
Clemy *sneaks in*- Jake and Nate seem to make you smile.
Abbii- See what I mean? She just can’t help herself… *Drops her gaze slightly* If only Jake was here…
3.      What are your feelings about this story?
Abbii - Sometimes it’s hard *she drops her gaze* sometimes things happen that I can’t change…
Clemy- your friends are always there though.
Abbii- I guess you’re right, but I wish they were all here. Some of them didn’t deserve what happened to them…
Clemy- No, but they’ve never left you. In the end, things will turn out the way you want them to. You just have to let the opportunities it, like me. *Large grin*
Abbii- *Rolls her eyes* You remind me so much of Max!
Clemy- His ego is bigger!
Abbii- You sure?

4.      How do you feel about being a character in this book?
Abbii- it’s ‘interesting’, though it’s a shame that the ‘author’ had to put stupid people in like Colleen and her sidekicks! They don’t help at all!
Clemy- They might help more than you realise. No character is for nothing *winks*
Abbii- You act like you made them the way they are…
Clemy- Well…
Abbii- * a subtle glow builds across her palm* You didn’t??
5.      What do you see in your future? (No spoilers please!)
Abbii- *Lowers her voice to a whisper* don’t tell the ‘author’ but I’m hoping that she gives us a happy ending. I want to find those that I’ve lost. I have to…
Clemy- Ooooh I was looking forward to this question! I see a very bright horizon.

6.      Say a movie producer comes knocking. What actor/actress would you want to play you and why?
Abbii- I’m not bothered, of course they’d have to have a bit of fight in them—Here's my review:

Abbii is stuck in a school, abandoned not only by her father, but also by her mother for the last four years. The Everglades College for the Gifted is a dumping ground for parents that can't cope. Or is it?

Clemy Warner-Thompson weaves a tale of magic, of a young woman gifted with the ability to change reality, well. The reader is drawn in by Abbii's depth of despair, and through her growth to one who accepts what must be.Although slow to start, with details that don't seem important at the time, The Star quickly picks up speed. A quest of discovery turns into a fight for survival. In the end, Abbii has more decisions to make, and it's clear this is only the beginning of a story yet to be told. Those who love magical quests, tales of journey and discovery, and a good understand of how important the elements are will be drawn into this story.

I can't wait for the next chapter of this story and recommend it for all fantasy lovers.

Cover Reveal: Ascending the Veil by Venessa Kimball

Another day, another new cover. I'm very proud to be part of this one, as I've read Venessa Kimball's first two books in this series.

Venessa Kimball is currently writing the third book in her Mature Young Adult/New Adult Paranormal Science Fiction series, Piercing the Fold. Book 1 was released July 2, 2012. Book 2, Surfacing the Rim, released March 14, 2013. Ascending the Veil: Book 3 will release Mid-September 2013. And the final book in the Piercing the Fold series, Book 4 (Title TBD) will release Early 2014.
As for the future, Venessa has two projects unrelated to the Piercing the Fold series in the works. Both projects will highlight Venessa's versatility as a writer with her branching out from the Paranormal/Science Fiction genre of her current series. When Venessa is not writing, she is keeping active with her husband and three children, chaueffering said children to extracurricular activities, indulging in her love for running 5ks, and devouring the latest great reads.    WebsiteAuthor ShopBlogFacebookGoodreadsPinterestTwitter Book Blurb:
In Surfacing the Rim: Piercing the Fold, Book 2, an intersection between our galaxy and the Andromeda galaxy has been spurred at the hands of an enemy fellowship. With orders from its leader, Sondian guardian and Sam Crest opens a wormhole that traces through a black hole through the Andromeda galaxy and into another universe beyond ours.
What Jesca and the other Dobrian guardians do not realize is that the wormhole has pierced a barrier, a veil, that has successfully kept the beings of that universe from invading our world. Beings that have been considered mythical and fantastical since the beginning of time. Beings that symbolize the purest of evil and the purest of good. Beings that have been the product of the “illusions in reality” Jesca and the rest of the guardians have been tracking, dodging, and protecting humanity from for the past year.
To worsen the situation, Sam Crest attempts to take Jesca with him into the wormhole, but two of the most important men in Jesca’s life, Ezra Kahn and Nate Sera keep her from succumbing to it by sacrificing themselves. Their sacrifice protects her physically, but not mentally. Jesca is left broken in the arms of a man that she is beginning to fall for, Xander Crest; adopted son of Sam Crest.
Though Ezra’s and Nate’s sacrifice was noble, it was not enough to stop the global invasion and apocalyptical evolution the enemy fellowship intends to draw to our world. The fate of our world is bleak unless Jesca and the her fellowship of guardians can find a way for the human race to adapt, evolve, and survive amidst the invasion, as well as bring Nate and Ezra back from beyond the veil.
Ascending the Veil: Piercing the Fold, Book 3 takes you beyond our world and universe and back through the eyes of the characters in this series. Tragedies and blessings involving Jesca, Ezra, Nate, and Xander will be revealed, our favorite guardians of the Dobrian and Sondian fellowships will forge their paths in this universe and in another for the salvation of our world and each other, and heart-wrenching events will unfold when Jesca ascends the veil.
Author's Note:
The Piercing the Fold series is intended for Mature Young Adult and Adult readers due to the the paranormal and unorthodox scientific concepts addressed throughout. Kc Sprayberry started writing young, with a diary followed by an interest in English. Her first experience with publication came when she placed third in a Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge contest while in the Air Force, but her dedication to writing came after she had her youngest child, now a teen getting ready to enter his senior year of high school. Her family lives in Northwest Georgia where she spends her days creating stories about life in the south, and far beyond. More than a dozen of her short stories have appeared in several magazines. Five anthologies feature other short stories, and her Young Adult novel Softly Say Goodbye, released in 2012.WebsiteFacebookTwitterAmazon Author PageSoftly Say Goodbye PaperbackSoftly Say Goodbye Kindle      Canoples Investigations the series is the one thing I promised myself would one day be published. BD Bradford and his crew hold a special place in my stable of characters. It is because of this very talented group that I began writing again after 9/11. Like millions of Americans, I heard about the first plane crashing into 1WTC at 900 AM on that day. The deejay of a local radio station, Luther Massingill, commented about how early in his radio broadcasting career that he had to announce the aircraft crashing into the Empire State Building on July 28, 1945. His calm voice put me at ease, although I did turn off my radio and turn on my television to see if CNN had anything to report. Only minutes, maybe fifteen, I discovered what was really happening when I along with many Americans witnessed the crash into 2 WTC. We all know the rest of the story of that horrific day, when it seemed the shocks would never stop coming. My youngest child was in kindergarten then. In August of this year, enters his senior year of high school. Watching this child accept how his world was no longer as safe as he had always believed it was, I almost buckled under the weight of showing him how to remain the same inquisitive, energetic, adventure loving boy I loved. One week after terror visited our shores, still struggling to prove to my son that things would get better, but unable to write, BD Bradford, Carl and Cassie Wills, and Terry Ashley burst into my head. The location and story they told me evolved over the last twelve years, until Canoples Investigations Tackles Space Pirates became a reality. I have to admit to the world now what my husband and son always knew. BD Bradford is mostly based on my son's joie de vivre, his tendency to dive head first into whatever interests him, his eagerness to discover what is just around the corner, and the way he cares about those he loves. Instead of showing my child how to get back that feeling of safety, this child of mine gave me back the desire to write, by demonstrating to me how to believe world events couldn't keep him from living his life fully.

Skunk Ape Semester by Mike Robinson

Good morning! We're doing something very different today on Out of Control characters. Our guest is fellow Solstice Publishing author Mike Robinson, and his book Skunk Ape Semester. In addition to an excerpt, bits of some of the awesome reviews, and my review of this book, we're going to challenge you to figure out a strange creature like the characters in this book do on their unusual summer trip of exploration. No prizes, except learning something new. Here's the picture of our creature:

Here are the clues to figure out what this is, and if it's real or a figment of someone's imagination.
1.      It's inedible, but is often brought up by fishermen trawling for crabs, lobsters, and other edible sea creatures.
2.      It can be found off the coasts of New Zealand and Australia.
3.      It's in danger of becoming extinct, because fishermen destroy this creature instead of throwing it back.
4.      This strange, mournful looking creature has often been likened to the cartoon character Ziggy.
5.      This may be the ugliest fish in the ocean. It looks like a mass of gelatin with wide lips and a large bulbous nose between two very tiny eyes and a constant expression of distaste. If you looked like that you would be perpetually scowling, too.
That should be enough clues to get you started on your internet scavenger hunt. Now, if you still can't figure out what this creature is, take a gander at this:

Warning! This is only part of the creature's name. You have to figure out the rest.
Now, let's meet the genius behind this Fortean book:

An official armchair Fortean since receiving Karl Shuker's The Unexplained at thirteen, though fascinated with the material since penning Aliens In My Backyard! at age seven, Mike has spent much of his literary career in the murky overlap between reality and....whatever else we may want to call that curious realm the presence of which we sense but seldom touch. Dreams? Dimension X? Whichever. Mike's short fiction has been featured in Storyteller, Aoife's Kiss, Northwoods Anthology, Wondrous Web Worlds, All Possible Worlds, ClonePod.org, Wash: The Journal of Otis College of Art & Design, and more. He is on the advisory board of The Greater Los Angeles Writers Society and is managing editor of Literary Landscapes, the society's publication.    It's time to whet your whistle. Here's a synopsis of Skunk Ape Semester:Zoology professor Jeremy Fishleder is an avid Bigfoot researcher, his passion sparked long ago by an encounter with Florida’s “skunk ape” during his childhood. He teaches a special interest class on the study of these weird entities, called cryptozoology, until the university cancels it. Looking to make a change in his life, he goes on sabbatical and plans a trip around the country to visit areas of strange repute and meet other people who study the various phenomena, using a van stocked with files and maps supplied to him by a fellow paranormal investigator. Three students decide to join him, and together the four of them travel from place to place, and story to story, meeting characters both level headed and eccentric and, in seeking out accounts of Bigfoot, Chupacabras, UFOs, goblins and lake monsters, they discover more about themselves and one another. As the stories come together, they are drawn face to face with the mysterious. We just had to share what some of Mike's reviewers think about this fascinating book:"One of the best books I've read this past decade." ------ Leslie Ann Moore, award-winning author of Griffin's Daughter"I loved this book! Are you interested in the weird and unexplained? SKUNK APE SEMESTER by Mike Robinson is a page-turning road trip--a journey of the mind, heart, and spirit. I was captivated from the first page, and I learned a lot. Most of the stories in this novel (other than Bigfoot) I'd never heard of before. You'll like the characters and feel like you took this fascinating journey with them." ------ Syrie James, international bestselling author of The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen andDracula, My Love“‘On the Road’ meets ‘The X-Files’!”------ Marla Miller, author and columnist"A love song to Fortean Americana....a truly unique book." ----- Richard Freeman, author / researcher

Here's my review of this great book:
Skunk Ape Semester by: Mike Robinson
ISBN: 978-1475230093

Jeremy Fishleder sees a six-foot tall creature with silver gray, extremely long fur and a smell bad enough to bring tears to his eyes as a child. This sighting ignites a lifelong passion in cryptozoology. When the university where he teaches decides his class is no longer science, he takes a sabbatical and begins a journey that will change his view on life in general.Mike Robinson pens a compelling tale that draws the reader into the world of Forteans, people who search for Bigfoot, the Skunk Ape, or Chupacabra among many other creatures. The story isn't just about finding these creatures, but also finding one's self. I found myself drawn into the tale, at times laughing, or gasping with horror, or even crying as Robinson examined human frailty along with many theories of what these creatures are and why they are among us.

Skunk Ape Semester is one of those books where I moved outside my comfort zone, and I'm glad I did. This isn't a story for the faint of heart, and all of those with a good deal of disbelief will cast it aside, but if you have a yearning for the mythic fabled and adventure, you'll love this story.I do hope you enjoyed reading all about Skunk Ape semester. Go on out into the wild and wonderful internet. Figure out what our creature of the day is, and come on back to tell us what you learned!
