Boudica

Just finished listening to "Boudica" by Jon Richards, released by Medwyn Goodall Music.
Boudica was a British queen of the Iceni tribe who led a revolt against the Roman Empire in AD 60 or 61. She is a symbol of British national pride and independence, and her life and deeds are recorded by Roman historians Tacitus and Cassius Dio. Boudica's rebellion against the Roman Empire did not fare well, and she and her daughters suffered a horrific fate.
Richards uses a blend of Celtic flutes, harp, guitars, orchestra, vocals, drums, percussion and keyboards. Cinematic, powerful, inspiring, yet emotive and ethereal; to take the listener on a magical journey into the life of the Queen of the Iceni.
My favorite tracks on this CD are: "Twilight Invocation," "The Druidess," "March of Fate," "Lost Freedom," and "Ghosts of the Iceni."
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
TEN STARS!

In Search of Peace

Just finished listening to "In Search of Peace" by Wychazel, released by Medwyn Goodall Music.
Wychazel is the recording and production alias used by Chris Green, who first rose to fame over three decades ago as part of the New Age music duo Runestone, before striking out on his own.
For his latest CD release, which, while island-themed, actually is not too far of a departure from his previous mystical releases, uses guitars, flute, piano, synths & samples and atmospheric effects.
My favorite tracks on this CD are: "Lost In Thought," " A Time To Dream," "Watching Waves," and "Midnight Pearls."
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
TEN STARS!

The Return of Cain

Just finished reading "Zagor - The Return of Cain" by Mauro Boselli and Stefano Andreucci, published by Epicenter Comics in May 2023, which collects the Zagor Comics running from July-September 2000.
The swordsman Cain was last seen in the epic Lovecraftian "Terror From The Sea" saga which saw Cain sacrificing himself to save his comrades from Dagon by plunging his sword deep within the depths of the eldritch god.
A weak and exhausted Cain is washed up on a distant shore and survives 10-days and nights of unspeakable terror for the undead as he builds a raft to escape the island.
Cain eventually is reunited with his beloved Marada who rescues him from slavers, and they set off on her quest to find the lost Scepter of Tinan, the legendary queen of Lost Atlantis.
Meanwhile Zagor, Chico, Digger Bill, and Dembe are on a river in Africa looking for their lost friend Jacques when they are attacked by warriors from a cannibal tribe and once safely(?) on shore, Zagor uses the tactics he refined as the King of Darkwood back in the states to scare away the cannibals.
Cain's and Zagor's paths soon cross, and Zagor is happy to learn that his friend is still alive and join forces with Cain and Marada to cross the desert to find the Scepter of Tinan, which is guarded by the undead.

"The Awakening - Path of Ascension 2"

Just finished listening to "The Awakening - Path of Ascension 2" by Midori, released by Medwyn Goodall Music.
Midori is the non-de-plume for Medwyn Goodall. Now as to why he created his Midori persona, I do not know, except that as Midori, his music style is slightly different then his music under his own name. Goodall was one of, if the not the fist, New Age Music artists to pioneer the concept of sequel/continuation concept albums like his Medicine Woman series, which has seven albums so far i the series.
"The Awakening" is the second album in Midori's/Goodall's planned "Path of Ascension" trilogy.
The theme of the "Path of Ascension" trilogy is that Earth is going through a transitional phase. Currently in the 3rd dimension, in the coming years it is to ascend to the 5th Dimension where the true nature of our planet and the hopes and dreams of its population will be fully realized. He recorded these albums at 432hz pitch - the natural resonant frequency of planet Earth.
My favorite tracks on this album are: "True Destiny," "The Path Continues," "Here and Now," and "A Higher Plain."
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
TEN STARS!

Wise Woman

Just finished listening to "Wise Woman" by Medwyn Goodall, released by MG Music.
"Wise Woman"is the latest release from Medwyn Goodall that I believe is the start of a new music series from one of the masters of New Age Music.
Goodall does credit his wife, Wendy Goodall, for suggesting and inspiring his latest music CD. He has created a moody and mystical musical journey into a vanished ancient world with solo Cello, Lute and atmospheric drums and subtle textures exceptionally crafted to depict a world that draws you in.
My favorite tracks are "Circle of Stone," "Wise Woman," "The Sun & Moon," and "The Great Forest."
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
TEN STARS!

The Sounds of Life - How Digital Technology Is Bringing Us Closer to the Worlds of Animals and Plants

Just finished reading "The Sounds of Life - How Digital Technology Is Bringing Us Closer to the Worlds of Animals and Plants," by Karen Bakker, published by Princeton University Press in 2022.
Bakker, was a Professor at the University of British Columbia, who passed way in 2023. Her primary research interests spanned political economy, political ecology, environmental studies, STS, and digital geographies.
Bakker walks us systematically through the re-discovery of subsonic whale sound, which the Inuit always heard and understood, and the supersonic echolocation sounds, with both of which whales can communicate across oceans. Their capacity for 200 decibel sounds would split our ear drums, perhaps kill us. As she lays out the evidence of many species languages, dialects, and cetacean interspecies communication we discover a whole new world.
The science has begun to understand such a numerous array of species, that the prospect of Google Translate which once required vast translated archives like occur in UN conferences, is now replaced by a completely new AI translator. Now zero-resource translations --never having heard the language before, through multi-dimensional geometric spaces that sense multiple meanings and nuances, can now tackle languages' for which there is no written base and of course like other species languages, that it has never heard before.
This AI system learns like babies do, combining vocalizations with physical gestures and movement, leading to surprising breakthroughs in interspecies communications. Returning to the vast datasets now being assembled for each species, which disclose how these sounds evolved in time and space, supercomputers can both track tens of thousands of bats own signature sounds coming and going, recreating patterns of meaningful behavior and discover dialects. These incredible breakthroughs of course open some weird doors for this day and age of eight billion people. But because it also returns us to indigenous ways of life, reinventing our ability to listen, our ability to understand, to communicate and protect, and to recognize the sentience throughout the rest of our living biome.
Bakker also pointed out how once the "science" behind an idea is accepted, it is hard to convince other scientists of the possibility of new discoveries and what they may imply. Science like any human thought, can and is riddled with prejudiced.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
TEN STARS!

Zagor - Terror From The Sea

Just finished reading "Zagor - Terror From The Sea" by Mauro Boselli and Stefano Andreucci released by Epicenter Comics.
Zagor is an Italian comic book created by editor and writer Sergio Bonelli, the pseudonym for Guido Nolitta, and artist Gallieno Ferri. Zagor was first published In Italy by Sergio Bonelli Editore in 1961.
Epiccenter Comics has been publishing Zagor and Tex graphic novels since 2015.
"Terror From The Sea" originally published from September 1997-to -November 1977 over in Italy.
Zagor's real name is Patrick Wilding, the son of Mike and Betty - who were murdered in front of his eyes. He is a western-Tarzanesque character living in a fictional forest named Darkwood, located in Pennsylvania, north eastern United States.
His name Zagor comes from his Indian name "Za-Gor Te-Nay", whose fictional meaning is "The Spirit with the Hatchet". Though the writers do not mention exact dates, Zagor is supposed to be active during the first half of the 19th century, or around 1825–1830. Zagor fights to maintain peace all over his territory, protecting the Indian tribes and hunting down criminals regardless of their skin color.
Felipe Cayetano Lopez Martinez y Gonzales, "Chico," is Zagor's loyal companion and a comic relief throughout the series. There are elements of Zagor's and Chico's relationship that mirrors the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle.
"Terror From The Sea" picks up a short while after the events chronicled in "Voodoo Vendetta."
Cain, and a bit of his history and back ground is introduced in the intro and then the action goes to Darkwood where Chico receives a dream message from their friend Ramath, who left the message written in the sand to help convince Zagor that he actually talked to Chico.
Ramath requested their help because Port Whale is in danger and there is an ancient evil - Dagon - that is threatening all that lives.
One of the aspects that makes Zagor so popular in comic circles is that his adventures cut across all genres.
Walking to Port Whale, Zagor and Chico cross paths with Cain and in the port city, horrors are soon revealed and if Zagor, Chico, Cain, and their friends are to survive.

Golden Girls - The Laughs Continue

Just saw "Golden Girls - The Laughs Continue" which was staged at the Times-Union Theater here in Jacksonville, Florida.
Now when I first learned that a play based on "The Golden Girls" television show was going to tour the United States, I was hoping that it would come to Jacksonville and that I would have the opportunity to see it performed live on stage. I saw the show Sunday afternoon, and I believe it concludes its run here in Jacksonville tomorrow, just in time to escape Hurricane Milton.
Mom, Dad, Selma Franz, and I greatly enjoyed the original television series, not so much the spin-off "Golden Palace" sequel series.
The play takes place in 2023 and we find that Sophia is out on bail, after being busted by the DEA for running a drug ring for retirees. Blanche and Rose have founded CreakN, a thriving sex app for seniors. And Dorothy is trying to hold it all together, with help from a new, (much) younger sex-crazed lover.
The actors did a brilliant job in capturing the spirit of the show and even poked fun of themselves by stating that they were holograms of the original actors, while incorporating references of all the past shows the original actors had been in, and even incorporating a joke about the Jaguar football team always loosing.
GREAT FUN!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
TEN STARS!
