The Book Tour Rolls On
After a lovely afternoon in Ponca City, Oklahoma--Brace Books! Chicken-fried-chicken! The Pioneer Woman!--I headed to Wichita last night for an event at Watermark Books. For a book nerd like me, getting to visit an iconic store like Watermark is its own reward. But add to that a wonderful crowd of folks, many of whom had parents or grandparents who lived through the Dust Bowl, and it made for a truly memorable evening. One 94-year-old man came up to me to say he grew up in Boise City, the town I fictionalized. How cool is that?

Full Circle Books
I had so much fun at Full Circle Books last night in Oklahoma City. First of all, what a book store! Gorgeous and cozy and huge. I could move in. After a short reading I had a conversation with longtime dear friend Lance McDaniel, who is a local filmmaker, and whose extended family made up most of the audience. As an added bonus, I got to meet GR friend Kirk!
Thank you to Oklahoma City. I love it here.
Next stop Ponca City, Oklahoma. I bet few of you can say you've been there!

Kirkus TV
Here I am amidst moving boxes in a very hot apartment while they are jack-hammering the roof. And talking to Kirkus. (note to self: next time, pick a better spot)

Boston Globe
Thank you to Jan Gardner at the Boston Globe for choosing I Will Send Rain as her Pick of the Week. And Lori Fazio at RJ Booksellers in Madison, CT, for her thoughtful synopsis.
Pick of the Week
Lori Fazio of R.J. Julia Booksellers in Madison, Conn., recommends “I Will Send Rain” by Rae Meadows (Holt): “In the West of the 1930s as the Dust Bowl storms begin, Annie Bell struggles to keep her home, body, and family free of the layers of dust that reappear as fast as they are wiped clean. Her husband dreams of rain; her teenage daughter is blinded by love; her young son suffers from dust pneumonia; and now an admirer is forcing Annie to question her own ethics and being.”
