What the heck day is it? Geesh...

What is happening? Where did January go? Why is it June? Why is June almost over? WHAT IS GOING ON?

I'm fairly certain that there is an evil doer playing with time and we have no idea. When we say "Boy, time sure flies by," there's some craptastic villain muahahahaing and then dialing up the speed. Before we know it December will be here and I'll be talking about turkeys.

We need to fight this. I don't want to talk about turkeys. We need to slow the $%^@# down. Fight the force.

I've been busy trying to finish April Undercover - that story is soooooooooooooo much trying to fight me. When I tell it to calm down it flips me the bird and goes right on being complicated. But I will be victorious. I WILL!!!

**deep breath

While I'm doing that I'm also finishing final edits on my middle grade story. I love that story. I can't wait to share it with you. I think it's about time for a female sci fi hero. She's like Ripley - only she's nine and doesn't shoot aliens with flame machine guns. (Truth be told, she's nothing like Ripley, but I couldn't think of another female sci fi hero...still trying...)

AND - I started a new blog with my sisters - Weekends with my Sisters. Go to weekendswithsisters.blogspot.com. The first post is up. Next Wednesday there will be more. Possibly Thursday, because we procrastinate. We're still getting the handle on the process.

And that brings me back to time. I need more of it.

Hope you are all well!!
Evan

The In-Betweens

A few months ago I got the idea of putting some additional scenes on my blog to entertain folks while I was finishing the third book. I'm happy to say that they've been well received and the third one was posted today - A Stunning Afternoon.

http://samandmaxie.blogspot.com/p/ib3...

These fun scenes are helping to set up the events that happen in the next book - A Violet March. I'm excited to be nearly finished with the first draft.

I wish you all a fantastic Memorial Day. I hope it was filled with family and friends and fond memories of those who have passed.

Happy Mother's Day

A mother is a person who cares about someone else so completely that they first consider what they can do for that person before they answer the question for themselves.

A mother is a person who encourages, gives advice, tends to wounds, compliments...loves. A mother is a person who takes your side. A mother is a person who will push back her own hurt to tend to yours.

In that regard I know a lot of mothers.

I find all of those people extraordinary.

So to all the mothers - Happy Your Day.

Spring weekends.

I've been working on A Violet March and at the same time editing January Kills Me for a re-release. Having way too much fun doing both. I'm also dreaming about working on my science fiction middle grade book - A Breach in the Boundary. As soon as March is out, I'm going to turn to that (until April - tentatively titled April Undercover - overtakes me).

I signed up for another UCLA writing class...finally. Have missed working with other talented writers. I've also been considering starting a writers group for a few writers I know in the neighborhood. I want to keep it small, so that we have time for each other's work, but also varied, because different writing styles inspire me.

My son and I went to the library today and he checked out one of my all time favorite authors - Tad Williams. I picked up the first in the Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton. I think I read it a while ago, but can't remember. I'm in the middle of Bill Bryson's At Home and Christopher Fowler's Full Dark House (and enjoying them both), but they are airplane books and the vampire hunter series is a late-night-ease-into dreamland book. All this is just another sign that I am a flibbertigibbet.

What?

Spent the past week FREAKING OUT. Where is the year going? I swear yesterday morning was January.

I haven't been on Goodreads for a while and I sincerely regret it. A lovely person sent me an email today and alerted me to the fact that my profile listed me as a man. A MAN! Gah! Once I finished work, I logged on and fixed that. Geesh.

Each night after work I edit and write. Currently I'm writing a fight scene. People are getting bloody. I can't tell you who or my sister would slay me. She hates spoilers. But I will tell you that it involves women being tough and I'm enjoying it.

Happy Almost Friday!

Happy New Year!

What a strange year 2011 was. Full of incredible sadness and wonderful joy - sometimes both in the same day. The realistic part of me knows to expect much of the same in 2012 and years beyond. But I have a wonderful family and friends I love, so whatever happens I feel lucky to have a crew who will stand with me.

I'm very grateful for how well the Samantha Rialto books are being received. To thank everyone I am going to be posting in-between scenes on my official blog. Go ahead and click here - http://samandmaxie.blogspot.com/p/in-... - to find out what Sam and Maxie (and crew) are up to.

You can expect a couple more of these before the third in the series is released.

I wish you all the best in 2012!

Am Writing

Deep breath. Will now put down the work of the day, tune out the chaos of the after school hours and take a large sip of highly caffeinated tea so that I can reach my word count goal for the day (currently set at 1,500).

As you may be able to tell, I'm excelling at my procrastination efforts and am distracted by blogging, twittering and Facebooking. All things foreign to me just two years ago. When I wrote January Kills Me I knew none of those things. My only distraction was the television.

Must. Tune. Them. All. Out.

It is truly amazing what my children accomplish, as they are faced with much more legitimate distraction than I had during my youth.

Then again, I had to do my papers on a typewriter. Whew. Sympathy averted. :)

November = Thanks

I thought I'd post a thank you as my first blog entry for goodreads. Thank you to all the readers and those that took the time to rate or comment (good or bad). I love it all.

It takes such a long time to write a book and for many months (years) you and your select group of friends are the only ones who read it. Then, like a fragile paper sailboat, you release it and cross your fingers that all goes well.

I'm happy to report that all went well and am frantically working on book three to satisfy the myriad of emails I get demanding it. Fun times! So THANK YOU!
