Memo to Self

No no no.
I must not argue with the smug, pompous, self-infatuated jackass on Facebook.
Because that would make me just another smug, pompous, self-infatuated jackass on Facebook.

I Am Everywhere!

I've been off revising my online bibliography in order to better reflect current reality, so I thought I'd bring you up to date as well.Firstly, there's Deep State .  Which I'm sure you've read enough about, by this point, unless you haven't, in which case feel free to check out the online excerpt. Also appearing this month is my story "The Fate Line,"  in the anthology Golden Reflections. This is an anthology in honor of the late Fred Saberhagen, and includes an entire Saberhagen novel— Mask...

It Is Written

Well, I'll be damned!  According to the New York Times, the Egyptian revolt actually was the creation of a few highly-networked, tech-savvy insiders.. . . part of a remarkable two-year collaboration that has given birth to a new force in the Arab world — a pan-Arab youth movement dedicated to spreading democracy in a region without it. Young Egyptian and Tunisian activists brainstormed on the use of technology to evade surveillance, commiserated about torture and traded practical tips on...

Hubris

Anonymous is, of course, the hacker cooperative known for its online assaults against the Church of Scientology, white supremacist Hal Turner, anti-porn crusaders, the odd pedophile, anyone opposed to WikiLeaks, and the governments of (in no particular order) Sweden, Tunisia, Zimbabwe, Australia, and Egypt. So what happens when an investigator publically claims to have infiltrated the group and to have acquired the real names of some of its leaders? The attack escalated from some odd DDoS...

Behold! An Interview

Walter Jon Williams Week continues off-site, with an interview by Alyx Dellamonica.I should point out that this interview is Locus-style, in which all the questions have been edited out to allow the whole thing to be about, well, me.  The great advantage to this system is that there is more of me, for those of you who like that (and who doesn't?).  The disadvantage is that I seem to be rambling from topic to topic, whereas I am in fact focusing like a laser on answers to specific questions.  ...

Posted from the New Navel of the Moon . . .

Herein I present three random things found online that have nothing much in common other than the fact that I came across them at more or less the same time.Via Constance, the Guardian's review of Deep State. I may be wrong, but I believe this is the first time I've been reviewed in such an upscale UK publication.  Cutting to the pull-quote:Williams has crafted a slick, intelligent techno-thriller that never allows the melodramatic storyline to swamp the cast of sympathetic characters.A...

What? Me Again?

This seems to be Walter Jon Williams week everywhere but here on the WJW blog.
Once more I discuss Deep State and the State of Egypt, this time on i09.  This is a different essay, and a somewhat different topic, from the essay on John Scalzi's blog.
Thanks to the delightful Charlie Jane Anders for making room for me.
Scribble scribble scribble, eh, Mr. Williams?

@Scalzi

The splendid Mr. Scalzi has kindly loaned me his blog today for a chat about Deep State, the Egyptian revolution, and what happens when a writer finds his novel coming true before his every eyes.
Please check it out.
