Welcome Guest Author Mina Khan! #Djinn #UNICEF #Glveaway

I'm excited to welcome guest author Mina Khan  to the blog today!
See below for her giveaway!
Welcome, Mina!  Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Thanks so much for having me over Laura! Hi, I’m Mina Khan, author of sexy paranormal romance and adventure stories starring djinns (better known as genies). I’m also Rashda Khan, a food columnist for a newspaper, mommy-cake-baker to the kids and @SpiceBites on twitter.
Great! So, tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
My latest release, A Tale of Two Djinns, is a sexy paranormal Romeo & Juliet story with genies, feminists, kickass action & adult fun. Fifty percent of the proceeds are being donated to UNICEF.
Wow, what a wonderful cause! Which character is your favorite and why?
I love my hero Akshay (Shay for short) from A Tale of Two Djinns because he’s a surprising and complex character. He’s a battle axe of a warrior, but not all brawn. He wields swords as easily as breathing, yet he’s into plants & agriculture because it means food for his people, and he believes in true love and soul mates.

Sounds like a great character! As the author, what surprised you about this story?
The villain :)
Oh, evil author! Will there be any sequels or other books in the same series?
While A Tale of Two Djinns isn’t exactly part of a series, it is the second story with djinns and set in my djinn world (my first novella, The Djinn’s Dilemma, is about a djinn assassin who falls for his human target). And I’m working on the next djinn story and have plans for more. Heh, just can’t give up those sexy djinns!
Love it! What was the hardest thing for you about writing this story?
My father died while I was working on the second draft of the story. Of course, I stalled. When I started writing again, the story totally twisted and changed on me, ended up deeper and more complex…more thoughtful. In the end, I wrote a story to true to my heart, and one my parents would be proud to read.
What a wonderful tribute to them, Mina! What are you working on right now?
My third djinn story featuring a fire djinn who loves to cook…and yes, I’m having a lot of fun with him.
That’s cool! Or, maybe, that’s hot! *winks* What happened to the first book you ever wrote?
It’s waiting for yet another revision before being sent back out into the world. I don’t believe in giving up on my stories.
I love that attitude! Have you incorporated actual events or people from your own life into your books?
Lol, most of my heroes are inspired & based on my Bollywood & Hollywood crushes. For ex. Akshay was inspired by Bollywood mancandy Akshay Kumar.
Ooh, very nice! Is there a theme or message that runs through your work?
In A Tale of Two Djinns, I ended up writing about my thoughts on life and death, expectations and duties placed on an individual & the role of women in society. I told you the story turned complex!
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
Um, I am part of the Santa Angela Renaissance Guild and we perform old English country dances for the public. In gorgeous, historically correct outfits.
Fun! Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don’t write romance) do you wish you had written?
J.D. Robb’s In Death series. Love it!
Good pick! Okay now, just for fun:
Milk chocolate or dark chocolate? Dark Chocolate!
Salty or sweet? Salty!
Bed or kitchen table? Both or neither…:P
Beach or mountains? Mountains.
Give or receive? Both.
Akshay, warrior prince of the earth djinns, earns the title of Crown Prince at a high cost when he loses his best friend in a battle against ancient enemies, the water djinns. Heartsick, he escapes to Earth to mourn.
Nothing gets the biological clock ticking (and elders lecturing) like almost dying in battle, so Maya, princess of the water djinns, travels to Earth for some no-strings-attached sex to fulfill her duty and produce an heir. But the beautiful and tough warrior gets more than she bargained for when she meets Shay.
Their not-so-simple one-night stand is interrupted by assassins and the world, as they know it, is changed forever. As Maya and Shay pull together to survive, both are determined to have their happily-ever-after and bring peace to their worlds — warring families, shadow assassins, and nosy busybodies be damned.
Thanks for coming on the blog! Where can we find you on the web?Website| Blog| Facebook | Twitter | Goodreads | Amazon Author Page
If you’re interested to know why I chose to donate to UNICEF, please check out my Karmapost. Thanks!
Excerpt:Patthar had died protecting him, now the water djinns would pay.
Akshay threw back his head and released his anger into the wind. A raw, primal roar ripped out from deep inside, charged from his throat. He called the molewyrms with vengeance.
Thunder roared back in answer. Rain spattered his skin like tears. The ground beneath his feet shook. What started as a faint tremble broke into bone-shuddering quakes. The earth split its seams and spat out mud balls and stone.
The rhaksha lurched in place, eyes wide with fear. Akshay leapt forward, slicing down with his sword.
With an ear-piercing howl, the mountain of ugly fell backward, landed with a wet splat. The air around the creature wavered and reality hiccupped. Instead of an ungainly rhaksha, a most uncommon woman lay in the mud.
A female in the battlefield? What the hell?Breath rushed out of Akshay. He twisted his descending blade at the last second so that it sliced through the fleshy part of her right arm instead of her throat. A muted cry of pain escaped from between her full lips.
Silver armor, like glittering fish scales, covered her head and slim body and, damn, she had legs that just kept going. Double damn, he’d always been a leg man. His gaze jerked back up and met terrified whiskey-colored eyes set in an elfin face of the most delicate blue of a robin’s egg.
Tremors wracked the battlefield as more molewyrms tore out of the ground. One appeared so near that a shower of mud covered Akshay from head to toe. When he’d wiped the grime of his face, the woman had vanished.
Giveaway! One commenter who leaves their email address will win The Djinn’s Dilemma (kindle or Nook format) with some fun swag – shiny genie lamp key chain, signed postcard of A Tale of Two Djinns & a packet of wildflower seeds! U.S. only. Contest open through midnight EST Thursday 4/26. Winner to be chosen by random.org. Good luck!
Thanks so much for reading!

#SixSunday #53 - An offer she can't refuse...

Happy Sunday everyone! Since I'm celebrating the one-year publication anniversary of my award-winning contemporary romance HEARTS IN DARKNESS, I thought I'd share a favorite six sentences from that book. Stuck in the dark elevator for nearly four hours, Caden has just made Makenna an offer she can't refuse...
Makenna’s head grew dizzy from the promise of what Caden was offering. She couldn’t believe she was even considering it, but her body screamed at her for thinking she might turn him down. She nodded her face against his.
“Tell me, Red, you gotta say it out loud. I can’t see your face or your eyes, and I don’t want to make any mistakes here.”
If she’d been just a little unsure a moment ago, she wasn’t any longer.
What was Caden's offer? Well, to find that out, you know what you have to do! Ahem.

#RT2012 in Review: Vampires, JR Ward, Spoons & More!

Hey everyone! I'm back and recovered from the 2012 Romantic Times Convention and had such a great time! I wanted to share some of the highlights with you.
One of the first exciting things to happen at RT was that my Entangled publisher tracked me down to give me a copy of WEST OF WANT! It was the first time I'd seen it in print, and Zeph looks sooooooo good! LOL I also got to see the reformatted print book of NORTH OF NEED, too--and the new mass market trade paperbacks are so beautiful! I can't wait for you all to see them!
I signed at two book fairs at RT. The first was the eBook Expo, which I think is just the coolest idea! You signed a fun swag item for the reader, and they purchased an ebook download of the book! I love that RT supported ebooks that way, and it totally makes sense since so many people read ebooks these days! Go RT! I got to meet so many readers during the fairs--totally loved it!NAME THAT VAMPIRE!

Friday brought the first of two game panels for readers that I was on. NAME THAT VAMPIRE featured me, Caridad Pineiro, Laurie London, Lisa Kessler, Elisabeth Staab and Joyee Flynn. Can I just say how great all these ladies were? We had about 60-70 attendees, which was awesome. We read excerpts of vampire romances and the readers had to shout "I can name that vampire!" If they were right, they won a prize (and we had, like, 40 way cool prizes), and if they were wrong, they had to wear a vampire bite temporary tattoo--which people liked as much as the prizes! LOL
JR Ward & Jessica AndersenOn Friday, I also got to see J.R. WARD! You guys! She is AMAZING and funny and down-to-earth and beautiful and curses like a freaking sailor!!! I could've listened her talk about writing the books and the Brothers themselves for hours! She shared some spoilers, talked about the challenges of writing the series, talked about the scene that most made her cry (when the Brothers tell Tohr Wellsie died--I completely agree, that scene is a 5-hanky alert!), and talked about her writing process (man what I wouldn't give to see into her head!). I didn't think I could love her or the Black Dagger Brotherhood more, but now I totally do. And now that I turned in a manuscript to my editor yesterday, I can finally let myself read Tohr's book! Woot!
Meeting a reader/blogger friend [Day Dreaming Blog]Saturday brought a signing at the Giant Book Fair (where Susanna Kearsley and I bonded again--it was the second time we'd been seated next to each other!--and she's such a cool, fun person!). I met so many people and was thrilled to see people bringing NORTH OF NEED in for me to sign! I also participated in my second reader game panel of the convention--Entangled Publishing's Candy & Spoons party. OMG, have you guys ever played spoons? It's a card game and it's a hoot! There were nearly 150 attendees and there were some fierce players! LOL Spoons were flying, chairs were falling over, and people were laying on top tables fighting for spoons! Entangled gave away the first print books of West of Want (squee!) and had a huge foam board poster of the book's cover made that I got to bring home! (Can I just tell you how freaking good Zeph looks enlarged??? Ahem.) My Spoons Crew! Yes, that's Stefan Salvatore! (and me LOL!)And then, and then, as if all that wasn't good enough, on Sunday morning, just two hours before I had to be to the airport, I got together with a group of friends for breakfast in the hotel restaurant, and who walks in? Paul Wesley who plays Stefan Salvatore on The Vampire Diaries. Seriously? Seriously? I got a real life vampire in addition to J.R. Ward? He was the cherry on top of my RT sundae! LOL
So, I guess you can tell, but I had a blast. I met so many people as well, way too many to list here, but just know I cherished meeting each and every one of you and can't wait to see you again!
Thanks for reading,Laura[image error]

#SixSunday #52 Kate finds her #vampire...

Happy Sunday everyone, and Happy Easter to those who celebrate it! Almost hard to believe I've been posting to this event for a year now! Kudos to Sara Brookes for hosting Six Sentence Sunday and bringing us all together!
This week, I'm giving you one more little taste of Seduced by the Vampire King, Book 2 in my Vampire Warrior Kings series. Heroine Kate Bordessa is walking to the Moscow metro late at night when she makes a discovery:
The first thing Kate saw was a pair of big black boots. The man attached to those boots was huge, unmoving, and facedown in the dirt and stones of the driveway.
Without question, he was the source of the scent she'd somehow smelled.
Her alarm returned, stronger than before. Not out of fear for herself, but out of fear for him.
She had the oddest sensation of being sucked through a tunnel that led her here—to this moment, to this alley, to this man.
Pre-Order on Amazon | Barnes & Noble
Be sure to check out the Other Sixers' Posts and follow the #sixsunday hashtag on Twitter. Also, keep an eye out on April 10th when I launch a HUGE Preview & Prizes Event for my upcoming fantasy romance, West of Want.
Have a great day! Thanks for reading and, hopefully, commenting, too!

A Release Day Q&A with Elisabeth Naughton & Enraptured!

I'm hugely pleased to welcome guest author Elisabeth Naughton to the blog today to celebrate her release day for ENRAPTURED!
Welcome, Elisabeth!  Please share a little about yourself, your genres, any other pen names you use.
Thank so much for having me here, Laura!
For those who don't know me, I write both paranormal and romantic suspense novels. My latest release – ENRAPTURED – is the fourth book in my Eternal Guardians Series based on the descendents of the heroes from Greek mythology. Publisher's Weekly recently named ENRAPTURED as one of the Top Ten Romances of Spring 2012 and gave it a starred review calling it "Naughton's best book yet."
That's so awesome! Congratulations! Tell us a little about your latest or upcoming release.
The Eternal Guardians are seven warriors descended from the seven strongest heroes in all of ancient Greece. They defend both their world—Argolea—and the human realm from threats born of the Underworld—specifically, one evil goddess by the name of Atalanta who was herself once a hero but who made a deal with Hades for immortality and a shot at revenge. Atalanta has but one goal—to see the Guardians destroyed and the realm of Argolea in shambles. She commands an army of daemons—human souls she recruited from purgatory and enlisted in her war in exchange for a second shot at life. These "souls" now have the bodies of men, the heads lions, horns as if from a goat and ears of dogs. In one word, they are disgusting. They're also tough as hell, and it's the guardians' job to track them down, kill them and prevent Atalanta from preying on mortals in her quest to break into Argolea and see it ruined.
ENRAPTURED is Orpheus's book. Orpheus is not one of the Eternal Guardians. He's Gryphon's older brother, and because he was passed over to serve with the guardians, he's had a major chip on his shoulder for years, usually to the point of doing whatever he can to undermine what the guardians do.  In TEMPTED, book three, Gryphon is injured in battle and his soul is sent to the Underworld. Orpheus feels responsible for what happened to Gryphon, and in ENRAPTURED he's trying to find a way to rescue his brother's soul. He doesn't consider himself a hero, doesn't want to be a hero, and doesn't want to serve with the guardians. He just wants to set right a wrong that never should have happened. However, he never imaged he'd be distracted along the way by an attractive Siren—one of Zeus's elite assassins—or that they would have an unexplainable connection that could just change everything about the Eternal Guardians.
Oh, man, I'm loving everything about this! Which character is your favorite and why?
I love all my guardians but I have to admit to having a super soft spot for Orpheus, the hero in ENRAPTURED. He's snarky and sarcastic and his dialogue is always super fun to write. I never planned to write a book for him but as the series developed I realized how important he was and I couldn't not write his story.
Love those kinds of discoveries! As the author, what surprised you about this story?
The depth of the emotion surprised me more than anything. The deeper I got into the story, the more emotional it grew. There are layers to Orpheus I didn't know were there, and it was fun to peel those away and see who he really is underneath.
Man, he sounds fantastic! Will there be any sequels or other books in the same series?
Absolutely. Book five – ENSLAVED – releases in November 2012, and I'm currently starting work on book six.
Woot! What was the hardest thing for you about writing this story?
Remembering what happened before! There are so many characters and so many plot threads, sometimes it's hard for me to remember who did what and when. For that, I have nifty spread sheets telling me who is related to whom and what they did in previous books.
Ah, yes, the challenge of writing a series! I'm just learning that lesson myself! LOL What are you working on right now?
Right now I'm finishing the first in a new series about three djinn brothers imprisoned by an evil sorceress. BOUND TO SEDUCTION, the first book in the series, will release in May 2012.
Whoa! Cool! A new series! What happened to the first book you ever wrote?
Oh, Lordy. It's on a disk somewhere (literally) collecting dust. Never to be seen again.
LOL! What do you find easiest and hardest to write?
Easiest for me are the action/fight scenes. I love those. Hardest? The love scenes, by far. I want to make each one unique and finding a way to do that gets harder with every book. (No pun intended.)
*snort* Have you incorporated actual events or people from your own life into your books?
Mm…hard questions. Not really. I do draw a few things from my own experiences but for the most part the characters are totally unique.
Is there a theme or message that runs through your work?
Most of my books are about redemption. About realizing that no matter who you are or what you've done, you deserve a second chance and a shot at happiness.
What would your readers be surprised to learn about you?
I'm a lot like Orpheus in ENRAPTURED—snarky, sarcastic. Probably why I like him so much.
*grins* Which romance book or series (or other genre, if you don't write romance) do you wish you had written?
Game of Thrones. I'm totally addicted.
Oh, me too, me too! Of all the characters you've ever written, who is your favorite and why?
They're all my favorites! That's like asking which one of my kids I like the best.
So, which one do you like best??? *winks* Okay, now, just for fun:
Salty or sweet? Both. I recently discovered sea salt dark chocolate bars. Mmm…
Beach or mountains? Beach. WARM beach.
Give or receive? Give.
ENRAPTURED BY ELISABETH NAUGHTON – IN STORES APRIL 3, 2012 Buy on Amazon | B&N
Orpheus—To most he's an enigma, a devil-may-care rogue who does whatever he pleases whenever he wants. Now this loose cannon is part of the Eternal Guardians—elite warriors assigned to protect the human realm—whether he likes it or not.
Orpheus has just one goal: to rescue his brother from the Underworld. He's not expecting a woman to get in the way. Especially not a Siren as gorgeous as Skyla. He has no idea she's an assassin sent by Zeus to seduce, entrap, and ultimately destroy him.
Yet Skyla herself might have the most to lose. There's a reason Orpheus feels so familiar to her, a reason her body seems to crave him. Perhaps he's not the man everyone thinks... The truth could reveal a deadly secret as old as the Eternal Guardians themselves.
Thanks for coming on the blog! Where can we find you on the web?
