William Bronk - What We Are

What we are? We say we want to become
what we are or what we have an intent to be.
We read the possibilities, or try.
We get to some. We think we know how to read.
We recognize a word, here and there,
a syllable: male, it says perhaps,
or female, talent -- look what you could do --
or love, it says, love is what we mean.
Being at any cost: in the end, the cost
is terrible but so is the lure to us.
We see it move and shine and swallow it.
We say we are and this is what we are
as to say we should be and th...

Ron Padgett - What Are You On?

If you asked an Elizabethan

What are you on?

he or she would have answered

The earth, this terrestrial globe

whereas today it means

What medication

are you taking?

(Are you taking has less energy

than What medication it is an anticlimax

without a climax)

And today What are you on about?

would have sounded like

What are you of thereabouts in?

and will

So what medications are

you on?

I am taking italics it pokes

a hole in whatever is going to be

so I can slip through

and not have arms and legs...

David Mourão-Ferreira - Labirinto Ou Não Foi Nada

Talvez houvesse uma flor
aberta na tua mão.
Podia ter sido amor,
e foi apenas traição.

É tão negro o labirinto
que vai dar à tua rua ...
Ai de mim, que nem pressinto
a cor dos ombros da Lua!

Talvez houvesse a passagem
de uma estrela no teu rosto.
Era quase uma viagem:
foi apenas um desgosto.

É tão negro o labirinto
que vai dar à tua rua...
Só o fantasma do instinto
na cinza do céu flutua.

Tens agora a mão fechada;
no rosto, nenhum fulgor.
Não foi nada, não foi nada:
podia ter sido amor.

R.E.M. - Hope

You want to go out Friday
And you want to go forever
You know that it sounds childish
That you dreamt of alligators
You hope that we are with you
And you hope you're recognized
You want to go forever
You see it in my eyes
I'm lost in the confusion
And it doesn't seem to matter
You really can't believe it
And you hope it's getting better

You want to trust the doctors
Their procedure is the best
But the last try was a failure
And the intern was a mess
And they did the same to Matthew
And he bled 'til Sunday ni...

Maya Angelou - Still I Rise

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
Weakened by my soulful cries.

Does my haught...

Prequel - Saints

Prequel's back with more of the soulful, jazz-tinged productions that got our attention first time round with his debut EP, our 3rd release: 'POLITE STRANGERS'. The record proved a hit with the likes of Gilles Peterson, Osunlade, Recloose, Mister Saturday Night, Ben UFO and garnered a cult following amongst music lovers, spreading the word of the label farther afield in the process.
Holding the fort as Rhythm Section ambassador down under, Prequel has stepped things up for his sophomore EP,...
