Inspirational Trip

A night at The Orange Peel to see Cannibal Corpse in concert. Pretty awesome stuff. The opening acts were fantastic as well. One of the bands (Exhumed) had a guy come out dressed as a surgeon. He was wielding a chainsaw the first time we saw him. The second time, he held a severed head then dumped gunk onto the audience just before stage diving.

Cannibal Corpse, of course, kicked massive amounts of ass and delivered 20 songs that were thunderous, nightmarish visions. All in all, a great night that should lead to some interesting writing (I'm doing my first collaboration soon so this should be a hell of a lot of fun).

One more thing. "A Brand New Hell" is now live on Amazon, Amazon UK etc. Here's the deal on that... from April 11 - 15, it will be FREE. If you have Amazon Prime, you can get it free now. I'll post the link after I've had some sleep.

Tired.

Anywhoo, I'll be posting some of the concert pics and talking more about the bands on my Facebook page tomorrow.

G'night folks.

Zombies are on the way

"Birthday Wish" was my first published zombie story and I was quite proud of how it all turned out. During that time, I had several ideas brewing that will see publication soon. One of them was "Kingdom of the Dead", one is a highly emotional tale that is yet to be titled and the other... "A Brand New Hell."

"A Brand New Hell" sees the outbreak through the eyes of a minister and his wife as they take shelter within a supermarket breakroom.
Armageddon has arrived and the dead are knocking at the door.

Brian Keene's "Ghoul" on Chiller Network

Friday, April 13 (nice timing) will finally be the night that myself and many others have been waiting for for many moons. Ghoul was the first novel that I had the pleasure of reading from Brian Keene and it really blew me away. I've always loved a good "coming of age" story that's set in a horriffic universe and I have to say, Brian Keene's is scary as Hell!
Ghoul
This book made me an instant fan. What lies within is a nightmare ride into the darkness that haunts a small town. The suspense is stellar and the characters feel real. The book has a heart to it that drives the story and makes the terror all the more powerful. This is something you shouldn't miss. Picking up a copy of Ghoul (or any Keene novel) is a good bet.

Have a look at the trailer.
Be sure to catch this one on Chiller on Friday, April 13 at 9 pm. You won't regret it!

Just for fun... an early draft of "Birthday Wish"

Here's a very early draft of my zombie story "Birthday Wish" under the original title "Belated." As you can see, it evolved quite a bit. The version that was published in Soul Survivors: Hometown Tales is my favorite, however, this version does have a special place in my rotting heart.

BELATED

Had I have knownthen what I know now, I would've taken the barrel of this shotgun, placed it under my chin, pulled the trigger, and split my head rightdown the fucking middle. That was my mistake. Judging by the blast Iheard earlier my neighbor had not made that mistake.
I'm gettingahead of myself; I should really start at the beginning.
I am crippled. Ihave been for about five years now, ever since a car accident claimedwhat life resided in my legs, now they just hang there like theuseless pieces of meat that they have became. I still don'tremember too much of the accident, just brief glances into my memoryof a speeding car racing toward me being driven by some idiot whowanted to test the muscle of the V8.
I survived thecrash. I guess in some ways you could say that I was lucky. But afterlooking out the window over the past few days I'm not too sure that"lucky" is the right word.
It had all startedon Monday afternoon. At least that's the best that I can figure. Iknow the first time the news mentioned anything about them was onMonday. The first reports were of attacks at the airport. Someinitially thought it may be some kind of terrorist attack when a 747crashed on the runway. I, along with the rest of the country, watchedas the plane burned and could hear the screams in the background. Theterrorist angle seemed to make sense in a way. There had been allsorts of similar reports happening all over the world; along withriots and murders in the streets. It really seemed to make sense. That is until the reporter ate her cameraman on live television.
That was two weeksago.
Today, things thatwould normally cause my stomach to turn and knot are common. I haveseen things that no human being was ever meant to see. A toddlerwalked out into the street the other day. He was wearing an old dirtysleeper suit that was covered with either dirt or blood. He was toofar away to be certain but it was obvious that he was crying. I couldsee his shoulders jump with each racking sob and he chewed nervouslyon his sleeve. It was not long before one of them heard him. A middleaged woman stumbled out into sight. She had half of her stomachdragging along behind her like a dog's leash, and an eye danglingfrom the socket like a goddamned tetherball. She came from the frontof the building next to mine and quickly snatched up the crying boy.I closed my eyes and forced myself not to watch. Perhaps that was thescariest part of the whole event, the part when the crying stopped.
To say that I feltuseless was an understatement. Could I have built the courage to rundown the stairs, out into the street and scoop up the child in myarms like some caped comic book superhero and raced him to safety? No. If my legs were still functional I would've still sat here insilence with my head buried in my hands and cried along with the boy.
There is no helpanymore. To call out for it is futile and only alerts them to yourlocation. No. There is no help. There are no heroes. If there everwere any they are now out there walking the streets in search oftheir next meal or cowering behind the walls of an old dilapidatedbuilding hoping to die before the things come.
It's gettingharder to see the outside. There is an ever-growing haze filling thestreet and the sky has become an alternating strobe of black, red,and gray.
I honestly have noidea how long I've been sitting here in front of the window. I knowthat it has been a while since I have moved due to the stains on thecarpet from where urine spilled out from the seat of the chair.
My daughter hadbeen staying with me over the past couple of months, ever since myhired lady had gotten sick and had to take some time off. Mydaughter's name is Gina, named after her great-grandmother.
She hadvolunteered to come over and help me out while things were gettingstraightened out. I had begged her not to go out.
During the firstdays of the event, Gina had heard the reports. However there werenone in our area at the time and things still seemed to carry on asusual. We needed supplies just like everyone else and Gina was readyto make the trip. I told her that things were looking bad. But sheinsisted. She truly was my daughter because she had my stubbornnature all the way. It was my birthday, she said. And she thoughtthat some ice cream would do just the trick.
I saw Gina today. She was shambling around in front of my building wearing the samedress that she wore when she left. In her left hand hung a slightlyripped plastic bag, which, no doubt, contained a quart of melted, mint chocolate chip ice cream, my favorite.
The streets aregrowing more and more populated, there is no living in sight, onlythe dead. I know that it will not be long before I expire from oneway or another. I am very hungry and thirsty, and the door is onlyheld by the lock on the doorknob and a small deadbolt.
I can still seeGina down there. She has barely moved since I first saw her. As ifpresenting the belated gift, she raised the arm with the bag into theair toward my window. A stream of thick green goop oozed from one ofthe tears.
I told her thankyou, and I love you.
Within moments,Gina had disappeared from sight as she moved back toward my building. The others in the street seemed to follow her.
Heavy bangingsounds are filling the halls and the downstairs lobby. They will behere soon. My daughter is bringing a gift along with the rest of herfriends, which are enough people for a wonderful party. I wonder ifshe is bringing a superhero up as a surprise.
They are knockingat the door; I can hear the wood splitting.
I'm taking onelast look down at the shotgun resting across my lap.
The door haspopped open. My guests are here.
Make a wish.
It's time toblow out the candles.

Timothy Long's Beyond The Barriers

Beyond the Barriers

This is the first book that I've read from Timothy Long and I will say that it will not be the last. Mr. Long has crafted a badass zombie tale that strays from the pack, hunts it down and kills it! It's quick, violent, scary and creative; all things that zombie fans crave. The Ghouls are awesome. They have the ability to plan and they have a few more tricks up their rotting, slimy sleeves. I can't praise this book enough folks. Trust me, this one is a buy! Grab it NOW!

A very interesting recording.

This was recorded the other night. It was less than a mile from my house. At times, we could hear what sounded like trees being struck with something.

This video was recorded a while back. The location is about two miles away from where the screams were recorded.

This is nothing new for the area. You can see reports HERE, HERE, HERE and a local newspaper article HERE.
New posts will follow when I have a bit more to add. Meanwhile, here's some more from the area:
1940'S - PRESENT: Unusual sounds heard in the southern portion of Henderson county near the state line on Heatherly Heights road. Almost a yearly occurrance. Usually it can be heard mainly at night or early morning. The sound is best described as a loud "scream" that can be clearly heard throughout the valley below. Most recently sounds were heard outside a home on ***** road, only a couple of miles away from where the sounds were reported of a large type animal roaming through the front yard at night. This is still to be looked into and confirmed. However in the surrounding woods large footprints that measured 16 inches were found, as well as a small tree that was bent down and broken. The break was measured at around six feet from the ground. There was nothing in the immediate area that would have fallen and caused the break.
There have been numerous other reports that included a woman coming home from work, who claimed she saw a large black thing "leap" across the road. Last year, a large branch was found snapped. It was roughly 1.5 - 2 inches thick, a fresh break and nothing in the area that could've fallen on it to cause the damage. The break was roughly 8 feet high.
