Death will come and will wear your eyes –
the death that is with us
from morning to evening, sleepless,
deaf, like an old regret
or an absurd vice. Your eyes
will be a futile word,
a cry kept silent, a silence.

that day we too will know

Death keeps an eye on each of us.

They turned the light out
and the dark is moving in the corner.
There are no sign posts in this room,
four ladies, over eighty,
in diapers every one of them.
La la la, Oh music swims back to me
and I can feel the tune they played
the night they left me
in this private institution on a hill.
Imagine it. A radio playing
and everyone here was crazy.
I liked it and danced in a circle.
Music pours over the sense
and in a funny way
music sees more than I.

Na sua Autobiografia, William Carlos Williams fala da escolha da medicina como carreira e não da poesia. Não conseguindo viver da escrita, querendo muito escrever, precisava de um day job que o sustentasse. Escolheu medicina. Aqui ao lado a fotografia do poeta no seu passaporte de 1921.
