Hi, Megan! Just wanted to say how much of a huge fan I am of your work. So much so that I actually wrote a poem titled "Ugly Girl" after your poem, "Fat Girl." I've received a few messages over the past few hours since posting it explaining to me how very
Hi there, human!
Thank you for writing to me. It means the sunflowers that you were inspired by my work. I am inspired by a lot of poets, and sometimes I try my hand at honoring them through a poem similar to theirs. Every time I read or post a poem like such, I make sure I give them credit. You can see a few “after” poems in my book, inspired by poets such as Jeanann Verlee and Molly Guiles.
"Fat Girl" was written after Angel Nafis, who wrote a poem called "BlackGirl" after Terrance Hayes. Terrance Hayes wrote the ORIGINAL poem, "The Blue Seuss." So please, read those poems. Breathe those poems. Study, hard. And make sure when you post your inspired poem, that you credit those people LOUDLY. Without whom, none of this would be possible.
Oh, and keep writing! It opens all the windows.
