Matthew LeDrew announced as a ‘Chillers from the Rock’ author!

[image error]Engen Books is happy to announce that one of the established authors joining the 2018 From the Rock team will be none other than Engen Books’ founder, Matthew LeDrew!

A native Newfoundlander, LeDrew holds an Honours Degree in English from the Memorial University of Newfoundland with a minor in Anthropology and studied Journalism at College of the North Atlantic in Stephenville, Newfoundland. He has worked with Transcontinental Publishing as well as student-youth magazine The Troubadour.

He has written over a dozen books in the ‘Chillers’ genre, including the bestselling Black Womb series of ten books, Reptilia, and the ever-popular The Tourniquet Reprisal.

LeDrew is bringing two stories to the Chillers from the Rock collection. The first is a spine-tingling tale called The Lakehouse, which features a mysterious building in an abandoned Newfoundland town. The second, titled Flickers in the Night, is a story that takes place within the Engen Universe — in fact is a side-story within the Xander Drew series itself — and takes place not long after the events of 2017’s Faith.

One more author will be joining Dale Jarvis, Teresita E. Dziadura, Paul Carberry, Anastacia Hopkins, Jon Dobbin, Bronwynn Erskine, Peter Foote, Chelsea Bee, Sam Bauer, Ali House, Shannon Green, Michelle Churchill, Jeff Slade, Chantal Boudreau, Matthew Daniels, Maggie Carroll, Lynn Reicker, Eryn Heidel & Matthew LeDrew for the 2018 Chillers on the Rock collection, to be launched March 28 2018!

The Six Lights | Engen Books

In late December we launched a new ad for the company as a whole on our website and Youtube, to celebrate the completion of our ten-year anniversary year. A lot of people liked it, and we thank them for their likes and comments, but we wanted to take a second to point out one of the features of the video that had special meaning to us: The Six Lights of Engen.

Despite being started by one person and having a three-person board, Engen Books has always been a company based around a hub of collaboration and creatively. We wanted to express in the video that it was all these great, talented people coming together that made Engen what it is… so we had the Six Lights start separate and then come together as one, exploding into Engen Books.

Who are the Six Light?

Ali House: A native Newfoundlander, Alison is a graduate of the Fine Arts program at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College (MUN). She currently resides in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she works in arts administration and spends more time than a person should in and around theaters.

[image error]Amanda Labonté lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where she gets much of the inspiration for the characters and places about which she writes. Though she knew she wanted to be a writer since the eighth grade, it was many years before she finally walked into a creative writing class and found a new home. As the co-owner of an educational business and mother of two she spends much of her day with kids of all ages. They give her some of the best reading recommendations.

[image error]Ellen Curtis was born and raised in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Her aptitude for the written word began at a young age, when she began filling paper with stories and other scribbles. Those scribbles eventually began to make more sense, and in 2008 she published her first collection of short stories. Since then, she has gone on to co-author the Infinity series with Matthew LeDrew, among her other literary endeavors.

Ellen earned her Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2015, and was under the illusion that completing her studies would mean she would have more free time. In reality, it simply means she does more reading, albeit for work. When she actually does find a spare moment, she enjoys spending time near the ocean nursing an espresso and daydreaming about the day she can fill her home with the happy bleating of Pygmy goats.

Erin Vance is the editor-in-chief for Engen Books. Erin Vance is an editor and a graduate of the Memorial University of Newfoundland English Honors Program. Erin wrote her Honors thesis paper, Song of the Mockingjay on exploring the nature of Katniss Everdeen’s agency in Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games series. She is creative, spiritual, and loves reading, writing, and anything to do with words. Erin is the co-editor of the From the Rock anthology series, which highlights Newfoundland talent in genre writing.

[image error]Matthew holds an Honours Degree in English from the Memorial University of Newfoundland with a minor in Anthropology and studied Journalism at College of the North Atlantic in Stephenville, Newfoundland. He has worked with Transcontinental Publishing as well as student-youth magazine The Troubadour.

He has written eighteen novels for Engen Books, Black Womb, Transformations in Pain, Smoke and Mirrors, Roulette, Ghosts of the Past, Ignorance is Bliss, Becoming, Inner Child, Gang War, Chains, The Long Road, Cinders, Sinister Intent, Faith, Jacobi Street, Infinity, The Tourniquet Reprisal and Exodus of Angels.

Since 2007 he has traveled all over Canada promoting his work as well as teaching seminars on writing and publishing. He also helps young Newfoundland authors become published through Engen Books.

Paul Carberry currently works as a pharmacy assistant and will soon be enrolled in the Reserves with the Canadian Armed Forces. He has always enjoyed the whole horror genre and has always had a special interest in zombies. He is currently living in his hometown of Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, with his wife, Leah. His dream is to finish this story that he has started and to travel around the world selling his books.

Since January we’ve already added a new mainstay in Gold and Steel author Chris Walsh, with more announcements on the way! We hope to move forward and gain more “lights” as the years move on, until we have enough to make our 20 year video seem like the night sky. ❤

Thank you everyone who supports Engen Books and our Six Lights! Never Look Back!
