'ManBearPig is real!' declare top climate scientists. 'And to prove it here's a photo-shopped image we found on the internet of a polar bear on a melting ice floe.'

Did you ever see a more moving picture? (Well, apart from all the other moving pictures involving polar bears). What particularly moves me is how wafer thin that ice is and how oh-so-far it is from land. Weep, oh readers, weep for the terrible plight of poor Ursus maritimus, the bear we all helped kill because of our selfish refusal to change our lifestyles! (Hat tip: Philippe Monthoux)

Well, anyway that's what 255 members of America's National Academy of Sciences want you to believe. The...

Cameron's first stupid mistake

Not content with having destroyed British conservatism, David Cameron has decided he might as well go the whole hog and finish off the British economy as well.

He announced it yesterday as one of his key priorities if and when he forms his Coalition of the Suicidal with Nick Clegg. He said he would make "the creation of a low carbon economy a priority."

Presumably – demonstrating that same sophistication that secured his party such a spectacular popular mandate in the General Election –...

So much for Cameron's Cuties…

I first started having serious doubts about the Cameron project at a charity quiz a month or so after he'd taken over as party leader. On my table was an Oxford contemporary who should have been a shoo-in for a Tory seat. Bright, personable, hard-working and incredibly dedicated, he'd come from a fairly humble, state-educated background and planned his whole life with a view to serving his country as an MP. That's why, after Oxford, he'd taken a job in the City which he thoroughly loathed...

Money Well Spent

Science, you may have noticed, has been getting a bad press of late. Scientists losing raw data, scientists withholding data, scientists cherry-picking data, scientists torturing the evidence till it says what they want it to say, scientists acting more like political activists than scientists. And, of all the world's media institutions, none has been quite so shameless in justifying, excusing or covering up this appalling behaviour than that supposed bastion of neutrality and authority, the ...

Is Ian McEwan a global warming denier in denial?

How would you like to go on a freebie to the Arctic Circle for a couple of weeks? Here's the deal: all your travel expenses are taken care of; you stay on a beautiful old sailing ship, most likely in some remote, picturesque bay far off the tourist map; you'll see killer whales and polar bears, possibly even the odd narwhal; you'll get to zoom around the pristine wilderness on skidoos; your food is prepared by a top Italian chef; there's lashings of booze (albeit rather heady North African...

Hilton, Letwin, Boles: into my office NOW!

"Every time a friend succeeds I die a little," said Gore Vidal. I predicted last week that this wasn't a sensation I would be feeling today towards my old mucker David Cameron. And so it has come to pass. I'm not feeling remotely jealous of the poisoned chalice he has just inherited.

But what I am is seething.

Britain did not want another Heir to Blair. The Mk I version was quite bad enough.

Britain did not want a faux Conservative whose role models were grim lefty termagant Polly Toynbee and...

Welcome to ManBearPighaven: the lovely new home that your carbon taxes bought

Al Gore has bought a new house. Another new house. (Hat tip: Mark Verschuren)

Reports the LA Times:

Former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, have added a Montecito-area property to their real estate holdings, reports the Montecito Journal.

The couple spent $8,875,000 on an ocean-view villa on 1.5 acres with a swimming pool, spa and fountains, a real estate source familiar with the deal confirms. The Italian-style house has six fireplaces, five bedrooms and nine bathrooms.

Whoops! CO2 has almost nothing to do with global warming, discovers top US meteorologist

The other night I had a nightmare in which a general election was approaching and all three main competing parties had the same suicidal policy. They all believed in this thing called the Big Bad Fairy and were convinced that the only way to drive off the BBF and her evil hordes was by spending huge sums of taxpayers' money – £18 billion a year was, I believe, the figure quoted in the nightmare – and by ruining the country with ugly, spinning Fairy Towers for the bad fairy hordes to nest in.

T...

What Lord Tebbit says: a bit more right-wingness will do Cameron no harm at all

Did you read Peter Hitchens's thrilling piece in the Mail On Sunday? It's the one where he urges everyone not to vote Conservative.

I don't care who else you vote for (apart from the BNP, which no decent person can support).

But I beg and plead with you not to fall for the shimmering, greasy, cynical fraud which is the Cameron project. You will hate yourself for it in time if you do.

The obvious thing is not necessarily the right one. A little knowledge can save us from making bad mistakes.

If...

Inventor of Mann-made global warming feels the heat

This blog's hero of the week is Ken Cuccinelli. He's the new Attorney General of Virginia and he's about to launch quite possibly the most delicious and worthwhile law suit in the entire history of litigation: one that could result in Michael Mann – arch-climate-fear-promoter, comedy You Tube Star, creator of the infamous, twice-discredited Hockey Stick – being fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for alleged misuse of state grant funding. (Hat tip: Watts Up With That)
