5 Steps to Halloween Costume 2021 – Lily Blaze and News
Welcome to my absolute favorite month of the year – Halloween! And more than that, Halloween costume time!
I have big plans this time. I deeply regretted that I couldn’t do a costume last year. But, with the pandemic and all, it’s no surprise my Halloween plans fell through.
Not this year. 2021 has proven to be my year and I’m living it up. I have a very special costume planned. All will be revealed on the 31st. Stay tuned to this blog or my Facebook page. Bring snacks and your fav horror movie. It’s show time!
Meanwhile, I have the best news. My short script, Understatement, a crime story about one woman who wants to do the right thing while her friend wants to get rid of a dead body, has been picked up by Andres DB. The script will be translated to for a group of Spanish acting students. I’m honored to contribute to culture. Filming starts in November. So get your popcorn ready.
My feature horror script has been polished and it’s ready for the world. I’ve sent queries to a few production companies so far and we’ll see how it goes. One responded, the script isn’t for them although it sounds like a good story, they said. It was a lovely conversation. And that’s fine because I have to…
Shape My Halloween Costume WigI certainly set up a challenge for myself. I looked far and wide for the wig I wanted but everywhere I looked it would’ve cost thousands of dollars. Screw that. So I got a wig that’s the right spooky color and I’m shaping the wig myself.
Costume proved to be more complicated. Several different pieces from different stores to put it all together. My first choice for the top was sold out, but my second choice turned out to be better. It matches my new blue lipstick perfectly.
Last but not least…
Halloween Costume PropThe one I chose is perfect. I couldn’t ask for anything better.
So…
Wig, check.
Makeup, check.
Accessories, check.
Prop, check.
Halloween costume, check.
I’m so excited! It’s a Halloween costume I’ve always wanted to do but never got the chance until now. Looking at everything I’ve collected, it’s beautiful and spooky and wonderful. Cryptic, I know, but I want it to be a surprise. It’ll be worth it. Trust me.

You can view my short script, Understatement, here.
You can also read my horror script here. A script that features a protagonist who lives with disability.
My eternal gratitude to ScriptRevolution for all the fantastic support.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween 2020!
This time, I’m going to offer a different Happy Halloween.
I planned a costume, but the plan fell through. So, I offer you a post to celebrate the spirit of Halloween. But don’t worry, this is still happy 2020 Halloween.
Happy Halloween of the PastI’ve always loved Halloween. It’s not only the spooky thrills for me. The costumes. I love costumes. If I could, I’d happily wear a different costume everyday.
Wait. Let me guess. You’re thinking, if you love costumes that much, go ahead and wear them all the time! Get your freak on!
I used to do exactly that. My freak flag was raised 24/7. Even at work. Oh sure, I’d wear office attire. And my hair was dyed blue. Or purple. Or…whichever color I wanted…that week. But I don’t anymore, not because of social expectations, because it takes a lot of work and energy to keep that freak flag raised.
So, working within my current limits, I plan a fun costume for Halloween night. That’s all I ask. One freaking night.
Twenty-five years ago I looked closer to this.
Everyday, all day.
Now, I do this one night of the year.

Halloween of the PresentMy plan this year was simple. I just thought it would be funny to dress as myself…from twenty-five years ago. I still have all the fashions and accessories, so I figured, why not? Lots of black lace and a leather studded collar. So along the lines of…
I still have two versions of that top. And…
Identical to the collar I still own. Those things last forever. All with makeup. Of course.
Alas, best laid plans and all that.
I cancelled my costume plan because of medical reasons. Sadly ironic considering COVID 19. So, here’s hoping for a better Halloween next year.
Happy Halloween of the FutureSo my Halloween plans this year didn’t work out, but that just gives me another year to prepare.
I still think that my idea to dress as myself is a funny costume.
What do think? Dress as Myself next year or do you have other costume suggestions? I’m always open.

Covid 19 > Screenwriting
It’s interesting to me that all screenwriters have the same concerns about Covid 19, whether they’re disabled or not. What does this mean? What are the rules? How is this going to change film or television? Are we allowed to write screenplays?
A Small Measure of Success During Covid 19I’ve also had the same concerns. I’m just getting started as a screenwriter, one small step at a time. So far, my feature length script, The Edge of Infinity, won Prisma Independent Film Awards Finalist and Madras Awards Best Women Writer. You see all the details on my ScriptRevolution profile page.
That doesn’t mean a movie is going to be made right now, but it’s a good start. The idea of being stopped dead cold when I’m just getting started due to a worldwide pandemic is awful. Covid 19, you bastard.
What are the Covid 19 Rules? So, like always, researched like crazy on the internet and looked for an answer for, what does this mean for screenwriters?
There are, always have been, and continue to be, a lot of articles claiming this is what you have to do. Follow this exact formula and step by step instructions. I’m not going to post links to any of those articles because, frankly, I think they’re all bullshit. I read them anyway. Sometimes there’s a useful, albeit tiny, nugget of information buried somewhere in the articles. I take what I can get, throw out the rest.
Eventually, I came across a website that has PDFs for every country in the world with a filming industry. All the new regulations because of Covid 19. I can only read English and French, so I didn’t read all of them, but from I read, very little will change. It’s all common sense stuff. A check for all employees, if they’re had any symptoms or exposure. Wash your hands. Maintain a distance of two metres. Well, it’s two metres in Canada and the UK, that much I can confirm.
More importantly, these regulations are for everyone behind the camera. I’m not writing for behind the camera. I’m writing for what’s in front of the camera.
Covid 19 regulations for any filming doesn’t affect me or my screenwriting.
Contained ScriptsNow, having said all of that, I have read many articles that claim a contained script, as in a story that has a max of two location and a small human cast, is compatible with current Covid 19 regulations. I have not, however, seen anything that says contained scripts are mandatory, simply that it can help. Scripts with multiple locations can still be filmed. The crew behind the camera will just have to wash their hands more, that’s all.
But, but, what are the rules?!Way back in 2006, after experimenting with creative writing for a couple of years, I reached a point where I had all this information in my head about writing. Techniques, grammar styles, types of plots, character development, etc, etc. Information overload! What do I do with all this information? What are the rules? Ironic that same question exists now, fourteen years later, as it did back then.
I took a deep breath and realized the answer to that question is still the same.
What are the rules? Whatever the hell I want them to be.

Art and Writing Updates | Spring Cleaning My Way
A lot of work finished. Here’s where I’m at with my art and writing
ArtPleased that one of my art pieces, Cell, was selected for the Polar Borealis cover, issue 13.
Cell is from a series of prisma art that focuses on monochrome colors. Mostly black and white with a one other color here and there. I’m very pleased that Cell looks even better as a magazine cover.
View the issue here.
View the original on my art page here.
WritingIn Polar Borealis issue 14, coming in April (ish), there will be one of my short stories, Bethell’s Angel, a dark Victorian supernatural spooky tale.
ScreenwritingI finished my first feature length script a couple of moths ago. I’ve been proofing and editing and getting second opinions ever since. I’m about to launch into the terrifying murky waters of feature length submissions. Wish my luck!
Wait, what? I hear everyone scream. What’s it about? A dark psychedelic drama, experimental, and a wild yet fun ride into madness. I hope everyone loves it as much as I do.
I’ve decided to not upload the script online for now, pending other news as it happens. But you can view the details about he story here.
