NaNoWriMo Day 25 – I’m out

This wasn’t my year I guess. Too much on my plate going in, and not enough time or energy to get it done. Truth be told, I gave up somewhere around a week ago. Between Christmas prep, Baby Prep, and Manuscript Prep, and I didn’t have the ability to focus on writing. I almost foresee next month being prime writing time because by then gifts will have been mailed out to family, I will be prepared for my first child’s arrival, and have (hopefully) will be sending my 4th book out into the world. We shall see.

I hope all other Wrimo’s are doing well, and see it through to the end. Best of luck!

NaNoWriMo Day 15 – Oh Crap

So I was doing pretty good. I had my word count on par, I had no worries about finishing on time. And then I got slack.

And by slack I mean I haven’t written anything since Sunday.

So today, when I’m supposed to be at 25000, I’m… Not. Guess what I’ll be doing today.

I don’t have good reasons as to why I fell behind. I’ve had a couple of “tired” days, chose to edit over writing, and found myself slacking after dinner every night. I’m not making excuses, I know full well what I’m doing when I don’t do anything.

How’s your NaNo going?

Ha! Take that NaNoWriMo!

Day seven, and I’m back in the game! It tried to pull me under, drown me, take me out, but I fought back. So I smugly sit and enjoy a cookie and a tea, thinking that, now that I’m back on track I will stay there. Here’s hoping.

So how did I get out of the big, scary jungle?

I spent all day yesterday (and by all day I mean from when I woke up to about five o’clock) writing in an effort to catch up and make my project a little better than my half assed attempts in getting my word counts. I’ve caught up, and gave myself almost a full day’s worth in buffer in case I miss a day. I’ll admit I slacked off a little bit at lunch time, but only a bit. I did some plotting so I at least have a little more in the story line department.

How is your NaNoing going?

Day five of NaNoWriMo and already I’m sinking.

HELP! I’m sinking!

Day five and I’m not only behind on my word count, but I also had an epiphany for my novel that I should have had weeks ago (and thought I did. My bad). It’s that kind of “AH HA!” moment in plotting that you just know what your story is going to be about. Luckily, the crap I started writing beforehand can still be salvaged, but it wasn’t a whole lot of words anyway.

Still, I foresee myself taking a day (or three) being dedicated to writing. Not today, though. No, today I get to sit in a waiting room with a notebook to try to write. Or at least make a copious amount of notes.

Yep, NaNo has me deep in the water this year.

How are you doing with yours?

November 1, 2012

Oh crap, it’s NaNoWriMo time.

I know, I was excited for it before. Now, though, I feel very unprepared. I was sick not once but twice during October with barely a week between colds. Sure, a cold is nothing, and it shouldn’t have held me back. But I can’t take anything for it, and naturally getting over something is extra tiring (especially when caffeine is also out). So my editing fell way behind and I still have 10 chapters to do hard edits, then put all the changes of all 38 chapters into the digital file, and then edits round 3. Plus I need to do my 1667 words a day.

So I’m pretty sure NaNo is going to kick my butt this year. With more doctor’s appointments this month, and needing to have all my Christmas gifts/cards ready for mailing at the end of the month (thanks to my inability to travel starting in a week), November is already a busy month for me. Add the challenge on top of it all, and I think I’m going to have to take all of December off just to recoup.

But this may be my last year for NaNo, at least for a couple. I liked doing it last year, and I”m sure I’ll have fun again this go around. I just need to schedule well (excuse me while I laugh).

What challenges are you facing this NaNoWriMo?

Six Sentence Sunday – Oct 28

It’s the last Sunday before Halloween, so this Six Sentence Sunday is themed for me! Are others participating in this concept? I don’t know, why don’t you check out other blogs by clicking HERE.

Today I’m going back to Unscripted Transformations because there’s a chapter in there that takes place on the spooky day! It’s after Isla catches her boyfriend, Max, with their friend. Earlier in that evening she was grappling with how to decline the supposed proposal she was told was coming. But she broke up with him before it ever happened. Why am I telling you this? So you can get the bit about the Halloween costume.

Alright, enough of my rambling. Here is the excerpt:

It’s tradition that people in the head office work in the cafes for a day, preferably on a day where they can be in crazy costumes to make up for any screw ups that might happen. After all, how can you not smile when your coffee is being made by a man in a cowboy suit?

Mom is always in charge of our costumes, she likes to think that, even though Greg and I are adults, we can’t pick a costume ourselves. So I was woken up early this morning to be presented with my outfit for the day. I requested a zombie bride with a knife in my back. I got Greek goddess, complete with instructions on how I should style my hair, and a pair of expensive looking gold Grecian sandals.

Six Sentence Sunday – Oct 21

Wow, I almost forgot about this again. It happens though, I’m sure.

It’s time for another Six Sentence Sunday! Don’t forget to check out the other awesome writers/authors by clicking here.

This week I’m sampling from An Altered Ending. It’s an e-mail written to the main character from someone who meant the world to her… six years ago (Ooo, I have a theme here. Haha).

Ellen,

It’s been a while, and I hope you’re doing well.

There is something that has come up, and I would like to discuss it with you, preferably in person. I’ll be waiting at the Greta’s Café on the corner of fourth and ninth, between nine and ten this morning, and again between five and six this evening. If you want to meet another day, I’ll be happy to arrange it.

I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Professor S. M. Avery

What could he want to discuss?

That’s it for this week.

NaNoWriMo – It sneaks up on you

I remember it wasn’t all that long ago I was wondering why it wasn’t November already. Then I accepted that I’d have to wait, procrastinated a little, did a little editing (Wishing I had the energy to do more), thought of NaNo on occasion, but mostly “forgot” about it.

Well, today is two weeks away from the start of the challenge. I still have a ton of editing to do, and I also planned on doing a re-write & edit for last year’s NaNo work. How did this happen? I was going to be all set and ready to go! And now, well… I’m still tired. I’m not going to get over that. And I can’t use coffee to get me through this year’s round. So it looks like my challenge for November will still be working on multiple projects, but this year it won’t involve writing two novels (like last year. Such a bad idea).

What challenges are you going to have to deal with in two weeks? Or are you ready to go and are bouncing in your chair with anticipation?

Six Sentence Sunday – Oct 14

Tis another week! And I at least managed to post once since last Six Sentence Sunday. So that’s a plus side.

Anyway, as always, check out some of the other authors who participate in this awesome micro sampling. Do so by clicking HERE.

This week I’m featuring a few sentences from Heart Pulled to Pieces. The last time I featured this we peeked in on Andi’s story she just woke up from a night with Rob (who is known to be a bit of a man whore). In the quick bit for this week it’s been a little bit since this happened, and Andi and Rob have gotten together again much to the dismay of a former fling of Rob’s Nikki. She’s convinced that she and Rob are meant to be together, and his time with Andi is just a phase.

“So where did you two go off to Friday night?” Nikki asked us bitterly as we regrouped Monday at lunch time. Rob sat down beside me, putting his arm around my shoulders.

“Out to a Scrabble match.” Rob replied sarcastically, smirking as he did so. Beth out right laughed, and I couldn’t help but join her.

And there you go. I wonder what they were really doing Friday night? ;)

Turkey Day.

In my neck of the world it’s Thanksgiving. And while this day isn’t a huge celebration for us Canadians (or at least with those I know), it is a day where families traditionally let a chicken live and eat another kind of poultry. Be it on the actual day, or the Sunday before, just about everyone eats turkey. And I am no exception.

But my reasoning is a little more humorous than simply because it’s tradition. You see, I don’t really like Turkey. It’s kinda gross. And dry. And just not something I really enjoy eating once let alone repeatedly until the left overs are done. But I still eat it. Wanna know why? Revenge.

When I was younger, up until I’m gonna guess around 5, my Grampy raised turkeys on his farm. And they weren’t always caged. I have a few memories of these big, scary beasts that terrified me as a child. The way they stalked you as you emerged from the vehicle (if you could emerge at all depending on how close you were). I may have thought these to be the amped up memories of a younger me if it weren’t for the fact that my mom also remembers every time turkey is served how that beasts chased you around, looking to peck at you first chance they got. Mind you, I still think of these turkeys as the size of ostriches, so I know my memories are a little skewed, but not entirely.

So each year on Turkey day (and again on Christmas Day), I sit down and eat one thing I really don’t like but don’t mind. Because somewhere out there a turkey may be chasing a terrorized child. And although that child may not realize that today is a day to not only be thankful for the blessings and good fortune life has brought you, it’s also a day to get back at the menacing bird who follows you around.

The face of pure evil.
