WHILE IT LASTS Sneak Peek #4

Excerpt from WHILE IT LASTS by Abbi Glines
Release date set for July 31, 2012

Leaning against the tree, I took another swig of water and wrapped the ice towel around my neck. The breeze was nicer when the scorching sun wasn’t bearing down on you.             “What did you do to Becca Lynn?”            Snapping my head up from its resting place against the tree I took in the first real sight of Eva I’d had since the night at the lake. Her long brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail. She was wearing a short white cotton sundress and a pair of flip flops. She was also trying real hard to look stern. She wasn’t upset with me. She was just being nosey. I liked that.             “Good morning to you too Eva,” I replied unable to keep from smiling.             She tilted her head to one side and continued to force that frown. I’d seen the real thing. This was not the real “angry Eva” face. “Becca Lynn hasn’t come around in two days. That isn’t normal. Especially since she was so hot after you. So, what did you do to her?”           “I believe it’s what I didn’t do to her.” I took a slow swig of my water but I didn’t take my eyes off her as she let me words sink in.           Shifting her feet she put her hands on her hips. “What does that mean?”           “It means exactly what it sounds like. I didn’t do her. I’m guessing that’s the problem.”
Eva’s fake scowl disappeared and she was frowning. “But I saw you both naked at the…” she trailed off and her eyes grew wider. Two pink splotches covered her cheeks. Eva Brooks had come back to the lake the other night. And she’d seen me naked. Yeah, I was going to have to spend a lot of fucking time in the shower now. The image of her sneaking around to see me naked was just hot.          “Did Eva Brooks come back to the lake and get her eyes full?” I teased.

Finding the Perfect Cage & Eva

I asked for Cage & Eva pictures and OH WOW did y'all supply. I have had the hardest time narrowing down my favorites. I ended up choosing the top six because of the following traits:
- it fit a scene in the book
- Cage's arms are muscular not skinny
- Hair color is dark for both Eva and Cage
- Cage is twenty-two and Eva is twenty. I needed them to look older than teenagers.

Since the prize is an early ecopy of While It Lasts I am going to have y'all vote on your favorite because I just can't. It's driving me nuts!

While It Lasts Sneak Peek #3

“You didn’t tell me you had company, Eva,” Becca Lynn cooed twirling one of her long blonde locks around her finger while batting her eyelashes in Cage’s direction. Good lord she was ridiculous.           “I don’t have company Becca,” I snapped hoping to get her attention but it didn’t work. “This is Daddy’s summer help. He’s working with our cows. Because he got a DUI and he is serving time.” Maybe that would wake her up out of this worshipful gaze she had on him. But it didn’t.           “Oh, so you’ll be here all summer?” she asked still smiling up at Cage like he was a freaking rock star.          “Looks that way,” he replied in an amused tone. Great even the man whore beside me thought she was making a fool of herself.           “Well, when you’re not working and get bored I could keep you company—“          “Becca Lynn,” I raised my voice to stop her from offering to come warm his damn bed in the barn.          Finally, her eyes shifted off Cage to meet my gaze. The twinkle in her eye told me she knew exactly how it sounded and she didn’t care not one bit.         “Thank you. I’m sure that I’ll be needing someone to show me what to do for entertainment when the work-day's through. I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather have take me around and enlighten me to the things to do out here in the country.” The sexy drawl thing he had going on just pissed me off. It also gave me chill bumps and made my heart race.          Becca Lynn’s eyes swung back over to eat Cage alive. “That sounds like a really good plan,” she closed the distance between them and held out her perfectly manicured hand. Hot pink nails that I was sure matched her toenails, wiggled in his direction invitingly. Becca was as high maintenance as they came around here. “I’m Becca Lynn Blevins.”         Cage closed the small amount of space Becca had left between them and slipped his hand into hers. Did Becca just shiver? “Cage York and it’s a pleasure, Becca.”        “Oh,” she breathed. Her head tilted back as she drank him in. I swear, if he kissed her in my kitchen I was going to throw my cobbler batter at him.         “I got to get back to work. I’ll be looking for you to come entertain me real soon, Becca Lynn.” Cage said in a low whisper then stepped around her and headed out the door without a backward glance.

WHILE IT LASTS- sneak peek #2

Damn. Maybe I should come out to the country more often. I didn’t realize they grew girls like this out here.         “Eva, you aren’t ready yet? I thought we were gonna make the six-thirty show,” Jeremy said from behind me. Ah, hell no. Surely not. This goddess was with that guy? I brought my eyes back up to her face to find her blue eyes staring directly at me. They really were the bluest fucking eyes I’d ever seen.   “Who are you?” the icy tone in her voice took me by surprise.    “Down, girl. Play nice, Eva. This is the guy your daddy has helping him this summer.” Her eyes flashed something that looked like, disgust? Really? I’d seen that look in a girl’s eyes before but never directed at me. Interesting.      “You’re the drunk,” she stated. It wasn’t a question. So I didn’t reply. Instead, I flashed her the sexiest smile I had and took a step toward her.       “I got a lot of names, baby,” I finally responded.       Her eyebrows arched and she straightened her stance before nailing me with the coldest glare I’d ever been witness to. What was this chick’s deal?     “I'm sure you do. Let me guess, STD, loser, jackass, and drunk- just to name a few,” she clipped stepping out of the door and slamming it behind her. Her gaze shifted to Jeremy, who was chuckling behind me.

The first teaser from WHILE IT LASTS

My phone started ringing in my pocket and I pulled it out to see Low’s name lighting up the screen.  “Hey baby,” I replied backing up and sinking down onto the bed. Surprisingly the mattress wasn’t bad.             “So how is everything? Are they nice?” Just hearing Low’s voice made me feel better. Not so alone.             “I’ve only met the guy’s daughter and the next door neighbor.”             “Oh, so there’s a farmer’s daughter?” the teasing tone in Low’s voice made me chuckle. Yeah, there was a farmer’s daughter alright but it wasn’t what Low was thinking.             “There’s a farmer’s daughter but she hated me on sight. Crazy I know and, to think, I thought it was impossible for a female to hate me until after I bagged her then forgot her name in the morning.”             “She hates you? That’s… odd.” Low’s voice trailed off like she was in deep thought.

Sawyer and Lana's Wedding

“Sawyer!” Lana squealed as I crawled into the window of my mother’s sitting room. “You are not supposed to see me before the wedding. It’s bad luck,” the frown in her eyes didn’t mask the excited tone in her voice.   I closed the window behind me then turned around to take in the sight of my incredibly gorgeous bride. Her long red hair had been curled causing ringlets to cascaded loosely down her back. The white dress she wore was simple and elegant. It also hugged her every curve and my mind instantly went to later tonight when I would be the lucky man taking it off.             Closing the distance between us, I placed a hand possessively on her hip and pulled her up against me careful not to wrinkle her dress or my shirt. Not that I cared but I knew she would. “It’s my wedding day. I’m making new rules. Besides, the not seeing the bride thing sucks. I couldn’t go another minute without seeing those pretty eyes.”             Her stern expression instantly melted and she smiled up at me. “A girl can’t exactly argue with that logic,” she purred and stood on her tip- toes to press her lips gently against mine. One small sweet peck before she moved back. “We can’t mess up my makeup. Ash spent over an hour on it. She’ll be upset if we smudge anything.”            Ash was the last concern on my mind. Right now, I just wanted my wife. Pausing, I stared down at her and let that one word sink in… wife. Lana would be my wife in an hour’s time. How had I managed this? God knows I don’t deserve her.             Reaching out I tucked a lone curl behind her ear and gently ran my thumb over the diamond teardrop earrings I’d bought her for her birthday last year. She was the most precious thing in my life and once I’d almost let her slip right through my fingers.             “Sawyer, you have to go,” she urged placing her hands on my chest and pushing me gently.             “I’m going. But first,” I paused and reached into my pocket and pulled out a letter that I’d kept close for five years. “I want to read you something.”             Lana’s eyes found the familiar letter in my hand and she frowned. I knew she recognized it. She’d written it after all. But she didn’t know I still had it tucked safely away all these years.             “What are you doing with that letter?” she asked nervously. I knew it didn’t hold fond memories for her. She’d been hurting and broken when she’d written the words I’d memorized.             “The day I read this letter, I changed. Completely. Not because I’d finally realized that I was in love with you. Not because I had caused you pain. I changed because I knew in that moment that you had become my number one. Nothing else mattered if I didn’t have you.”            I started to say more but Lana grabbed the lapels of my tuxedo and pulled me down to her. All thoughts of her makeup were gone as her soft lips pressed hungrily against mine. One tiny swipe of her tongue against my bottom lip and I decided I wasn’t real concerned about wrinkling our clothes.
Lana
“What’re y’all doing?” Ashton’s horrified voice broke me out of my needy haze. I quickly stepped back from Sawyer’s arms and spun around to face my maid-of-honor.             “We uh, well, we were, uh,” I stammered nervously.             “They were sucking face,” Catherine announced as she flounced into the room smiling like a Cheshire cat.             Sawyer chuckled at his little sister’s remark and I had to fight to keep from grinning. Ashton didn’t look at all amused by the situation.             “You’ve messed up your lip stick. Sawyer get out of here before I go get your Mama!” Ashton scolded and stalked toward me looking like a fairy princess in her pale pink dress and head full of bouncing blonde curls.             “Relax Ash. I’m leaving. I just needed to see my girl. You know, make sure she was still going to come walking down that aisle to make me the luckiest man on the damn planet.”             “I think I may puke,” Catherine chimed in from her perch on the settee.             Catherine and Cade hadn’t been around the summer Sawyer and I got together. They’d gone to spend six weeks with their grandmother. It had been an adjustment getting to know Sawyer’s large family. It had always just been me and my parents and then my dad had left and it had just been me and mom.             “She will make it down the aisle. I promise. Now go!” Ashton demanded and Sawyer winked at me before turning and leaving the room via the door this time.             “I swear you two are so difficult. The rules are--"            “I’m marrying Sawyer, Ashton. Let’s not worry about the rules.” I interrupted her. The frustrated frown disappeared and a small smile took its place.            “I’m so happy for you two,” she replied as her eyes glistened with unshed tears.             “Don’t make me cry. You’ve already gotta fix my lipstick. You don’t want to have to fix my eyes too, do you?”             Shaking her head Ashton grabbed my hand and led me over to the chair where I’d sat for over an hour while she fixed my face the first time. “I’m going to fix you up this time and you keep those lips off Sawyer until you say ‘I do’.”
White lights covered every tree branch in the Vincent’s backyard. A hundred white chairs were lined up with simple white bows tied on the back of each one. Pink roses petals covered the path in front of me leading to Sawyer.  The song Forever by Ben Harper began playing over the speakers. That was my que. I smiled up at my uncle as he held his arm out for me to take.             “I can’t believe I’m giving both you girls away to a Vincent Boy in one years time.” He chuckled softly. I turned my gaze back to the arbor covered in white lights where Sawyer stood waiting on me.  His dark hair curled around the white collar of his shirt. His beautiful green eyes twinkled with pleasure as they centered on me. He was waiting for me. It was time for us to start our forever.
