In his project ‘Art x Smart’ Korean illustrator Kim Dong-Kyu updated paintings by Van Gogh, Picasso, Chagall or Munch with the latest achievements of our modern time. Already at the first glance it is obvious how ridiculous gadgets like iPhones, tablets and laptops appear in this ancient art, which questions our dealing with the advanced technologies. The works should be humorous parodies of the way smartphones have dramatically changed today’s social interaction. The models in the clas...

Ezra Pound - In Durance

I am homesick after mine own kind,
Oh I know that there are folk about me, friendly faces,
But I am homesick after mine own kind.

'These sell our pictures'! Oh well,
They reach me not, touch me some edge or that,
But reach me not and all my life's become
One flame, that reaches not beyond
My heart's own hearth,
Or hides among the ashes there for thee.
Thee'? Oh, 'Thee' is who cometh first
Out of mine own soul-kin,
For I am homesick after mine own kind
And ordinary people touch me not.
And I a...

In 1996, Stefanie Schneider bought three boxes of old Polaroid film on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. Since then, her works have been easy to recognise, not only because of the typical, square format of a Polaroid, but also due to their surreal colours. This “look” of a Schneider work remains impossible to define, because the behaviour of the chemicals during development is so unpredictable. And yet, while the works retain an element of spontaneity, the content and composition of thes...

Gia dagli occhi il velo è tolto

Bejun Mehta (countertenor) singing the beautiful aria "Gia dagli occhi il velo è tolto" from Mozart's Opera Seria "Mitridate, Re di Ponto".

Salzburg Fetival 2006; Conductor: Marc Minkowski with Les Musiciens du Louvre; Director: Günter Krämer

Lyrics:
Già dagli occhi il velo è tolto,
vili affetti io v'abbandono:
son pentito, e non ascolto, che i latrati del mio cor. Tempo è omai, che al primo impero
la ragione in me ritorni;
già ricalco il ben sentiero
della gloria e dell'onor.

Jane Mead - Walking, Blues

Rain so dark I
can’t get through—
train going by

in a hurry. The voice
said walk or die, I
walked,—the train

and the voice all
blurry. I walked with
my bones and my heart

of chalk, not even
a splintered notion:
days of thought, nights

of worry,—lonesome
train in a hurry.
