Why on earth shouldn't hotel owners be free to turn away gay couples?
Let's get one thing straight: if and when the time comes when I become sufficiently desperate to open my home as a bed & breakfast gay couples will be more than welcome. So welcome, in fact, that I'll advertise specially in the Gay Times and at Gaydarnation.com, as well as buying in the collected recordings of Judy Garland, plus decorating the walls with lots of prints by Robert Mapplethorpe and Tom of Finland, just to make sure they feel right at home.

Why we still heart Sarah Palin
There's a narrative about Sarah Palin that goes something like this: until the Arizona shootings she coulda been a contender. But then with her ill-judged reference to a "blood libel" she lost it, whereas the mighty President Obama only added to his stature with a temperate, thoughtful speech which united America behind him. Bye bye Sarah Palin.
Yeah, right.

Warmists: 'We can't win the game, so let's change the rules'
Willis Eschenbach's recent guest post at Watts Up With That? on the current state of 'Climate science' should be made compulsory reading in every classroom, every university science department, every eco-charity, every environmental NGO and in every branch of government. They won't like it up 'em, that's for sure.

Am I offending the wrong Americans?
Q. Why did God give liberals annoying, whiny voices?
A. So that even the blind could hate them.
This is probably my favourite joke from a new book I just published in the US, (hence the use of 'liberal' in its American sense), called 365 Ways To Drive A Liberal Crazy. Though I don't think it's quite as funny as the Obama 'Men Who Stare At Goats' joke or the one about Nancy Pelosi and the sheep on the desert island, I like it a) because I invented it (or, rather, adapted it from an old Eighties racist joke) and b) because it offends so many liberal pieties.

'Why will no one listen to us any more?' wails AGW propagandist
Bob Ward is sad. Very, very sad. "Why won't anyone listen to us any more?" he wails at the Guardian's Komment Macht Frei.
One or two helpful commenters have tried to explain the reason. But unfortunately, as Richard North has noted, at Komment Macht Frei freedom of speech is not encouraged. See how many of their comments have been deleted.

Twitter's bolshie Gove-bashers will destroy Britain if we let them
Which would you rather your kids learned at school: reading, writing, maths, sciences and at least one modern language? Or a less judgemental, non-hierarchical syllabus possibly but not necessarily including dubstep composition, poi skills, fire-extinguisher throwing, ethnic grievance studies and global warming, depending on how the kids felt at the time because after all they're the ones who matter in all this?

'Everything dead by tomorrow!' warns Zoological Society of London
The Zoological Society of London has drawn up a hit list of the 10 attractive coral species most likely to die quite soon. Well, of course it has. Nothing suits the ZSL's spirit of misanthropy and catastrophism better than another mournful litany of all the species loss which is bound to occur as a result of mankind's ongoing crime of having the temerity to exist.

Queensland floods: but at least the 'endangered' Mary River cod is safe, eh?
This is a guest post from one of our regular commenters, Memory Vault. He's understandably upset about the Australian floods, which may have claimed more than 70 lives. But what really upsets him is that this disaster could have been prevented. He blames green campaigners so wedded to their ideology they never stop to consider the human consequences. It is to them his bitter letter is addressed.

Television: Weekly shockers
Did you hear the one about Jordan's disabled son? Unlikely, since you probably don't watch Tramadol Nights (Channel 4), nor read the Mirror ('Katie Price furious after Frankie Boyle joke about her disabled son'), nor the Guardian ('Frankie Boyle's Katie Price joke sparks Ofcom investigation').
