May is Mental Health Awareness Month
If you're wondering how you can get involved with #MentalHealthAwareness this month, look no further! I've been busy lining up your favorite authors and a few celebrities for a live Facebook event on World Suicide Prevention Day. To learn more about it, click on the image below: To help spread the word about my mental health awareness campaign, I'm running a giveaway! You can enter at the bottom of this page. I'm also pleased to announce that Phobos: Cupid's Captive, Book Two, is available for preorder in digital at Amazon! Click on the cover below to order your copy. It releases July 30th. Look for my May 8th email for a sneak peek. I am SO EXCITED about the direction this story is taking, and I think you will be, too! If you aren't subscribed to receive my emails, you can do so at the bottom of this page, just below the giveaway widget. Here's the blurb: Condemned to work on a Texas ranch alongside Phobos, Deimos, and Cupid, Ellie tries everything within her power to win over the hearts poisoned against her, to no avail. Frustrated and jealous of the rancher's daugher, Ellie's love turns to hate. The tension in the old shack they're forced to call home rises along with their passions, and a series of violent sexual encounters with the brothers begets Ellie's despair. As she spirals into the darkness, Ellie becomes her own worse enemy until a new shack-mate lifts her spirits and changes the dynamics between her and the brothers once again. If you haven't read the first book, Eros, you can find it here. All my books, except for The Mystery House Series, are now available in the Kindle Unlimited Program. I will enroll the remaining titles after Mother's Day. Until then, the first book, Secrets of the Greek Revival, can be purchased in digital for only 99 cents. The Hidden Tunnel Is Live and Other News
The Hidden Tunnel is LIVE! I can't wait for my mystery readers to read this fourth book in The Mystery House Series. I am so thrilled with how the story turned out, and I hope you will be, too. Thanks so much to all of you who preordered. As we're writing, authors are excited to know so many people are waiting to read the next installment. It's super motivating! If you're new to me and haven't heard of this series, it's about a hilarious trio of middle-aged friends who flip haunted houses and feel compelled to solve all the mysteries, no matter the danger, to bring peace to the ghosts that haunt them. In The Hidden Tunnel, Ellen, Sue, and Tanya travel to Portland, Oregon where a local billionaire has promised to give them his current renovation project--a historical carriage house in the downtown area--if they can find his missing brother. As they dig deeper into a local legend, they soon fear the cause of the brother's disappearance is more sinister and more powerful than ghosts. Tap on the cover to find all the vendor links: Thanks to all who entered the giveaway for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card and signed paperback copies of the first three books in The Mystery House Series. The winner is Yihua L. of Canada! Congrats, Yihua. Be on the lookout for an email from me later today. I'll have another opportunity for you to win big in my next email. Look for it on May 8th. If you aren't already subscribed to receive my emails, you can do so here. Those of you who subscribe to Kindle Unlimited will be pleased to know that The Mystery House Series will soon be joining my other titles in that program. Stay tuned for more details! And those of you who shop at other vendors need not worry. The paperbacks and audiobooks will be available at your favorite stores, and you can download a free kindle app to read the ebooks on any ereading device. My other titles are killing it in Kindle Unlimited. They've quickly risen among the ranks, and the number of page reads has been doubling daily! This is why I've decided to make Phobos: Cupid's Captive Series, Book Two, a preorder exclusive at Amazon. Be on the lookout for my email on May 8th, when this book will be available for preorder. In that email, I'll have my next giveaway ready for you to enter, and I'll post a sneak peek of Phobos. Here's the cover. I hope you like it as much as I do! And btw, Eros is already available in Kindle Unlimited, so if you're a subscriber, tap here to get started today. Last, but not least, I want to thank all of you who purchased the Book Lovers Unite for World Suicide Prevention Day 2019 t-shirts during my preliminary campaign. Book Lovers Unite for World Suicide Prevention Day
I have been advocating for and supporting my daughter, who is now eighteen, since puberty. Since she's a private person, I won't go into too much detail. She has been suffering with chronic headaches, nausea, acid reflux, insomnia, sleep deprivation, anxiety, and severe depression. Very severe depression. During this journey, I have come to realize how many people do not understand mental illness. Even my own husband. Our family has been ripped apart by this. My hubbie and I have come close to separating many times. There are so many other people who don't understand mental illness, who think that sadness and clinical depression, or nervousness and clinical anxiety, are the same things. Well-meaning people say things like, "Wake up each morning and choose to be happy." Or, "Focus on your blessings." I've even said things like that--before I came to understand. I also think there are so many people who feel alone and misunderstood and who have given up on fighting their mental illness. They need to know about resources. They need to know to keep searching for the right meds or the right doc. In this modern day, there is no reason why anyone should be living a life of despair or debillitating anxiety. Sometimes mental illness is the root cause--a chemical imbalance. And sometimes it's something else, like a weak thyroid or a brain tumor. But for some reason, many people think of mental illness as a personal weakness rather than as an illness like high blood pressure or cancer. So I'm launching a mental health awareness campaign in the book community. I'm organizing a booktube, podcast, and book blog tour, where people can share stories and recommendations. People can post blogs, podcasts, or videos about their own experiences, about books they feel deal with mental illness well, about resources, or about anything they feel is relevant to spreading mental health awareness in our community. The tour doesn't start until September 1st and World Suicide Prevention Day is on Sept. 10th, but I want this to be big, so I'm getting started early. In addition to spreading awareness, I want to raise money for the International Association for Suicide Prevention. Schedule:
March-May: Authors, booktubers, podcaster, and bloggers sign up to participate in the tour and event. April: Kickoff the first t-shirt fundraiser May: Kickoff the second, bigger t-shirt fundraiser (Create a post or video inviting your followers/friends to join the Facebook Event and buy a shirt.) June: Booktube, Podcast, and Blog Tours are finalized and announced; Promote t-shirt and event via social media. Aug. 1-14: Create a second post letting your followers/friends know that the tour will launch on Sunday, September 1st. Aug. 15-31: Remind followers/friends via Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. that the tour begins Sept. 1st. Sept. 1-9: THE TOUR (A list with links to each participating video, podcast, and blog will be sent to all participants to post in the video description/end of blog post). Sept. 10: The Facebook Live Event 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. CDT/2:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. BST/11:00 p.m.- 11:00 a.m. AEST Click here to join the Facebook Live Event. The Facebook Live Event will include interviews with some of our favorite authors and booktubers from around the world with opportunities for readers to ask them questions. Although I'll have more details in the coming weeks, if you are an author, book blogger, or booktuber, or any one who would like to particpate, you can sign up on this Google Form. Let's unite as book lovers to help spread mental health awareness and prevent suicide. I really do believe that we can help to make the world a better place. Book Lovers: Six Ways to Save
If you're like me, you're always looking for ways to save money and still do the things you love, like read more books. Well, I've got six suggestions that might help you to do just that. Number One: Read The Gatekeeper's Spin-Off Boxed Set. Newly released today, buying this set will save you thirty percent off buying the individual ebooks. If you loved The Gatekeeper's Saga and have been wanting to continue to the spin-off to learn how the twins deal with Pete's enigmatic prophecy about their destiny, getting the boxed set is the most economical way to go. Tap on the image below to find all the vendors. Number Two: Download Vampire Addiction while it's free. If you haven't had a chance to read the first book in The Vampires of Athens series, normally priced at $3.99, now would be a good time to grab your copy from your favorite vendor. Even if you're a subscriber and received this book for free, downloading the ebook from a vendor would be a great favor to me in two ways: 1. you can leave a review with a verified purchase, and 2. you can help the book rank higher, thus giving it more visibility. Tap on the image below to download your copy from your favorite vendor. You can also pin this image to Pinterest by hovering over it until the Pinterest icon appears. Number Three: Enter for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card and a signed paperback edition of The Vampires of Athens At no cost to you (except for a few minutes of your time), you can enter to win big. Think how many books you could buy with a $50 gift card! And who wouldn't want to own these beautiful books, designed by Benjamin Alderson, the famous booktuber at benjamineoftomes? Scroll to the bottom of this page to enter. By the way, the winner of last month's giveaway was Melanie Weaver. Congrats, Melanie (and thanks to all who participated)! Number Four: Buy Chris Cannon's new release while it's on sale. My good friend and fellow author has an exciting new release that's currently on sale for only $2.99 in digital. It's called 99% Faking It. Here's the blurb: Lisa is a card-carrying, book-loving Gryffindor. Solid. And that’s why everyone knows she’s awesome. Well, except for her crush, Matt. He only ever sees her as a friend. Plus, he’s got his eye on another girl. Oh well, plenty of fish and all that. Good thing Lisa just read a book on the “wedding ring phenomenon”—you get more attention when you’re already taken. What if Lisa pretends to be Matt’s plus one? Maybe it’ll help Matt get his girl and Lisa can hook her own fish. After the plan works, Matt suddenly claims he doesn’t like the view from the friend-zone and wants her instead… But she isn’t interested in being anyone’s second choice. If this guy wants to earn her attention, he’ll need more than some silly “phenomenon.” He’ll need to go all out… Tap on the image to find links to all vendors. Number Five: Buy Kelly Martin's new release while it's on sale. Another good friend and fellow author just released Trinity Row. If you enjoyed Secrets of the Greek Revival. you'll love Trinity Row. Here's the blurb: Local legend says Trinity Row is the house that won't die. Local legend isn't wrong. Sixteen-year-old Ivy Black and her mom have moved in for a quick renovation to make an easy buck. Then it will be on to the next rundown, abandoned eyesore. Simple. Move. Fix. Sell. Run. For the last three years, Ivy and her mom have run far away from their past. That's the thing about Trinity Row, though. It doesn't let the past die. When Ivy finds out that the friends she thought she made and the things she thought she's seen aren't exactly what she believed, she goes on a mission to free her mother from the snare of Trinity Row and the evil spirit controlling it. Except, after a trip to Trinity Row, you'll never want to go home again. For fans of The Haunting of Hill House and Kendare Blake's Anna Dressed in Blood. Grab it while it's on sale for $3.99. Tap on the image to see all vendors. Number Six: Get Emma Savant's new release while it's on sale. Fellow author and friend Emma Savant just released Dagger. Here's the blurb: Red Riding Hood isn’t so little anymore... Scarlett Hunter grew up knowing her mission in life: to kill monsters, protect the innocent, and one day follow in her grandmother’s footsteps as the leader of her family’s coven. So when her prettier, smarter, tougher cousin is given the leadership of the Crimson Daggers, Scarlett no longer knows how she fits into her world. Until, that is, a pack of werewolves kidnaps her grandmother. Now Scarlett has the chance to save her family and kick some Big Bad Wolf ass. But blood ties can’t always be trusted, and monsters aren’t always what they seem. Dagger is the first book in a new urban fantasy trilogy set in Emma Savant’s larger Glimmers universe. If you’re looking for magic, werewolves, and a kickass heroine who knows how to get things done, Dagger is for you! Tap on the image to buy it from Amazon for only $3.99. One more thing before I go. If you would like to "Live Chat" with me on Facebook, please join my secret Facebook fan group so you can attend my Live Q and A on March 21st. I'll be talking about Eros and The Hidden Tunnel and answering all your questions. Once you're granted admission into the group, please go to the pinned post to put your questions in the comments, so I can plan to answer them during the chat. I will make a recording of the session available for those who can't be there live. Tap on the image below to request admission. I hope to see you there!

Five Ways to Read More
I used to read so many more books a month than I have been lately. People used to ask me how I could write and read so much. Since I want to get back into my old habits again, I decided to share my secrets with you. Secret Number One: Listen to audiobooks. I used to listen to at least two audiobooks a month. Often, I would buy both the ebook and the audiobook, so I could go back and forth between them. Audiobooks make tedious tasks like unloading and loading the dishwasher so much more enjoyable, and they make waiting--whether in traffic or in lines at the bank, grocery store, or school pick-up--so much more tolerable. Almost all of my books are available in audiobook, including The Gatekeeper's Saga and Spin-Off Series (and The Gatekeeper's Bride, the prequel), The Purgatorium Series, The Mystery Box, The Mystery Tomb, and all the books in The Mystery House Series. In fact, French Quarter Clues just became available, so if you've been waiting for it, you can find it here: Secret Number Two: Take Avantage of Amazon's Kindle Match Program. If you prefer paperbacks, you might want to take advantage of opportunities to get the Kindle version of any paperback for free or at a discount. Many authors offer this, so that readers can easily go back and forth between the two mediums. If you're like me, you like reading at night from a paperback but don't like lugging it with you during the day. Having the ebook version makes it easy to read a chapter or two on my phone while I'm waiting around for something--like my food to be served at lunch when I'm eating alone. All of my paperbacks are enrolled in the Kindle Match Program at free. This means that if you bought one of my paperbacks from Amazon, you can get the ebook at no additional cost. Secret Number Three: Keep a Reading Log. I used to faithfully keep track of everything I read, which not only gave me a sense of accomplishment, but motivated me to want to read more, so I could add more titles to my list. When I used to review books (I stopped reviewing once I became an author), the log would also help me keep track of which books I'd reviewed. If you're looking for a pretty printable reading log to keep track of your titles, feel free to use mine. I'll send you the pdf via Facebook messenger. Just click here to let me know you want it. Secret Number Four: Buy series in box sets. Nothing motivates me to read more than having the next book in the series as soon as I'm done with the first. I did this with The Mortal Instruments, Twilight, and so many other books from my favorite authors. It means you have to wait for the whole series to come out, so it won't work for those brand new series you might be eager to start. But, if you don't mind waiting, or reading something that has already been out for a while, getting the digital box set will help you breeze through an entire series. Plus, buying the set is usually cheaper than buying the individual books. All of my series are avilable in digital box sets, and buying them over the individual books will save you thirty percent. Click on any of the images below to be taken to that set's product page. By the way, The Gatekeeper's Trilogy is free through the end of February, and The Gatekeeper's Spin-Off Box Set releases on March eleventh. Secret Number Five: Enter Giveaways for Books and Gift Cards and Find Free Books. Reading several books a month can get expensive. I used to be vigilant about entering giveaways and keeping my eyes out for freebies. You can search hashtags on Twitter and Instagram and subscribe to ebook bargain sites to keep abreast of the deals. I'm currently running a giveaway that ends in a few days. You can enter for a chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card and The Gatekeeper's Trilogy in paperback. If you're interested, click on the image below. I hope these secrets help you to better reach your reading goals! Happy Reading! Do you have secrets for reading more books? Please share them in the comments below!
