Est-on capable de reconnaître un auteur en lisant seulement quelques lignes, quelques vers, illuminer son visage d’une conclusion holmésienne : ” Mais bien sûr, c’est lui ! ” ? Si un auteur écrivait sous pseudonyme ou sous le patronyme d’un autre auteur, saurait-on déceler sa verve, son style, son rythme ?

Sous le regard de son chat Félicien, ce sont toutes les certitudes d’un écrivain qui vont être mises à mal lorsque cinq correspondants le harcèlent par mail.

Le premier, un “admirateur secret”, requiert ses services pour écrire un roman. Mais ici point de conseils d’écriture. Il lui demande tout simplement d’écrire un roman dont il s’attribuerait la paternité. Si le métier de ghost-writer existe depuis des siècles, visiblement cet écrivain-là n’envisageait pas d’emprunter cette branche un jour. A peine le temps de répondre que le tintinnabulement des sonneries annonçant l’arrivée de nouveaux mails se fait entendre. “Hautemer”, écrivain narcissique et jaloux, le harcèle sur la question du pseudonyme en littérature. “Banana”, qui lui envoie tous les mercredis le récit de ses rêves de la veille qui, pensent-elle, forment la trame d’un roman en devenir, le sollicite pour en écrire le chapitre final qui relierait ces éléments disparates entre eux et formerait un tout sensé.” P-0″, habitué à écrire des pastiches des nouvelles de l’écrivain le presse d’en produire d’autres pour continuer à alimenter sa source d’écriture. Enfin, “Pandora”, une voisine âgée, implore de pouvoir lire à son chien mourant un roman dont il serait le héros, roman rédigé de la main de… vous devinez qui…

Vexé, énervé, furieux, l’écrivain sent un complot se former contre lui. Les réponses, au départ, pleine de diplomatie deviennent vite plus sèches, quand il ne tente pas de faire taire le correspondant en omettant de lui répondre. C’est sans compter sur l’acharnement de ces entités mystérieuses.

Roman étrange possédant toutes les qualités pour séduire : un chat et de la littérature. On s’interroge avec l’écrivain sur ce qui constitue la paternité d’une oeuvre. Zoran Živkovic, auteur serbe, prend le parti de l’humour pour aborder ce thème séculaire, et le lecteur ne peut en sortir que satisfait, lui au moins, sait qui il est !

L’écrivain dont il est question ici a eu la plus mauvaise des idées : signaler l’arrivée d’un nouveau mail par un signal retentissant, un « gong » des plus sonores qui le sort de ses pensées et le force à consulter ledit message toute affaire cessante. Mais quand un jour cinq correspondants, tous plus insupportables les uns que les autres, se mettent à inonder notre auteur de demandes improbables, on ne peut que se demander s’ils se sont donné le mot ou si un vaste complot a été mis en place pour empêcher le malheureux de travailler. Entre cet admirateur anonyme qui souhaite qu’il lui cède la paternité d’un texte, Hautemer qui lui demande d’écrire une parodie de ses propres œuvres, Banana qui lui envoie le compte rendu de ses rêves du mardi, P. O. qui écrit des pastiches de ses nouvelles et Pandore qui voudrait qu’il lui écrive un roman sur son chien mourant, l’écrivain, ne sait plus où donner de la tête ! Comment se sortira-t-il de ce traquenard ? Et qui sont tous ces fâcheux ? Voici un roman foisonnant, dont le rythme effréné et l’incroyable richesse laissent haletant et bouche bée. Un condensé d’humour et de bizarreries qui ravira le lecteur !

Zoran Živković in Montenegro

On December 10th Zoran Živković had two public appearances in Montenegro. At the Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšić, he was talking about his experiences as a professor of the creative writing. In the evening, in the Library of the “Matica srpska” in Podgorica, he was presenting his stories. Both events were hosted by professor Goran Radonjić.

Zoran Živković at the BookCity in Milan

For the occasion of the appearance of his new book in Italy – The Grand Manuscript published by the TEA — Zoran Živković participated in the prestigious manifestation the BookCity which took place on November 21-24th in Milan. The Grand Manuscript — the sequel to The Last Book, which was sold in Italy in over 20,000 copies — is prominently displayed in all the major bookstores. Here is a photo report:

ZoranFrames

The Portuguese publisher Cavalo de ferro, in collaboration with the eminent Lisbon festival Forúm Fantástico and with the participation of the Sony, Xerox and Biblioteca Municipal de Orlando Ribeiro, organized an international competition, ZoranFrames, for the best photography inspired by one of the four Zoran Živković’s books published so far in Portugal: The Library, The Last Book, The Ghostwriter and Seven Touches of Music.

The three winners of the ZoranFrames competition were announced on Saturday, November 17th, the second day of the 2013 edition of the Forúm Fantástico. Here they are:

Breaking news from Portugal

The Lisbon based Cavalo de ferro publisher acquired the Portuguese language rights in Zoran Zivkovic’s latest novel The Grand Manuscript for a publication in 2014. Cavalo de ferro already brought out four Zivkovic’s books: The Library (two editions), The Last Book, The Ghostwriter and Seven Touches of Music.
