Celebrating the release of Love Beyond Time: Interview with Rebecca Royce & Giveaway
Rebecca, welcome back to Mark of the Stars. It is always a pleasure to have you here. First of all, congratulations on your recent release of Love Beyond Time with Silver Publishing and for contracting the next two books in the series as well! To begin, can you tell us a bit about yourself?
RR: Well, I'm the author of more than twenty stories. They range in themes from paranormal, fantasy, and science fiction with one contemporary story. I am also a wife, mother, and animal lover. I live in the North East of the United States.
How did your journey as a writer begin?
RR: I've been writing my whole life but when I was pregnant with my second son, my husband encouraged me to try writing professionally, since I'd always dreamed about it.
The Outsiders from Love Beyond Time exist at the edge of our consciousness, pledging their lives to protect us from the evil plotting to destroy us. How do they keep from being discovered? What evil do they protect us from?
RR: They look just like us. It's impossible to differentiate them, physically, from any of us. In their world, humans like to ignore what they don't understand. A little cognitive dissonance. Also, some humans, who have given their souls over to the 'dark,' so to speak, can be used as vessels for the evil-doers to possess.
In the Outsider series, they are working to defeat a demon bent on world domination.
What special powers do the Outsiders have?
RR: Each Outsider has their own power. In Love Beyond Time, discovering their powers is part of the story.
What is involved in the training of the Outsiders?
RR: There used to be quite a lot of training but, thanks to the unfortunate fulfillment of a prophecy, most of our Outsiders have no idea that they aren't human. They're completely untrained, completely ill prepared for what is about to happen.
Can you tell us about the prophecy involved in Love Beyond Time?
RR: Nine groups of soul mates (eighteen total people) will have to face one great evil. Only they can destroy it and if any are killed before they can stop it, the world is doomed.
Can you explain the idea of Kal and Isabelle being each other's "other half"?
RR: Each Outsider has a specific power. Without their soul mate (or Unit) they are only at half-power. Without Isabelle, Kal will never be able to be as strong as he would be with her. Also, she completes him emotionally. Together, they make the other one whole.
Between Kal and Isabelle, which character proved easier to write and why?
RR: Kal. Isabelle had a long journey to understand who and what she was. Kal wanted to go kick some butt. He was fun.
What was your inspiration Love Beyond Time?
RR: I really have no idea. Love Beyond Time was the first book I ever wrote. Its been rewritten a lot since then. No idea where it came from, actually. It was just there one day.
Did you intend for this to be a series when you first started writing it?
RR: Yes, I always knew it would be a series. It's a long adventure.
Without spoilers, what can we expect in the next two books in the series?
RR: Each book brings together (We hope) a new soul mate. Love Beyond Sanity, the second book, and Love Beyond Loyalty, the third, continue the adventure.
Do you plan on writing more in this series?
RR: There will be a total of nine books in this series.
