Another giveaway? Yes, please!

thankyouFirst of all, I want to say thank you soo much for spreading the word about Pieces of Me. It’s receiving some pretty significant buzz and that’s all due to my readers… you! Thank you! Thank you!

So, right. I’m sure you all came to the blog to see who won my Pieces of Me giveaway right? Well, unfortunately all the winners haven’t confirmed yet! And I gave them  72 hours to respond before I choose another winner. So, check your email and respond! As soon as everyone is confirmed I will post the winners! Woot woot woot! If you missed out on the giveaway, no fear! There will be more. I love to give away stuff. And so do most of my friends. Which brings me to the rest of my post.

ANOTHER GIVEAWAY, WHAT?!

You got it! Today’s giveaway comes from Anne Riley author of Shadows of the Hidden. I had the honor of reading Shadows back when it was titled something else and really got into the characters. There was a certain twist that I did not see coming and left me slack-jawed when I realized what was going on. I know it’s seen some revisions since I’ve read it, so I can’t wait to read it again and find out what I missed! You should definitely check it out!

As one of the reviewers said on Amazon, “Shadows of the Hidden sneaks up on you… in a good way.” And because Anne is sooo awesome, she’s invited you to read an excerpt from her novel and she’s having a giveaway to boot. She’s giving away not one, but TWO copies of Shadows of the Hidden and you don’t have to go anywhere to enter, you can just do it right here on this post… at the bottom. Good luck!

Shadows front cover~small

Blurb from Shadows of the Hidden:

Natalie Watson doesn’t believe her parents are dead, even though they disappeared five years ago. Discovering the truth about their fate is one of the only things that get her out of bed in the morning. But after moving from her home in Georgia to her aunt’s boarding school in Maine, solving the mystery of her parents’ whereabouts is just one of several challenges she must face. When she’s not fending off attacks from the popular kids, she puzzles over the rumors about a strange boy in her math class–one with fiery red hair who rarely speaks.

Despite suspicions that he murdered his sister a year earlier, Natalie finds it impossible to stay away from Liam Abernathy–especially when he confesses to knowing something about her parents. Soon she’s following him into the forest, where things happen she doesn’t understand…things that shouldn’t be possible.

Natalie soon realizes her connection to Liam is deeper than she ever imagined, and not everyone she counts as a friend can be trusted. When she finds herself at the center of a centuries-old quest for immortality, she must work with Liam to stay alive–even if it means facing a truth about herself and her family that will not only shake her perception of herself, but of the entire world around her.

Excerpt from Shadows of the Hidden:

He pulls out the chair across from me with a loud scrape and plops down in it. I scowl at him, but he pretends not to notice.

“I think we need to talk.”

“Oh, no you don’t,” I say. “The last time you and I ‘talked’ about something, I ended up getting dragged into the woods and watching you—” I drop my voice to a whisper—“disappear.”

“That’s what I want to talk to you about.”

“Well, I don’t feel like discussing it right now.” I open my book and block his face with it.

“Look,” he says, snatching the book out of my hands. “I know you’re upset, but you’ve got to trust me about this. I told you it would be hard to believe. I did warn you.”

I shake my head, pointing at him in a very Aunt Tessa kind of way. “That’s true, but I didn’t think—I mean, you didn’t tell me—”

“Natalie, listen to me very carefully.”

I meet his gaze, and something in his eyes keeps me from trying to leave again. They’re burning a fiery shade of green, as if the intensity he’s feeling inside is shining through.

“I know it probably looked like what happened in the forest was something demonic, or something evil. Or perhaps you’ve convinced yourself that it was all a trick.”

I fidget at the truth in his words.

“I can assure you that what you saw was real. However, you would be right if you thought I was doing something…well, supernatural.”

A chill blows through my bones like a gust of wind. “Supernatural?”

“Yes. What you saw in the woods was only the beginning.”

What folks are saying about Shadows of the Hidden:

Medeia Sharif, author of Bestest. Ramadan. Ever.: “This novel kept me on the edge of my seat. It was quite suspenseful with a unique historical twist to the paranormal. With great characters and non-stop action, it kept me hooked until the very last page.”

Krissi Dallas, author of the Phantom Island series: “A riveting mystery filled with realistic teenage drama, suspenseful twists, and an extraordinary quest for the truth… Anne Riley is a refreshing storyteller with the ability to keep me desperately turning those pages for more adventure!”

Where to purchase Shadows of the Hidden:

Amazon – Paperback – 12.99

Amazon – Kindle – 4.99

Barnes and Noble – Paperback -12.99

Barnes and Noble – Nook Book – 4.99

About the Author:

Anne Riley 9

Anne Riley is an author of young adult fiction disguised as a high school Spanish teacher. She lives in Birmingham, Alabama with her husband and their daughter.

After graduating from the University of Alabama with a double major in advertising and Spanish, Anne wrote several complete manuscripts, none of which will ever see the light of day. In fact, she likes to pretend they never existed in the first place, although this isn’t really fair as those manuscripts helped her find her voice as an author.

Anne has written two novels she’s willing to share with the world, and a third is coming soon. She plans to write until she runs out of stories to tell, which, she admits, isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.

Other than writing, Anne enjoys reading, painting, watching interior design shows, pretending to cook, and drinking coffee until she starts to twitch. Her literary inspirations are as varied as her hobbies and include J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins, C.S. Lewis, Jane Austen, Kate Morton, and Alexandre Dumas.

Pieces of Me, Chapter One

Pieces of Me, Chapter One

Tis true! I’m sharing chapter one of Pieces of Me! This is the print copy version, so those of you on Kindle will see what you are missing. Enjoy!

Back Cover:

Forget everything you know. Forget your name. Forget any memory of your parents. Forget your own face in the mirror. Then, and only then, can you understand my world. My name is Braidan, and I’m seventeen years old. I wake every day with no memory of what happened yesterday. No recollection of who I am. Only a series of sticky notes hint at the life I supposedly lead. But no matter how hard I try, I can’t dismiss the thought that this isn’t my life or my true identity. Notes plastered all over my room and school books tell me to search for answers. But how can I learn the truth when I’ll forget everything the moment my mind drifts to sleep?

Ian, the new boy at school claims he has the key to my walking coma. If what he says is true, I’m far more than just a girl with amnesia… and I’ve got precious little time to unlock my past.

Pieces of Me depend on it.

Playlist…

I always have music playing in my house. Depending on the time of day, my moods, or my visitors, the music changes. Most of the time I prefer hard rock (Red, Project 86, Evanescence, FlyLeaf, etc) but I also love the Phantom of the Opera Pandora station, with some Les Misérables thrown in!

However, when I write any particular novel, my music must match the pace of the writing. And since Pieces of Me is about to release, I thought I would share my playlist. After reading the book, some of these songs will make you go “Oh! Perfect!”

Skillet: Monster http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mjlM_RnsVE
Project 86: Evil http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myxZ2CiFJkI
Red: Pieces http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3U6BCUQqG8
Evanescence: Bring me to Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YxaaGgTQYM
Project 86: Fall Goliath Fall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKGtfOrtJ1s
Red: Lost http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk1M3Esm-S0
Skillet: Awake and Alive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aJUnltwsqs
Evanescence: Bring me to Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YxaaGgTQYM
Red: Hymn for the Missing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y72_b3iMyoQ
Evanescence: My Immortal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5anLPw0Efmo
Skillet: Comatose http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-4Bab6nnI18

And finally, the last scene would be this song: Gracie’s Theme by Paul Cardall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmIUYBFbXs4

I’m excited about the upcoming release of Pieces of Me! So excited in fact, I want to give away an autographed copy!  Comment on this post and your entered to win one of the FIRST copies off the press. This contest ends on Friday at 10pm PST and Random.org will pick our winner.

Release Announcement

I’m so excited to announce the upcoming release of my Young Adult Science-Fantasy Novel, PIECES OF ME.

PiecesofMe_SquareBlurb: Forget everything you know.

Ian, the new boy at school, claims he has the key to my walking coma. If what he says is true, I’m far more than just a girl with amnesia… and I’ve got precious little time to unlock my past.

Pieces of Me depend on it.

About the Novel: PIECES OF ME started out as a log line rolling around my head at 1:30 in the morning. I jotted it down in my phone (otherwise I wouldn’t have slept) and let it sit there for weeks (maybe it was months, time just seems to zip by these days). Then, after the publication of my first two novels (BORN TO BE A DRAGON and RUNAWAY CHOICES), I came to a lull in my writing schedule and happened to look at my phone one day and WHAMMO, it just sort of happened.

The novel flew from my fingertips faster than almost any novel I’d written in my life, but somewhere around 3/4ths of the way, I stalled and stared at the screen, wondering what was next. Wondering how my timeline would work itself out. I charted and charted timeline after timeline, hoping to figure out the algorithms down to the minute. And when I did, I stared at it for days and still wrote nothing.

The breaking point happened when I realized I’d come to a stalemate because I didn’t want to see the novel end. After I allowed myself time to mourn, and mourn I did, I finished the novel. I cried when I closed the file for the last time and realized (to the tune of Gracie’s Theme by Paul Cardall) that my characters have so much to live for and so much hope. The PIECES OF ME that were placed in this novel were now ready for the readers.

I sat on this novel a long time, unwilling to open my fists and release it into the wild. So, after a couple months of dragging the feet of indecision, I finally made the plunge and shimmied up the Indie ladder once again. The view from up here is amazing. I can see the book in the hands of the world, and it’s exciting. I’m excited about this release and hope it lives up to the reviews I’ve already received.

Weird…

So, Pieces of Me is back from the proofer… and the proofer said it was surprisingly clean and smooth. Cool. Cool… so now what?

In the past, the book is ready for production right here. Weird. So what am I waiting around for?

A cookie? Well, no. Well, maybe. Actually, I’m not certain. Well, okay that’s not exactly true either. I need to figure out the launch before I just let it go. So really, that is what I’m waiting for.

This book has been quite a process, but I’m certainly ready to grab that cookie and toss it to the masses.

So, the rest of the week will be spent on planning a launch. Woot woot!
