Micheal Rivers is the pseudonym for Mike Baugham. His Cherokee heritage prompted him to honor his great-grandfather and write under the name of Rivers. He grew up near the Outer Banks of North Carolina. His love of the sea and all it has to offer was the driving force of his first novel  The Black Witch . As a child, he became aware of the supernatural world due to several experiences. A recognized authority as a paranormal investigator with more than thirty years of research, teaching classes and giving speeches provides his readers with some of his experiences woven into his paranormal thrillers. He is the lead investigator for the Smokey Mountain Ghost Trackers.
His works include supernatural thrillers, literary fiction and ghost story anthologies published by Schiffer Publishing. Micheal is a USMC veteran and served during Vietnam. The passions in his life are his wife, family, Boxer Delilah affectionately known as DeeDee, and the great outdoors. Verliege, a chilling paranormal and international crime mystery, begins at Arlette Mansion in the mountains of West Virginia. Prisoner and author Adrian Bolt was transferred there accused of the horrific murder of his wife. She was found brutally murdered by an antique sword. His conviction by a German court was as swift as the sword that killed her. Adrian had not spoken since her death …until… Dr. James Pellitere was able to break his silence.
A deal was offered to Pellitere. Traveling to Germany with a paranormal investigative team they searched for evidence that would clear Adrian and prove him innocent. While at the castle, Pellitere is confronted by the supernatural residents. A battle begins over the secret of the nine and a prophecy is in jeopardy of becoming unfulfilled.

Who's gotta brand new #handbag? and a #newbook? author Maggie Toussaint! #KOD #MFRWorg #RLFblog

Maggie’s got a brand new bag!

Handbag Monday
I’m not one of the women who goes nuts over clothes, but handbags, well, I’m always on the lookout for a good one. The one I have now fits my current needs so perfectly I hope it never gets worn out or destroyed by a leaking pen or a marauding granddog.

The reason I always look for handbags is that the kind I prefer are not plentiful. First, I need a cross-body bag because everything else slides off my shoulders, and I need both hands free for other stuff. I also require a zipper top as I’ve lost several pairs of glasses from them spilling out of purses in restaurants and conferences. To protect the glasses, I have hard shell cases for both the regular glasses and the sunglasses. And then there’s the rest of the stuff that goes in a purse.

So far, everything on my purse check list is for function. With regard to style, I’m less picky, though I am attracted to bright colors. In fact, my favorite colors are red and turquoise, followed by pink and orange. Since I wear those color tops with jeans, I needed something in a purse which was neutral or would go with everything.

I found the perfect bag online, copied the url to my husband, and he snagged it for my birthday. I didn’t realize the canvas fabric was as sturdy or waterproof as it is, but golly, this bag is awesome. I wear it everywhere I go, and it’s so nice having everything I need in a bag that’s just the right size. You won’t find me on a fashion runway because I’m too busy doing other stuff!

Speaking of other stuff, have you checked out my new science fiction release? G-1 is the first book in my Guardian of Earth series.

A scientist unravels the vanishing water mystery at great cost to himself.

Woman in Gold #MFRWorg #RLFblog #art #Klimitpainting

Movie Mom

The paper gave Woman in Gold an average review. However, my newspaper reviewers can be a little harsh. They said it was like a made-for-TV movie, that Ryan Reynolds wasn't that good.

Yeah, Handsome and I blew them off.

Blurb:  Woman in Gold is a  drama, starring  Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, and Daniel Brühl.

The film is based on the true story of the late Maria Altmann, an elderly Jewish woman who fled Nazi Austria with her husband and relocated to Los Angeles. Upon her sister's death, she began wondering about her Austrian life and the painting of her aunt by Gustav Klimt which had been confiscated. With her lawyer, Randy Schoenberg, they took on the Austrian government all the way to the U. S. Supreme Court for the painting's return.

My thoughts: I thought the Woman in Gold was more of a B rating. Helen Mirren is always superb. Ryan Reynold's character seemed stiff and out of sorts; yet he should have been for a young lawyer who struggled in an area of law without having expertise. We see their ups and downs, their joys and victories. And the painting? Gorgeous.

Are you hungry? It's pizza time with author Edith Maxwell #MFRWorg #RWAKissofDeath #cozymystery

Time for Pizza I’m delighted to be a guest on the blog today. Thanks for asking me over, Vicki. My town has a great Flatbreads pizza restaurant, but it’s pretty pricey. We can make just as good pizza at home for a fraction of the cost. And in the kind of winter we’ve been having north of Boston this year, the hot oven helps to heat up the house!
Easy Pizza Preheat oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Use as many local organic ingredients as you can. Ingredients:1 cup warm water1 packet or tablespoon yeast2 ½ to 3 cups of unbleached white flour3 tablespoons olive oil1 teaspoon salt2-3 cups grated mozzarellaGrated Parmesan cheeseTomato sauceDried oreganoToppings as desired, including pitted Kalamata olives, sliced sweet peppers, sliced mushrooms, caramelized onions, ham, fresh basil leaves, crumbled goat cheese, pepperoni or other sausage.
Directions:Sprinkle yeast over warm water in a mixing bowl. Stir it in, and then stir in one cup of flour. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and the salt, and continue to add flour until the dough stands up as a lump.  Flour a countertop or table and turn out the dough, making sure to scrape all the dough off the sides and spoon. Rub the remaining oil all over the inside of the bowl and set aside. Knead the dough, turning a quarter turn each time, until smooth. Lay it in the bowl smooth side down and press with the back of your hand, then turn it over. Cover the bowl and let rise until doubled, about an hour.  Divide into two balls. Oil two pizza pans or large baking sheets. NOTE: You can skip the preceding steps and buy pizza dough at the grocery store. Roll and stretch the dough out on one pan. Spread a thin layer of tomato sauce. Add toppings. Sprinkle with mozzarella. Finish with a grating of Parmesan and a sprinkle of oregano.  Bake for 12-15 minutes, watching carefully that the pizza doesn’t get too brown. Repeat for the second ball of dough. Serve hot, and enjoy your pizza with a green salad and a glass of red wine.

In Farmed and Dangerous, snow is piling up, but murder seems to be the crop in season, and as the suspects gather, a blizzard buries the scene of the crime under a blanket of snow, leaving Cam stranded in the dark with a killer who gives new meaning to the phrase “dead of winter.” Find Edith at: Facebook

Crafting & Creativity go hand in hand: Florence Fois' incredible Hobo bags #MFRWorg #fashion #accessories

Through writing, I've made some friends on line that are incredibly talented. Today, I present Florence Fois! a master crafter. Take it away, Florence!! Handbag Monday What’s in a handbag, a purse, a clutch, a sack? What is it about women and their need to cart various parts and parcels of their life in an oddly shaped accessory? There was a small boutique in Manhattan called simply Azuma, a place you could find odd accessories. One bag caught my fancy, a Hobo bag because it was shaped like the image of the hobo carrying a bit of material dangling off a stick. My bag was made of denim and had a blue floral lining. Long after she had frayed and could no longer carry any weight, I kept her folded in the back of a closet.

Finally, I took her from the dark space in my closet and with nimble fingers, disemboweled her. I flattened the two pieces on large parchment paper and made a pattern and then the fun began.

I started making them. Fashioned from fabric remnants, I sold dozens of them in one venue or another. I have also made hundreds of other types of bags sewn from remnants or crocheted with destashed yarn but none as much fun as my hobo bags.A writer and a crafter, I fashion memories into stories and “stuff” … I recreate my own or someone else’s history. Stored in a trunk or hidden in a closet … a time of my life … a vintage table cloth or a broken hat box … a post card or old black and white photograph.

I have been crafting since the second grade when I decided to make all my Christmas presents. It's been a labor of love since. When the hands are busy, the mind is at peace.
Hobo Bag #1 is a mix of one pair of jeans, two denim dresses, and a blouse. I added the daisy button and the Mickey Mouse iron on patches. The bottom pocket was taken off the jeans and the tiny pocket with the daisy was on the lapel of the dress.  The criss-cross piece was from the second dress and the plaid from a blouse.

Hobo Bag #2 was made from an upholstery remnant, the lining from a half-yard remnant of wool blend. The cording was purchased by the yard at JoAnn’s.

Hobo Bag #3 is made from the same pieces as Hobo Bag #1.

Hobo Bag #4 a great find of toile remnant and a half-yard of green polished cotton, this bag was the easiest of the four to sew and one of my favorite. I took left over remnant and made two throw pillow covers I gave to a friend as a gift.

The bags measure 28” long with a 7” round bottom. Each one has one large inside pocket.

Three years ago, I opened my first shop on Etsy.com and last February, I opened my second shop. They are Finds of The City (now on vacation): Etsy Finds of the City

Raising boys on Bugs Bunny, James Bond, Indiana Jones & Star Wars #cartoon #animation #MFRWorg

The Art of Chuck Jones I always have said I raise #1 and #2 on Bugs, Bond, Indiana, and Star Wars. So as the cultural guide in my family, I found the exhibit “What’s Up, Doc? The Animation Art of Chuck Jones” and determined we had to go. I was enthralled!

Chuck Jones was the genius behind Looney Tune cartoons which featured characters we love: Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner.  After he left Warner Brothers, he did a feature film, The Phantom Tollbooth, the Academy Award winning short The Dot and the Line, and the uber loved holiday special How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Mr. Jones directed more than 300 films, three of which won Academy Awards. From the late 1930s to 1962, he worked on and directed cartoons for the Warner Bros. animation divisions Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies.

The exhibit, What’s Up, Doc? , includes artwork and development work from the classic What’s Opera, Doc?, One Froggy Evening (the cartoon with the darn frog that drove me crazy), and Rabbit Seasoning (it’s the pronoun). One board showed how to draw Bugs by inches and angles. A board from What’s Opera, Doc? Featured Bugs as his regular self next to Bugs as Brunehilde.

There were snippets of recordings by Mel Blanc to listen to (and laugh over). Technical information about how long Wile E. Coyote fell. And Mr. Jones nine disciples for the Coyote: always in the Southwest dessert, no speaking, harm is self-inflicted, devices used are by Acme, etc. My favorite was a piece of the script from Rabbit Seasoning and next to it was the final video with Daffy and the whole “Shoot me now! Shoot me now!” and Bugs nonchalantly standing by.

The #AprilFoolsDay Proposed to twice! #MFRWorg #RLFblog #engaged

I could tell something was coming. Handsome usually did out of town audits and for him to come home in the middle of the week to see me was remarkable. He had asked me to go to the movies and just as we were leaving, a friend stopped by and being the polite people we were, we invited him to go along. We saw "Clash of the Titans," not a good movie in my opinion. So when we returned to my apartment, my friend stayed and stayed and Handsome became a little more uncomfortable. Finally, the friend left and Handsome did as well in a little bit of a huffy way.

I was like "huh." And then the shadow of a thought passed through my head. Did he intend to propose?

I went to bed kinda excited. Sleep eluded me.

The next day he came over and we were watching TV after dinner. He pulled me close and proposed! I said, "Yes!" My whole being bubbled with happiness. After he left, it dawned on me that the date was April 1, April Fool's Day.

Uh-oh. A tiny bit of me wondered if he was pulling my leg. I didn't know for sure. And asking him to clarify was out of my character. Was I or wasn't I?

There really was only one way to definitely know. On April 2, Handsome returned and I fixed dinner. Afterwards, I casually said, "You know yesterday was April Fool's Day?"

The funniest grin shaped his mouth. "Ye-es."

"Did you mean what you asked me yesterday?"

His smile grew bigger. "Mean what?"

"Did you mean to ask me to marry you?"

What felt like a wait of lifetime went by. My insides were jumping up and down.

Handsome took my hand and said, "Will you marry me?"

And for the second time, I said, "Yes."

We have a good family story.

Vicki and Handsome will be sharing champagne and reminiscing about their special April Fool's Day. Find more fun stuff with the adventures of Hattie in Temporarily Employed, available at: http://amzn.to/1w8ln1H/

@BarbaraMonajem couldn't decide which #handbag; so she brought... #accessories #fashion #MFRWorg

Which handbag?Handbag Monday
Bag # 1: The photo doesn’t do it justice (none of my photos do justice to their subjects). It’s cute and shiny and awesome and RED (my favorite color), and I never get a chance to use it. I can’t possibly carry everything I need, even to an evening party, in something so teensy. Nope, not this one.

Bag # 2: I bought this bag to take to a conference. It’s colorful and has sequins on one side, but it’s totally impractical. Put a few books or a kindle in it, and it becomes a lumpy sack. Also, it doesn’t match anything I own. Sigh. Maybe I could use it for my knitting?

Bag # 3 is a Vera Wang – totally out of my usual price range, but it has a snakeskin pattern (I love animal prints) and was reduced from $ 129 to $ 29, so I snapped it up--and I actually used it for a while. It didn’t match anything I wear, but so what? But all that metal (plus the books and/or Kindle) made it too heavy, so…nope. If anyone wants a partly-used Vera Wang, let me know.

Bag # 4: YES! A Baggallini. It’s understated (the leopard print pattern is very faint), durable and practical, has lots of pockets,

Barbara, my MIL loves her Baggallini, too. I've found them very reasonably priced at Marshalls.
Years ago, Andromeda Gibbons lost her belief in both love and magic, and molded herself into a perfect—but perfectly unhappy—lady. Now, when she overhears her haughty fiancé plotting treason, she flees to Lord Fen, the one man she can trust. But taking refuge with Fen proves to mean far more than getting help. Can Andromeda learn to believe in love, magic, and the real Andromeda once again?

author @PhyllisMiddleton found a #greatbargain & is counting lives: Nine Lives, Two Down #fashion, #accessories #shoes #MFRWorg

I know that my good friend, Vicki Batman, loves – and I mean LOVES – handbags.

Handbag Monday
I enjoy them and utilize them for whatever my needs are at any given moment.  Big ones for carrying the kitchen sink.  Little ones to run into the store and back with. I’ve even been known to carry the little one inside the big one. For me it is the size that matters.  But I have to question if Ms. Batman could beat this deal.

I found a little clothing shop downtown Dallas that sells the overstock from the home shopping channels – the two well-known channels.  At one time, they had a large supply of new leather purses – very expensive ones that they were clearing out.  I found this particular beauty and had to have it for the price of $19.99.  I went to the purse maker’s website and found it listed for over $350.00.  Now, that is what I call a deal!

That is a deal, Phyllis. I've been given bags, but that isn't really free. And I've paid as little as $3.00 for vintage ones. Good job!

Police officer Bethany Banks kills a suspect in a shootout and nearly dies from gunshot wounds. Though the shooting was deemed justified, her confidence is shaken. After being threatened by a psychopathic stalker, Beth is forced to leave the department and run for her life.

Former lover, Sgt. Sam DeLuca loves Beth, but thought her perceived threats were caused by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. His skepticism to her claims about a stalker shattered her trust and she left him. When new evidence arises, he realizes he should have believed her.

When fate gives Sam a second chance, he’s is determined to protect the woman he loves. Can he keep Beth safe and catch a murderous stalker before Beth’s time runs out? He’ll risk everything to restore the love they lost – but is it too late?

Are you changing your #handbag to a spring one? author @KathyIvan on a new career #MFRWorg #RLFblog #fashion #accessories

Handbag MondayHi, Vicki, and thanks for having me on your blog. I'm happy you are here! Vicki and I have been friends for a very long time, have been writing buddies forever, and we're fellow Plotting Princesses.  She's definitely the handbag queen.  Me—not so much.  I'll carry around the same purse forever before I'll switch it out for a new one.  Plus I tend to carry a ton of stuff in mine, so they always have to be big.  After all, I have to have my notebook and pen with me all the time. You never know when inspiration will strike.
Oh Kathy! this is a very lovely bag! Good job!!  Spring is in the air, and I love it. Nice cool mornings with a hint of warmth in the afternoons. Watch the trees blossoming with flowers and buds, and the flowerbeds with their riotous colors spilling forth.  Spring always makes me think of new beginnings.

That's what I've had, a new beginning. Three months ago I made a momentous decision to quit the day job and write full time.  Oh, wow, you have no idea the gamut of emotions that race through you when contemplating something so enormous. Yet the biggest one was a sense of renewal. I was starting out fresh, paving a new beginning.  Just like springtime, I was bursting forth with new ideas and growing my fledgling career.  And what a relief it is to watch the seeds (books) that I've planted come to fruition.  Spring is here, and with it new beginnings and new opportunities to blossom and grow.  Personally, I'm going to sprinkle the seeds of my writing, feed and care for it, and watch the words blossom and flower and pour forth, so that I can bring to the readers the best fruits of my labors.  I hope you'll come and tend the seeds with me.

I just released three new books in the New Orleans Connection Series, and I hope you'll check them out. (P.S. Book one in the series is currently FREE!)  Below is the link to my author page on Amazon.  Find Kathy at: AmazonKathy Ivan can be found every day writing with a bottle of water on one side and a scented candle on the other, creating new stories in her New Orleans Connection Series.  Find Kathy at: Website Facebook Twitter
