Review of Fatal Breach
I just received another review for Fatal Breach! Thanks Alison!
Fatal Breach
Linda Rawlins
Riverbench Publishing, 2013
I read this sequel (the second volume in Rawlins's Rocky Meadow Mysteries
series) without having read "The Bench" (2011). Nonetheless, I was
immediately absorbed in the small-town Vermont setting and the compelling
characters, who transcend type (the wounded physician, recovering
alcoholic priest, or vulnerable teen girl) and are believable and
well-developed. Amidst the recent surfeit of Vatican conspiracy thrillers,
"Fatal Breach" offers an alternate, refreshing view of the church as an
inclusive, healing community, and portrays the spiritual life as intensely
practical and grounded in service to "the least of these," yet readily
permeable by the numinous and providential presence of God. The central
plotline of a Robin Hood-like cybercrimes ring of "hacktivists" could have
been more fully developed, and I was hoping for more closure of this theme
by the end of the novel. However, Rawlins has clearly set the reader up
for a continuing exploration of human and divine mysteries in Rocky
Meadow.

All the World's A Stage
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts -

The Crone Club - Review
A nice example of the new Boomer Lit genre, The Crone Club is about a group of school friends that reunite in their 60's. Some of these friends hadn't spoken in many years and finally meet up to see what has come of their hopes and dreams. Some of their lives turned out exactly as their school friends had predicted and some had not. However, strengthened with their friends courage and support, they each take on a challenge and a dream. The focus of relationships may be the friendship of Cass and Georgina who were abruptly torn apart. Cass has spent many years trying to solve the mystery of why and once she does, the two best friends move on to face those challenges. Throughout the book, all of the members of the Crone Club help to support each other in their unique ways.
Certainly an interesting book to read as one nears their school reunion. Stongly geared to female liberation and independence, we don't really see any friends that are lucky enough to have had a wonderful loving marriage and family life, perhaps they will appear at the next reunion.
