Plano Fun!

Thanks to Suzanne Roberts, the Community Relations Manager at the Plano Barnes & Book Signing PlanoNoble Booksellers, for having me and three other authors of young adult fiction at her Plano store last Saturday. Thanks also to Stephanie Shaw, the owner of Steph’s Book Club and the newest member of my street team (center of pic) for organizing it. I had so much fun getting to know them and the other authors. Although we each spoke about our books, we also chatted about our writing processes, our inspirations, and a host of other writerly things.

Plano Sign

I learned that Fisher Amelie (upper left in pic) is writing a collection of young adult books based on the seven deadly sins, the most recent of which is entitled Vain. I really liked this concept. I think she said she’s currently working on another called Binge.

Heather Reid (lower left in pic) just published her debut novel, Pretty Dark Nothing, which she described as very dark, tending toward horror, the perfect read for Halloween. I enjoyed hearing about her writing process. She likes not knowing how her projects will end.

Amanda Havard (lower right in pic) said she’s more of a planner, but the most interesting thing about Amanda’s writing, in my opinion, is her incorporation of transmedia–such as songs and images–right there in the book. Her series, The Survivors, sounds like a fascinating read.

This coming Saturday, I’m traveling to Austin to sign at the Texas Book Festival. Please come find me at the Writers’ League of Texas table at 3:00 p.m. at booth #414-415, which is located in Exhibitor Tent 4 on Colorado Street north of 11th Street.

Also, don’t forget that the release of The Gatekeeper’s House (#4) is almost upon us. We’re at T minus ONE WEEK!

Youth Book Club Meeting on Skype

Thanks to April Holgate at United Neighborhood Centers of Northeastern Pennsylvania and her Illumination Youth Arts Program for organizing a book club meeting for me with her youth group over Skype.

Teen Centers

This summer, I donated a paperback edition of each of the first books to her youth group, and today we met for a half hour to discuss the series. I enjoyed talking with the nine or more teens present. They asked me some interesting questions and it was a pleasure to meet with them. I somehow ended the session by promising to name a new character after one of them.

If you are an author and would like to donate books to this worthy group, visit their website at http://www.uncnepa.org/teen-programs/.

The Book Lover’s Holiday Stocking!

Introducing the book lover’s holiday stocking! Both readers and writers might enjoy having a stocking made of words. And best of all, it’s big enough to hold most paperbacks!Book Lovers Stocking 3

I plan to take these with me to book signings between now and the holidays to give to people who buy my books. What do you think? Would you want one of these?

Did I mention that I designed and created it myself? I was inspired by the document chair I want for my office. I still haven’t bought the chair, but the stocking was so much fun to make!

Book Signing at Trinity University

Thanks to Elizabeth Ford at Trinity University Alumni Relations for organizing a fun event for alumni authors at Trinity University. I enjoyed meeting other authors from my school, Trinity Book Signing 4and I even got to take a trip down memory lane as I visited with Dr. Kersnowski, who was a professor in the English Department while I attended!

After Dr. Colleen Grissom’s speech in the Ruth Taylor Recital Hall, each author spoke for a few minutes before returning to our tables to visit with alumni. I told a bitTrinity Book Signing 1 about my young adult series, about how a mortal girl falls in love with a Greek god, causing some gods to give her gifts and causing others to try to kill her.

While a few people came up to take bookmarks and free buttons and ask about my books, I mostly visited with the author seated beside me, Robert Delwood, who

Trinity Book Signing 5 had written a technical book for users of Word. I was pleased to meet all of the other authors and found each of their stories (about what led them to write their stories) interesting.

Trinity Book Signing 3

I couldn’t believe how much the campus had changed since I’d been there. Northrup Hall, where I took most of my English classes, looked as though it had been scooped up and replaced with a completely different building.

Elizabeth promised to invite me again next year. I’m really looking forward to it.

Trinity Book Signing 2

Meanwhile, next weekend I will be in Plano signing at the Barnes and Noble on Saturday at 2:00 PM. I hope those of you from the area will come and see me. I’ll be bringing along a special surprise! And no worries if you can’t make it. I will reveal the special surprise to the rest of you later in the month! (Hint: It has to do with books and the holidays!)
