Kristen Proby Shares a Secret…

So, I’m really excited to help my friend Kristen Proby share a fun secret, in part because it brings us together working on a pretty awesome project. So read on to see her squeeworthy news!

Dear readers,

As you know, the With Me In Seattle Series came to a close earlier this month with the eighth and final installment, FOREVER WITH ME. I’ve been steadfast in my decision that there would be no further stories from the series, no spin-offs, nothing more. In my mind, it was complete.

And I still feel that the Montgomery/Williams families are complete, and I maintain that I’m happy with their happy-ever-afters.

But, I’ve also heard you when you’ve said that Asher, Matt Montgomery’s partner in TIED WITH ME, deserves to have a happily ever after for himself and his daughter Casey. So, when the lovely ladies from 1001 Dark Nights asked me to participate in their wonderful project, I thought long and hard about whose story it should be about. Seattle is finished, and I’ve moved on to New Orleans for the new Boudreaux Series… And then it occurred to me: why not do both, and offer a companion novella to each of the series?

And so, because you, the reader, has been so insistent that you want to see Asher and Casey find their perfect person, I’m excited to introduce you to EASY WITH YOU. I think you’re going to love Asher and Lila’s love story this spring…

It was him. Green Eyes. Ren. That was his name. Now I remembered. I started to step forward, but he beat me to it. Moving as quickly as a damn snake striking, he caught my wrists. He didn’t yank my arms to my sides. All he did was hold my fists away from his face.

A lopsided grin appeared on those full lips. “Can’t say I’m entirely surprised you took a swing at me.”

“Then I guess this won’t surprise you either.” Leaning back, I shifted my weight onto my left leg, but again, Ren outmaneuvered me with a quickness that was sort of embarrassing.

He stepped into what would’ve been a fantastic kick and forced me back against the wall. Then there was nowhere to go, no space whatsoever. My back was against the building, and the entire length of his hard body was pressed against mine.

Son of a bitch.

As if he could read my mind, that grin spread and the dimples played peekaboo. “Now I think we can have a conversation without me ending up bloody.”

I blew out an aggravated breath. “I wouldn’t bet on that not happening.”

He chuckled, and the sound rumbled through me. I couldn’t even remember being this close to a guy since . . . since Shaun. “Look, I’m sorry for snatching you off the street like a kidnapper, but you were about to make yet another huge mistake.”

His apology was lost on me. “Make another mistake?”

“Yeah, like the one last night that ended with you getting shot.” He dipped his chin, and the yellow glow of the light attached to the wall above us glanced off his broad cheekbones. “I know what you were about to do.”

“I didn’t make a mistake last night. I was doing my job,” I spat. “And I doubt your job includes grabbing chicks off the street.”

“That would be a hell of a lot more entertaining, but the moment you thought you could engage that fae last night, you made a mistake. And you were about to do it again, you little ass.”

“Little ass?” I sputtered. “You grabbed me off the street like a serial killer!”

“And I’ve apologized for that even though you should be thanking me. I just saved your life, sweetness.”

Floored, all I could do was stare at him for a moment. “You’re insane.”

“I’m a lot of things, but today I’m your fucking saving grace.”

Avon Authors Holiday Recipe Ring

Laura’s Iced Sugar Cookies

Ingredients for Cookies:

2/3 cup shortening

3/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 egg – beat until light and fluffy

4 teaspoons milk

2 cups sifted flour

1.5 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

INGREDIENTS FOR ICING:

Confectioner (powdered) sugar, milk, vanilla, food coloring – ratio of sugar to milk will vary depending on desired consistency

 

Cream shortening and sugar together thoroughly in medium bowl.

In separate large bowl, stir together vanilla, egg, and milk; sift flour, baking powder, and salt together and then blend in. Add sugared shortening mixture to flour mixture. Mix thoroughly.

Divide dough in half, cover with wet paper towel, and chill for one hour. If dough seems dry when you remove it from refrigerator, you can add a little milk before rolling.

Roll 1/8″ to 1/4″ thick, cut into shapes, bake at 350 degrees for 6-8 minutes. Cool completely and then decorate with icing or sprinkles. Allow icing to dry/harden completely before stacking cookies or they will stick.

Makes 3-5 dozen depending on size of cookie cutters.
