Entertaining Our Granddogs

Two of our granddogs came to pay us a visit. They are accompanied by my daughter Cynthia. The dogs names are Desi and Lucy. Very original huh? We are enjoying them immensely. They each have such unique personalities. Lucy (on top of the couch in the photo) is a Bichon Frise'. Desi (the male) is a Shiteu/Maltese/Poodle. [...]

New Website Helps New Authors

Writing a book? http://TheAuthorsAlly.com makes self-publishing easy for new and experienced authors. The old publishing industry is being turned on its head due to the Internet – just like the music and movie rental industries were. Couple that with the growing unemployment today, and you have publishers simply overwhelmed with manuscripts everyone is submitting now [...]

A Husband And Grandson To Be Proud Of

With the airwaves filled with the news that over 46 million Americans are now on food stamps, the claim is made that there aren't any jobs out there. In many cases that is true, but many times people are unemployed because they don't want to do a menial type job. I'm reminded that the year my husband [...]

Never Trust Anyone Who Can’t Laugh At Himself

A number of years ago Elliott and I were on our way to a convention in Las Vegas. Leaving Dallas later than intended, and already worn out and groggy from a very stressful day, it was well past dark as we drove through Fort Worth. It was our intention to stay with Elliott’s brother Bob and family in Midland, Texas.  Sometime around [...]

Children And Good Eggs

Last Sunday afternoon, shortly after returning from church, two little neighbor boys appeared at our front door. The little four-year-old, using both arms for support, held a carton of fresh eggs from their hens. My husband, Elliott, invited them in to present the eggs to me. I  squealed,  gave each a big hug, and thanked them profusely. Leaving, [...]

Thoughts on The Oscars

On Sunday I recorded the Oscar ceremonies so I could watch it later. It struck me that this is just the latest (albeit the most publicized) of these 'self aggrandizing, self congratulating' episodes. I watch mainly to see who won the best actor, best actress awards, and to see the beautiful designer gowns. Many of the women, or so it [...]

The Taco Tradition

When our daughters were in jr. high school and high school in Fort Worth, Texas, we became a magnet for a growing number of young men. Invariably, they would descend upon us every Sunday just as we were starting our after church meal. That's when I knew I had to find a way to fill [...]

Who's The Fool

The other day I read something that caused me to cringe. I feel compelled to offer my reaction to this, and let you form your own opinion. The writer of this off-putting piece quoted someone as saying that a certain brilliant individual "does not suffer fools gladly." While this particular bit of 'praise' was being heaped on [...]

Romance Deux

On one occasion, I was doing a book signing in a rural community of about 48,000. Arriving early, my husband and I had an opportunity for an informal talk with the woman who owned the store. She had a very unusual story to tell us. A couple of months earlier, a middle-aged man had come in and [...]
