While It Lasts Movie- Answers To Your Questions
Since I announced that While It Lasts had been optioned for film back in November things have gone faster than anticipated. What many people do not understand is that if a book is optioned for a movie it doesn’t mean that movie will actually happen.
However, I chose to do things a bit differently. I didn’t agree to an option with a large studio production that would make my decisions for me. I chose to go with an independent company who wanted to work with me to take my book to film. In doing it this way things don’t go exactly the same pace.
This past week Addam Bramich, who will play Cage York in the movie has been spending his time in the south with me. During his visit we have taken advantage of the fact and hired a professional photographer to do teaser concepts of Cage York with Addam. This does not mean the movie is in production yet. It is simply early ideas for the readers to see while we work to get the movie in production.
Which leads me to the many questions both Addam and I get on our social media every day. We don’t always have time to answer everyone so I decided to do a blog post with answers to your questions.
Here they are:
Q. Who is Eva?
A. We know who we want for Eva. She is also interested. However we have had to wait until we had a script that we were all happy with. I can tell you that the script is complete and it was so perfect it moved me to tears while reading it. So the casting for Eva will began very soon.
Q. Who is playing the other characters?
A. Like Eva we have our picks for the other cast. But yet again we have had to wait on a script that we knew would make readers happy and that actors would want to be attached to. As soon as we are settled on our Eva this will then fall into place.
Q. Have you started filming and when is the movie coming out?
A. We haven’t started filming yet. We hope to begin in November of this year. Anticipated release will be mid to late 2016.
Q. How did you choose Addam Bramich as Cage York?
A. There are many reasons behind this. The most important reason is that when I saw what he could do I knew he would fill the role perfectly. I created Cage York and I knew the persona he had to have to become him. Addam was that and more. I would also like to mention that Addam is the reason this book is even being made into a film. He read While It Lasts then started looking for a director who was interested because he loved the story and wanted to be a part of making it happen. He contacted me first. Before anyone.
Q. Why isn’t the guy on the cover of the book playing Cage?
A. This is simple. The guy on the cover is not an actor. He’s a model. He also has been photo shopped. His hair was a light brown and his eyes weren’t blue they were green. Most models on book covers are photo shopped to look like the character in the book.
Q. Addam is from Australia and can’t play baseball and his accent isn’t southern. How will he be Cage?
A. Addam is being coached by a former professional baseball player. He is a wonderful actor and by the time we film this movie he will look legit. Trust us. Baseball is also not the main part of this film. It’s a romantic film set on a farm. The baseball that will be in it is very small. As for his accent he is working with a voice coach who is fantastic and his accent is getting spot on. We have that handled too.
Q. Cage was half Indian. Addam looks nothing like him. Why?
A. You’re right. Cage had darker skin and hair. But what is more important is that Cage’s attitude and swagger are perfect. Addam has that down. His eyes are also incredibly blue like Cage’s. Finding the right actor for a part doesn’t always mean that they will look like the character’s description completely.
Q. Who is the producer? Director?
A. Our creative team is in place. They have directed and produced many films in the past and we are positive that this is the perfect set up to make While It Lasts exactly what I want it to be.

Going back to the world of high school, Friday night football games and field parties was great; however, Until Friday Night is so much more than that. The story is deeper and darker than my earlier young adult books. It isn’t just about falling in love. It’s about finding a way to keep living when your world has been torn apart.
August 25 is the release of Until Friday Night . You can pre-order your copy now and receive it just in time for school to start back and football games to become the Friday night event.
Also, if you pre-order your copy of Until Friday Night and email your proof of purchase to untilfridaynight@abbiglines.com you will receive a code for 15% off the Lawton Lions t-shirts and sweatshirts, as well as the Ashby jersey tee.

When You’re Back Teasers
This Tuesday Mase Colt-Manning returns in WHEN YOU’RE BACK. I’m not just excited about the rest of Mase and Reese’s story but also for readers to get a chance to finally get to know a character that until now didn’t play a very big part in the series.
Also, expect a twist that you don’t see coming. I know… I do that a lot but this time it really will have your jaw hitting the ground. You may actually do a fist bump a few times into the air while you cheer. I for one can’t wait for the reactions from all of you.
Here are some little teasers until Tuesday! Feel free to share them anywhere you like.

When You’re Back Excerpt

“When You’re Back” Excerpt
Reese
I started to say something but decided against it. Mase didn’t say anything, so I took his lead and walked toward the bar.
He ordered a beer, and I decided on the blueberry cider after trying a sample. Once we had our drinks, we turned to see Aida coming directly for us . . . or for Mase. She looked upset. Really upset.
“I need you,” she choked out.
“What’s wrong?” he asked
She looked pointedly at me and then back at him, pleadingly. “I can’t talk about it here. Please,” she begged.
Mase nodded. “OK, where do you want to go?”
“Somewhere we can be alone. I just . . . I can’t.” She covered her mouth and squeezed her eyes together dramatically. I wasn’t sure if I believed something was wrong.
Mase nodded toward the house. “Let’s go inside.”
She nodded, and then Mase’s hand was at my back, guiding me forward. I knew this wasn’t Aida’s idea of “alone.” I had started to say something when she saw I was following along.
Her face crumpled again. “I can’t talk about this with her. Just you.”
Mase shook his head, as if he was about to argue.
“It’s Heath. He’s here with her,” Aida said with a sob.
Mase’s frown grew. “I know that’s hard, Aida, but I can’t leave Reese alone. She doesn’t know anyone here.”
This was my chance to win Aida over, if only a little. “Yes, you can. I have a drink, and I can sit in one of those lovely chairs and wait. Go with her. She’s upset.”
Mase didn’t seem convinced.
Aida sobbed again. “Please, Mase. I need you to talk me off a ledge.”
“Go,” I repeated.
Finally, Mase sighed and pressed a kiss to my forehead. “I’ll be back quickly,” he whispered.
I nodded, and he followed Aida inside. I watched them until they reached the house, and then I turned to survey the scene. I was at a party full of strangers, and no one else was sitting down yet. Maybe the tables were off limits until we ate.
I made my way to the shadows, where the lights from the trees didn’t reach. I could see the house from here, and when Mase returned, I’d be able to see him.
It wasn’t until I was out of the light and my eyes adjusted to the darkness that I saw I wasn’t alone. I paused. Should I be concerned? Or maybe I should just excuse myself and find another dark spot.
“He leaves you for another woman, and you hide in the dark,” a deep voice said. I could just make out the shape of a man leaning against a bale of hay with a beer in his hand. I studied him quickly to see if I should be worried. The first thing I noticed was his jeans, then his white Oxford shirt, similar to Mase’s blue one. But his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows. The only thing I could make out clearly from his features was his green eyes, which burned with an inner light.
“You decided yet?” the man asked, making me self-conscious that I was still staring at him.
“What?” I asked, confused. A low rumble that sounded like a laugh came from him. He tilted his head, and I realized his hair was pulled back in a ponytail. Although it was dark, I could make out highlights in his hair. Seemed like he spent a lot of time in the sun. “Am I safe to be around? That’s what you’re trying to decide, isn’t it?”
Was he safe to be around?
“That’s debatable, if you ask me,” he said.
“What’s debatable?” I asked.
He took a drink of his beer and studied me a moment before responding to my question. “Whether I’m safe or not.” He laughed again, although it was low and almost hard to hear. “You have an expressive face.”
How could he even see my face out here in the dark?
He shifted his stance and crossed his left ankle over his right one. I glanced at his boots and realized they weren’t like Mase’s boots. They were more like combat boots.
“Why are you out here in the dark?” I asked, not meaning to actually say that out loud.
He held up his beer. “Drinking my beer in peace.”
I nodded. That made sense. Maybe he didn’t like crowds, either.
“Why are you out here in the dark?” he asked.
I glanced back at the house, and there was no sign of Mase yet. “I . . . my boyfriend went to deal with something. His cousin is upset.”
The guy stared at me while he drank his beer. It made me nervous. It was like he could read all my thoughts. “But he knows you aren’t comfortable in a crowd of people you don’t know. A man shouldn’t leave his woman.”
He didn’t understand the situation. Who was he to judge something he didn’t know? “His cousin is upset. I told him to go.”
“Doesn’t change the fact that he shouldn’t have left you.”
I didn’t like this man. I would rather face the crowd than hide out here with him. “Don’t make assumptions about something you know nothing about,” I said angrily, before turning and walking back into the light, just in time to see Mase, his eyes scanning the tables for me. His long strides quickened as he walked down the steps and passed several people who were trying to speak to him. When his gaze finally landed on me, he looked relieved.
I hurried toward him, deciding I wouldn’t mention the guy in the shadows.

While It Lasts Concept Trailers
After a week in New York for BEA, I’m home again only to be leaving for LA in less than 24 hours of my arrival. Life can be crazy busy but then I love every minute of it. Especially since I’m headed to LA to deal with some While It Lasts movie things. That’s all I can say about
Since I haven’t been around much and my blog posts are slacking off I thought I’d give you some eye candy… wait… no, I mean some, uh… teasers (concept trailers) for the While It Lasts movie.
We have done several concept style teasers videos of Addam Bramich as Cage York. These aren’t actual clips from the movie but more preproduction ideas to give you a taste of Addam as Cage. He does a fantastic job stepping into the role of Cage York. He has the bad boy swagger and smirk that is a definite must and his southern accent is getting better every day.
Feel free to share these videos on your social media. I’d actually love you if you did! You can even post them on your blog. Just be sure to use the #WhileItLastsMovie hashtag.
Also, make sure you swing over to my store and pick up your “Cage Groupie” shirt personally signed by Addam and Me. There are only a handful left so act fast!

Getting Into Character The Badass Way
In While It Lasts there is a scene in the lake where Eva sees Cage shirtless for the first time. He has a barbell piercing through his left nipple and like most women she’s fascinated. When I wrote this into the book I never thought I’d one day be going with the actor that had been cast as Cage York to get his nipple pierced.
But oh boy am I glad it did happen that way. Addam Bramich was hilarious. The entire event will forever be stuck in my head as one epic afternoon. I don’t think I’ve laughed that much in my life.
Other than Addam’s sense of humor making it memorable, actually seeing it happen was awesome. More than once that day I reminded him it could be worse. He could be playing the role of Rush or… Krit. And if you’ve read those books you know their piercings are even more intense.
Addam’s desire and determination to immerse himself into the role of Cage York and give readers the best version of the story that he can was stated loud and clear. Because as funny as he was… you can tell he was also terrified. In the end he was a real badass.

Addam Bramich AKA Cage York is in Alabama
When I created Cage York in 2012, I knew that he had changed my writing style forever. Although Cage wasn’t the hero in the book he was introduced in – Because of Low, his book did come several months later when I wrote While It Lasts.
My male characters evolved and so did my writing style with that book. Cage pushed all my boundaries and I loved him for it. He made me a better writer. I learned that when a character breaks the rules of what we consider safe that it can become something epic. And to me he was just that- epic.
Now, as I experience every aspect of taking my book from paper to the screen I’m thankful it’s with a character that is so much a part of the author I’ve become. Choosing a Cage York wasn’t something I ever even considered. However, Addam Bramich fits the character perfectly. His real personality is so close to Cage York’s that at times I forget he isn’t Cage.
It is safe to say that I’m looking forward to the filming of this movie and watching one of my most beloved couples come to life.
So that Addam can immerse himself in all things Sea Breeze, he is currently in South Alabama with me. Having him in my office, playing with Harlow (my dog), walking along the beach that inspired Sea Breeze, and hanging out in the club that inspired Live Bay is surreal.
In my head all my characters are my friends. I know them well. Now, I can say with all honesty that Addam has become my friend. Which makes this process all the more fun.
Do we know who Eva is? Yes. Are we telling yet? Soon.
