Finding help in unexpected places
The thought of publishing my first novel and becoming an Indie Author was simply daunting.
For many months I was focused on finishing my historical romance novel, then self-editing, finding a company that supported self-publishing, and finally I got there.
The book was launched. A fantastic launch in my opinion (although I might be just a little biased ;) )
Now what? There are so many things that you need to do as a self-published author and here are my top four things I hadn't thought about:
1) Distribution and getting physical copies out into the market
2) Audio Book
3) Marketing and advertising
4) Social media (I am listing this separately as this is a beast! A fantastic magical beast that you need to build muscles that you never knew you had to navigate it - the booktokkers and the bookstagrammers community is huge and awe-inspiring!)
Help came in amazing and unexpected ways, through a fellow author Arini Vlotman, Cheryl Uys, the ROSA community .... just hang in there my fellow authors and soon to be authors, follow your dreams and in a world where everyone wants to make their dreams come true, be kind, be selfless - help people and aspiring authors .... all that good can only come back to you a million-fold.
Thank you to all those who have helped me on my journey so far!

Getting ready for a ball
Ahead of my book launch for the "Journey of Love" book one in my new historical romance series "The Hexagons", I feel like I am back in time, my belly flutters and I get a little bit flushed at the thought of those who will be attending.
Now that the physical books have finally arrived, I feel even more stressed out about the launch. This has just become a reality.
I love my characters James and Lizzy and loved writing about them and their romance story, I feel very much like Lizzy did as she prepared for her very first ball with Eva (the main character in book 2 "Love Changes Everything").
I have the dress.... check (invitation only launch with dress code being formal, 1750's British or glamorous Indian). I have opted for glamorous India with firm advice from Seema!
I have the venue - check - I have the welcome cocktails and champagne - check, check and check. Food - check, music by my friend Roedi - check, singing by sister Savitri - check.
A special thanks goes out to my family (Mum, Roche, Shams, UK) and friends (Kam, Nicky, Nikki, Merissa, Lizelle) and those that I have forgotten to name - I apologise in advance, Thank you for all your support without you, nothing in life is possible and a special call out to Willow Trading and Cheryl, who came into my life when I needed her the most!
I am so happy to share my world with you! I hope that by reading my books you get transported to that period in time and you can relax and enjoy the journey, the adventure that comes from your imagination through the details in the book!
Happy reading, looking forward to hearing from you!

I am not a Sailor, but pretend that I could be...
I am not a sailor, but I find myself pondering the incredible contrast between my current experience aboard the MSC Splendida and the challenges faced by sailors in the 18th Century and before. As I lay on my comfortable bed within the luxurious confines of this magnificent cruise ship listening to the waves outside my balcony, the sheer size and modern construction of the Splendida make it hard to believe that such marvels of engineering exist. The ship seems to glide effortlessly through the water, its sleek form slicing through the waves.
However, despite the ship's grace, I can't help but feel every subtle sway and gentle back-and-forth motion. It's as if the sea is playing a soothing lullaby, but my tummy churns, and there's a faint fuzziness in my head that cant be ignored. I can only imagine how different and challenging life at sea must have been for those intrepid sailors of centuries past.
In the 18th Century and earlier, sailors embarked on perilous voyages aboard wooden ships, navigating the vast oceans without the comforts and stability I now enjoy. They braved unpredictable weather, treacherous waters, and the constant threat of piracy. Seasickness, a malady I'm currently starting to battling, must have been a common affliction among those brave souls.
I can't help but marvel at their courage and resilience, facing the unknown with determination and a sense of adventure. As I recline here in modern luxury, I'm reminded of the remarkable contrast between then and now, and I find a newfound appreciation for the hardships endured by those who sailed the seas in bygone eras.
In my book "The Journey of Love" I describe the voyage that Lizzy and James took from India to London, and they were both steady sailors, the glorious waves of the vast ocean did not impact these characters in the least. They even survived a sea battle!
I might come out the end of this amazing trip with my esophagus and stomach still in my body... motion sickness tabs might help!
Waving to you all from the MSC Splendida sailing on the Indian Ocean :)

The spice of life
Today, while I lovingly prepared a mouthwatering lamb curry for my family, paying special attention to my stolen son (my nephew but that is a story I'll save for another time), the tantalizing scents of spices transported me to a different era – a reminiscent journey back to 18th-century Bombay, now known as Mumbai. (As I describe it in my book "Journey of Love")
In my mind's eye, I could envision the colonial architecture gracing Bombay's streets and the vibrant hustle and bustle of its markets. It was as if I could feel the echoes of long-forgotten trade routes carried by the spice-laden sea breeze, promising adventures and opportunities. The vivid imagery of exotic silks, fragrant spices, and precious gems changing hands in bustling bazaars painted a picture of opulence and mystique.
India, a land of astounding beauty and complexity, reveals its true essence to those with open hearts and open minds. It's a place where the rich tapestry of culture and history intertwines seamlessly, leaving an indelible mark on the soul.
In my book, "The Journey of Love," I delve into the experiences of James, one of the main characters, and his friend Nicolas as they immerse themselves in the sights and sounds of Bombay. India has a unique way of embedding itself in one's soul, and despite having visited only twice in my lifetime, I can attest to the profound connection it forms with those fortunate enough to experience its magic.

18th Century Traffic vs 21st Century Traffic
In the charming countryside of 18th-century England, we could have witnessed a scene of unparalleled beauty and tranquillity when traveling along the winding roads. Instead of the hustle and bustle of modern traffic, I imagined that the pathways were adorned with horse-drawn carriages gently making their way through picturesque landscapes.
As the sun cast its golden rays upon the rolling hills and meadows, the rhythmic clatter of hooves upon cobblestone roads echoed like a soothing melody. Each passing carriage seemed like a piece of art, with elegant horses adorned in fine harnesses, pulling their precious cargo of passengers through the enchanting countryside.
Occasionally, travellers would pause to admire the vibrant wildflowers swaying in the gentle breeze, their fragrance filling the air with a sweet perfume. Lovers, hand in hand, found solace in the unhurried pace of their journey, whispering sweet nothings under the shade of ancient oak trees that lined the path.
Far from the stress and congestion of modern traffic, these moments on the 18th-century English roads were a symphony of simplicity and romance, where time seemed to slow down, allowing the beauty of the world to be savoured with every turn of the wheel.
Right? This is what traffic should be!!

The moss covered stones spoke to me
My initial encounter with the ruins of a castle occurred during my visit to enchanting, magical Ireland in the early 2000s. I can vividly recall the moment I gently laid my hand on the chilly, damp, moss-covered stone, and a peculiar sensation washed over me. It was as though the very stone itself harboured the echoes of bygone eras, and in the whispering breeze that brushed past me, there was a subtle plea, urging me to delve into the lives of those who had walked these ancient grounds before.
With that single touch, a profound connection was established, and I found myself transported back in time, immersed in the hopes and dreams of generations long past, as well as the profound sense of loss and sorrow they had endured. My heart ached as I grieved for all that had been lost to the relentless march of time. The castle's ruins became more than just a historical relic; they were a portal to the collective human experience, a tangible link to our shared history, and an invitation to bear witness to the stories etched into the very stones that crumbled beneath my fingers.
I knew that one of my books needed me to be in Ireland, I needed to be in Ireland, and within the pages of the fifth instalment of The Hexagon Series, titled "Gypsy Love," readers will embark on a captivating and enchanting romantic odyssey.
