For over a decade I have been friends with an amazing woman. Mia is a CEO, change-maker, an author, and she is not afraid to use her voice to amplify the need to make reading and diversity a priority. Mia has also published THREE books under Audrey Press and we couldn’t be more proud! Mia’s books include How To Coach Girls (winner of IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver Award™), Best #OwnVoices

The Realities of Writing: Emerging Author Advice from Hannah Rials

I am often asked by budding young authors what my best advice for becoming a published author is. If I were to advise anyone dreaming of writing their book, I would tell them that persistence is critical. Writing a novel is the hardest thing I have ever done, and the degree of difficulty is pretty high. However, it is possible too! It is a marathon, not a sprint, and you

It’s Goddess Month! Nurture Your Brain With Nature

First, what is Goddess Month, anyway? Here’s a little back history on Goddess Month was something my Head Elf, Becky, and I dreamed of years ago as kind of just a fun silly thing. But, in the years that have followed it’s kind of morphed into something more! The idea behind Goddess Month came to us because are both so busy during January that the first month of the New

How a 12-Year-Old’s Book Idea Ultimately Became a Popular Series

{guest post by author Hannah Rials} I was 12 years old when I started my first book in what would later become the award-winning Ascension trilogy. I remember waking up from a dream with the idea of writing about a community of vampires. It was around when the whole Twilight series was hot, and binge-reading the series was a “thing.” I had just finished reading the whole series is I

Read Around The World African Folktales Booklist

We are a family of happy travelers, in fact, we call ourselves “The Traveling Tribe.” It should be the name of our family memoir. When we aren’t traveling physically, we are “armchair traveling.” It’s educational, fun, and a great way to learn new things about our world as a family. One way I’ve taught my children about the 7 continents is to use books from a specific continent and incorporate

Teaching, Problem Solving, & More: 10 Minecraft Books for Kids

Not long ago, I shared a blog post that acknowledged that encouraging kids to play Minecraft may sound counterproductive, but it actually does have far-reaching educational value. I also shared a Minecraft Book that Creates a Bridge Between Parents & Kids. This post has been so well-received that I decided to dive even deeper and share a plethora of great Minecraft Books for Kids! Believe it or not, Minecraft is

A Minecraft Book that Creates a Bridge Between Parents and Kids

Who would have ever thought parents would be encouraging their kids to play video games because there are valuable learning components included?! I’m sure a lot of parents are thinking that right now. And yes, kids should be getting outside, exploring their world, reading books, and every else like that to live a balanced life. But right now, we are still in “staying home and laying low” mode thanks to

Riddles, Decoding, and Cipher Activities for Kids

If you didn’t see the fun secret message activity I shared in my last post, please check it out. I was so inspired by Sherlock Holmes’s birthday, that I decided to keep the sleuthing fun going! Master Code Maker Sherlock Holmes wasn’t the only master riddler. Did you know that our 3rd President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, was one of the best code makers and breakers of his

Imaginarium Geographica: Here There Be Dragons

Since today (January 16th) is Appreciate a Dragon Day, I feel perfectly fine with continuing my sharing of awesome dragon-y books for young readers. So today, let’s explore one of my favorite dragon-ish books that happens to be an extraordinary journey of myth, magic, and mystery. The book is Here, There Be Dragons.   The Imaginarium Geographica… “What is it?” John asked.  The little man blinked and arched an eyebrow.  “It is

A National Braille Month Helen Keller Booklist

I have greatly loved the story of Helen Keller all of my life and the fact that January is National Braille Literacy Month has refreshed this love even more. On several occasions, I’ve had the chance to bring the story of Helen Keller to life for my children and our friends. Each time it is a deeply moving experience as we walk into the world of the blind and deaf.
