The Game
It was exciting and agonizing and really cold and I hate Buchholz and Punto, though Punto made it better at the end and it was tiring and aggravating and thrilling and and and and…
I want to go again.
A longer write-up…whenever. I’m too tired now to do it right.
This’ll do for now.

Broadened
Lately, I’ve been trying to broaden my musical tastes. For a long time, I haven’t done much to expose myself to new stuff. I’ve just floated on music I’ve been listening to for years now.
But I’ve gone on a downloading (legally!) spree. I’ve downloaded some of the raps that the kids today listen to and some old school funk. I’ve downloaded some pop and stuff from as recent as ten years ago.
I can’t seem to break into into the Millenium though. I don’t even really know where to start really. I n...

Game’s Eve
For the first time, tomorrow, I’m going to a Red Sox game.
I’m excited. Really excited. I fell like this is what I’ve been preparing for all this time. This experience.
I’ve read about the history of baseball. I’ve watched documentaries and news clips and autobiographies and biographies and articles. I’ve watched it live and taped and listened to it on the radio. I’ve met (briefly) old players and walked along the infield and even sat in the dugout at Fenway.
And now, just now, I’m going to go t...

The Phantasms of Walter Pickman
Given my inability to write pulp (see here), I’ve decided to go in a slightly different direction.
A week or two after my initial post about doing the e-zine thing, I got an email from a guy who writes under the name Walter Pickman. And by writes, I mean just that. He’s not published and, as far as I know, I’m the only one that’s seen any of his stories. There’s something…off about his stuff. It’s violent and bloody and doesn’t make a lot of sense most of the time. Luckily that fits the genre...

Oops, I Forgot I Had a Blog
I’ve just realized that I’m coming dangerously close to failing at least one of my New Year resolutions. I promised that I’d update this thing at least ten times a month, specifically so that ya’ll would get a regular series of updates during the month.
And I’ve completely ruined that by not updating since the 19th and only five times total for April. I’m depriving you all of informative and entertaining posts! How will you know what’s constantly running through my head on a day to day basis?...

The Rejuvenation
Lately, I haven’t been feeling that excited about baseball lately. Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Dylan, you’re just depressed after that 18-3 loss to the Rangers. And then the subsequent loss after that. And the loss that preceded that one.” To which I say, “Yeah.”
But that’s not the entire reason. I can’t really watch the games, since I don’t have a TV and I’m usually working when the games are on. So I have to listen to the radio. It’s a good way to enjoy the game, if that’s your only o...

Bobbled
“A .300 hitter, that rarest of breeds these days, goes through life with the certainty that he will fail at his job seven out of ten times.”
-Ted Williams
As you may be aware, I’ve been immersing myself in baseball in an attempt to fit in more into Boston culture. I’ve read about the successes and failures of teams throughout the decades. I’ve watched clips of Bill Buckner’s error and read about Merkle’s Boner (that’s a term that has not aged well). A friend of mine has warned me about followin...

Phantasms of Horror
After weeks of trying, I'm finally going to hang up the pulp writer's hat. I don't have the speed or style necessary to pull it off. Since I don't have what it takes, I obviously need to step aside and let someone else do the writing for this one.
Now, I don't want to say too much at the moment, but I will say that the project is moving forward.
I even have a title for my e-reader pulp magazine. Are you ready for it? I hope you are, because you already read it in the title for this blog entry. ...

The Vernacular of Sports
In advance, I would like to apologize for the amount of profanity that you're about to encounter. It was unavoidable.
When watching baseball, especially when watching a Red Sox game, it becomes clear that a certain language is adopted that one might otherwise not use in a social situation. Certain words become commonplace and are sprinkled throughout a conversation with an exuberance that is not seen outside of conversations with sailors or surly gentleman in more unrefined watering holes.
For ...

Game On
Tomorrow is the first Red Sox game of the season.
I'm excited. It's time to find out if all my hardwork has paid off. I've managed to cram over a hundred years of baseball history into my head in less than three months. I know about the old stars and the changes in the rules and where we are now. Granted, there are still a lot of gaps, but I think I'm ready.
The real question is whether the Red Sox are. With a complete change in management and with a reorganized line-up in the bullpen...
