Brandon Sanderson: Elantris
Brandon Sanderson is one of the hottest names in fantasy at the moment. Like many folk, I first heard of Sanderson when I learnt he had been chosen to finish Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, and while I've never been a fan of Jordan's novels, I was intrigued that so much praise was being lavished on what was still a relative newcomer to the genre.
Sanderson is a remarkably prolific writer. Since his debut novel in 2005, Elantris, he has published some t...

AGGER
It was a strange mixture of solemnity and celebration, as all Vist funerals were. An enormous pyre had been reared before the Great Hall of Mikilheim, a pyre larger than any of the men and women looking on could remember...

Wars is Free!
In anticipation of the release of The Wrath of Kings and Princes this week, I am giving my first novel away for free through Smashwords (which may mean it'll become free on Amazon and BN sometime in the future if their search bots pick it up).
Anyhow, the novel will remain free through the end of May at least, so if you're wondering about delving into the schemes and machinations behind the throne of Osland, there has never been a more risk-free moment to do so.

Annotations page
This is a quick post to announce that I have set up a new page on the website to provide some behind-the-scenes information on the books as I write them. The Notes page will grow as I fill in the story of how my novels came into being. Currently, I have only begun notes on The Wars of Gods and Men, but with the release of The Wrath of Kings and Princes on the horizon next week, I shall begin annotating that one as well.
Credit where it's due, I got the idea from fantasy author Brandon...

The Wars of Gods and Menby W. Brondt Kamffer
An excerpted chapter from the middle of the book giving a taste for the magic system. Idonea is possessed by a plurality of gods, whereas Cenred is the sage (the prophet or mouthpiece) of the God Eom. For an extended excerpt from the start of the novel, click here.
Idonea stepped away from the silver mirror with a smirk on her face. So, Ayern has found himself a guardian in his distress, she thought derisively.
—Yes, but he will not be safe...

Two links that have nothing to do with each other
I want to share two separate blog posts I came across this week that I thought were good, motivating, enlightening, whatever.
I don't like to give advice, especially not to strangers (which at the moment includes just about everyone who visits this website). I am not arrogant enough to think that I have anything of value to add to the conversation. Everything I think and feel has already been said, if not better by someone else at least by someone else with more experience and/or authority.

Largo Winch: Comics
Not many people know that I love comic books–graphic novels, to be more precise. I seem such a literary guy that people just assume I think the 9th Art is beneath me. Well, it ain't. However, when I say "comic book" I am not talking about Batman, Superman, Spiderman, et al. I am talking European comics. Specifically, Franco-Belgian comics. I grew up on these, the adventures of Asterix in particular, and I always preferred the more intelligent story lines of these graphic novels to the...
