Handbag and Book with Candi Fox Hi, Candi and welcome to HBW. I can't wait to see the handbag you're sharing.
This bag is a Lock Mini Love Blade Shoulder Bag in Red by Valentino. I came across the bag on Pinterest doing a search for my character Emma from The Killing Chronicle Series. Emma loves high end fashion. She is a former model turned local witch and crime solver. I fell in love with this bag on first site. In some ways I’m like a faerie or for those of you who have ever paper and dice role played, a kender. If it’s shiny. I need to possess it. This purse has lots of fun sparkle. It’s small. Which I love. I don’t carry purses often. When I do it’s either to put lip stick and a compact in or everything.

Handbag and Book
I've had my fair share of retail therapy lately. And most of my interest is aimed at ETSY. I love handbags and find vintage ones there for a great price. Plus, they don't resemble the ones on the market today.
In my latest venture to the marketplace, I found this one:
There's no label. The center part clasps shut and the sides envelope open, revealing pockets where small or flat things can be store. The handles are a classy brass-toned link which loop through a hole and fasten to a tab. Does it remind you of a vintage designer bag? How about a Chanel style. I'm thinking all this is missing is the big "C".
Speaking of classy, how about my romantic comedy short story, "Raving Beauty." Here's a fun snippet:
"You should see a doc."
"But it-it's not that bad—" A passing dog walker's lightly controlled charge accidentally bumped my leg. Pain ricocheted up my body. I slid inside the vehicle. "Maybe...it...is." Ben stepped forward. "I insist. You could have a fracture." Daniel dipped his head at Ben. " Do what he says. He's an orthopedic specialist." "A doctor?" My stare trekked from the manly man on my left to the other. "When did Ben become a foot doctor?" Laughing, Daniel's look journeyed past me to Ben. "I guess when he graduated from med school. He’s on staff at Sommerville Hospital now." My mouth drooped. The inside of my head began swimming in a not-so desirable way. Blindly, I inched into the depths of the seat. Setting my palms along my temples, I covered my eyes to the intensity of the sunlight. Sweat broke on my forehead. Stars crowded my sight. "I feel…awful." Falling half-way out the car, I promptly threw up on my life-long antagonist's nicely polished, brown loafers. Trying not to kill roses and book
Recently, I visited with my aunt. She loves roses and has them planted all over her backyard. All kinds. She was interested in a Seven Sisters variety because she remembers it growing at the farm and I found that for her. She showed me how it the new plant is doing.
We moved to the far side of the yard where she had planted a very large pink rose in a big pot. It had the most magnificent bloom and smelled so delicate, the way a rose should. I asked where she got that and she said, "Mama," meaning my grandmother who had the greenest thumb imaginable. She could put a stick in the ground and it would grow. No lie. My aunt said she had a cutting and would I like it. Sure would! She got out her shovel and loosened the soil. She gave a big pull and out it came. But we were kinda...not so pleased. The root ball wasn't so great. My aunt said take it and if it doesn't grow, she would give me the other one she had rooted.
I do not have the blessed thumb. Two years ago, she gave me a green rose from a cutting off
Grandmother's plant and it passed. I watered and fertilized like I'd been told. Nothing. So I blamed #2 son for not caring for it when I had to travel (okay, that is legitimate, he didn't do the best job) and crawled back to my aunt's house for a second go. That one is living!I'm grateful to Mother Nature for watering my roses this spring. And maybe you can pray for pink rose, too.
Speaking of creativity---

I have always loved Coach bags because they're well made and last forever. The brass never tarnishes. This style has accordion sides, and you can see I make use that feature to stuff the bag to the gills. The top zipper means I don't lose anything out of the opening. There's a long zipper compartment on one interior side for keys and pens and phone, though there are slots on the other side for phone and whatever else you want to carry. I have hand wipes and spot remover packets. With two straps I can wear the purse over my shoulder or across body. The straps are sealed on the edges, and the stitching has never come loose. Failed Beauty Contestant #tiara #romanticcomedy #shortstory
I can hear you laughing way over here. Yes, I’ve been a failed beauty contestant, not once, but twice.
The first time was in high school in a program hosted by my hometown’s fire department. The real reason I entered was the $500 scholarship. I wanted to go to college and $500 would pay for a few semesters of community college. So I entered, wrote the essay, borrowed a black swimsuit, wore a sweet long dress of eyelet.
And didn’t win. In all fairness, I was selected from the 24 original entrants to be in the final top twelve. That part was cool. Picture in the paper! The girl who did get the tiara looked 24 not 17 or 18. She really looked like a beauty contestant.
Sigh.
The second time I was persuaded after a few margaritas to represent a friend’s moped shop in a contest hosted by a recreational vehicle show. I said no a few times. My friends worked on me and I said yes. This was six years after the first one. All I had to do was walk around in a swimsuit and heels which I did. One of the judges was a former NFL quarterback. Pretty embarrassing. The blonde with the cornrows won. She was younger too.All I’m saying here is sometimes, there’s funny stuff in our lives and it makes a great story.

With an old-fashioned teasing comb, she picked my brown hair into place at the crown of my head. The eerie suspicion I resembled a scary dame with Big Texas hair from the television show, Dallas, caused me to avoid looking in the mirror. "Close your eyes." She hit me with super freeze-it hairspray. "Now, that ain't goin' nowhere." My personal stylist needed to work on her aim, preferably with both of her eyes open. I spit-wiped the sticky spot on my right cheek. I hope nobody I know sees me like this. "There." The scrunch of her nose reflected how pleased she was with herself. "Feeling better?" a dilemma
I'm so excited to be attending my niece's wedding at the end of the month. I have my dress picked out--a dusky pink silk sheath. Now, I have to decide on the handbag and you can help!

I'm so excited to be attending my niece's wedding at the end of the month. I have my dress picked out--a dusky pink silk sheath. Now, I have to decide on the handbag and you can help!

I know you're thinking don't you match bag to the shoes. Sometimes, I match to the dress and the shoe comes later.
