Open Letter: Stop Killing of Stray Dogs in Sochi!
Open Letter:
It is with a heavy heart that I sign this petition. I am originally from Russia and I wish my country all the very best. I was very happy that Russia was chosen to hold the Olympics in Sochi after all the hardships, disappointments and heartbreak the country had gone through after the breakup of the USSR. It is a well deserved honor and the sign of recovery, as well as the sign of great things to come. I was, and am, very happy for Russia.
However, as an animal advocate, I cannot sit idle when there are reports of innocent stray dog killings in Sochi!
I understand that the situation became an epidemic and that it was the consequence of the hungry and disorderly 1990s, when humans didn’t have enought to eat themselves, forget sharing with animals. Unfortunately, the first victims of any human’s, or any country’s, instability and hardship always become innocent animals!
I also understand that the orginizers had to do something while they were busy accomplishing the monumental Olympic project of building 11 Olympic venues, roads, airport, port, train station and the entire city in the short 7 years – practically from scratch. However, this inhumane “time saving” method is not what I would have had in mind….
That said, I have received many reports of local citizens opposing this practice and of locals HIDING STRAY DOGS in their homes to save them!
I strongly support this petiton and I hope that Sochi and Russian authorities, as well as the Russian people, address the problem as soon as possible in a humane way! Russia needs more animal shelters and adoption programs asap! Dogs can be wonderful companions and it is not their fault that they were forced to lead a life on the streets! With many successful wild animal conservation porgrams in Russia and with its compassionate population, I am sure this grave injustice can be corrected as well!
In conclusion, I must point out that humans at large are the biggest and most feared predators on Planet Earth. We have become a menace to nature and animals on our planet. From dolphin and whale slaugher in Japan, Denmark and Peru; elephant and rhino killings for precious ivory in Africa, to horrific bear torture and dog killing in Romania and cruel dog fights with dire consequences to injured animals in the USA – humans ARE the problem!
And don’t even get me started on Fukushima…
My sincere hope is that one day reason and compasion prevail, and humans turn from being the most feared menace on our planet, to its stewards and protectors!

The Chinese New Year of the Wood Horse starts on January 31, 2014. The celebrations, as always will last for 15 days. The coming year is a very special year in the Chinese calendar. Why? Read on to find out.
But first, let me explain why this year is called the Year of the Wood Horse.
Chinese elements and colors of the Wood Horse
Just like in Western astrology, there are 12 zodiac signs in the Chinese horoscope. However, since the Chinese system is based on EARTH WISDOM, each sign is denoted not by a celestial body, as in Western astrology, but by an earthly animal totem.
Although there are only 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac wheel, in actuality each year configuration can repeat only every 60 years, and here is the reason why. In addition to animal signs, the Chinese system also goes by the five elements: water, wood, fire, earth and metal. Therefore, there are 5 types of each animal, depending on which element cycle we are in. Consequently, there are five types of the Horse Year.
We have now switched from the WATER to the WOOD 5-year cycle. Therefore, The New Year 2014 is the YEAR OF THE WOOD HORSE. The color of wood is green (and also brown as in the trunk of a tree), so the Year of the Wood Horse is sometimes referred to as the Year of the Green Horse.
Meanwhile, the horse itself rules the SOUTH of the Chinese zodiac wheel. The color of the south is RED – denoting fire – therefore the self-color of the HORSE is red and its self-element is fire.
Since in reality, there are no green, nor red horses, for the Year of the Wood Horse, I’ll stick with brown color scheme for my horse pics. 
This gorgeous photo of two beautiful brown horses (the mommy and her baby, denoting protection, nourishment and future growth) galloping joyfully through a lush blooming meadow, to me represent the core essence of the WOOD HORSE.
Chinese Numerology of the Horse
As mentioned above, the Horse resides in the SOUTH of the Chinese zodiac wheel, thus symbolizing the fire element. In the Chinese numerology, the number associated with the south and fire is 9 (nine). The number 9 is called the great multiplier. This is because if you multiply 9 by any number of times and then add the digits of the resulting number, you’ll again get nine. Example: 9×3=27. 2+7=9. Magic, I tell ya! That’s why 9 is also considered the ultimate magical number in all world’s numerological systems.
I love the Year of the Horse! Horses are beautiful and free. I love displaying jade and bronze horse images in my home at any time, and doubly so this year! Although my sign isn’t a Horse, I have a special affinity with the Horse as my personal SUCCESS number is 9 and my personal success direction is the South.

What to wear for your New Year of the Wood Horse celebration?
The colors of the Year of the Wood Horse are RED and GREEN. In the Chinese elements system green = wood; red = fire. Wood symbolizes growth and also wealth (depending on its shade), and red symbolizes energy and action. If you wear a combination of these two, you’ll definitely greet the New Year of the Horse in great style!
2014 – YEAR OF THE WOOD HORSE PREDICTIONS
General Overview
It is said that the Year of the Horse is always special as the horse symbolizes great freedom, prosperity, good news, fame, fortune and energy. This year is doubly special, as the added wood element makes the fire of the horse burn brighter and even more ferociously, if left unattended. The great multiplier, number 9 further multiplies the effects of this year, both good and bad.
What does all this mean for the world and each of us individually? On the positive side, there are possibilities of great initiations and the energy is terrific for new ventures, expansion, bringing plans to fruition, fame and for some – even wealth.
Lapchun Prediction
Another positive this year is that we have the so called LAPCHUN, or the proverbial “spring.” In the Chinese system Lapchun doesn’t happen every year, and when it doesn’t, it is hard or counterproductive to start something new as it will not take off. The great news is that this year we have Lapchun, therefore, new shoots, new beginnings will take root!
2014 Flying Star/Compass School Feng Shui Prediction
In the advanced Flying Star Feng Shui, we combine the Chinese numerology with the Compass School of Feng Shui to achieve best results. In the Flying Stars system, the ultimate good fortune White Star #8 co-incidentally happens to fly to the SOUTH, the seat of the Horse. Therefore, anyone associated with the sign of the Horse, #No. 9, or South as one’s lucky direction, will benefit greatly from 2014!
The luckiest sector of the house to be in 2014 is South. Note, this is not because this is the Year of the Horse, but because of the #8 White Star.
Tai Sui, or the guardian of the year, also just happens to travel to the South this year. As we see, there is an unusually high concentration of different contradictory forces and signs associated with the South in 2014. Tai Sui is a very powerful invisible presence, and as such, he really likes his peace and quiet. 2014 World Events Prediction
Due to the volatility of the Wood Horse combo, the events in the world will tend to spiral out of control. Tempers, ignited by the fire multiplied by wood, will flare much too easily; fights may be gloves off and very ugly. Natural and man-made disasters, especially related to fires and explosions, will further intensify. Various rebellions, violent protests around the world will unfortunately continue.
Protests against rotten and corrupt systems will continue and intensify. However, these protests will lack reason and will tend to spiral out of control, as well as be hijacked by interests with ulterior motives, as we are already seeing happen in countries such as Egypt and Ukraine.
Tying this point with the above: disturbing the energy of Tai Sui with anger and violence will most likely backfire - and not just in the South of the world.
Here I have to dig deeper into this decade: we are going through a MASSIVE tectonic shift in consciousness and global structures. Whatever is not fastened well, will be blown away, whatever was not solidly built, will crumble and be replaced. This is true for the entire decade: various angry and violent protests, as well as revelations of conspiracies, corruption and greed, will continue.
So, anchor and fasten everything in your life, and build your structures solidly, if you don’t want them to be blown away!
In conclusion, I will mention that as with anything, while senseless violence in the world continues and intensifies, at the same time, new forces are rising that will eventually replace the present rotting socio-economical system with a more equitable and more sustainable system. Such forces are growing both in the East and in the West. The Year of the Wood Horse is a terrific year for the consolidation and further advancement of such forces!

Save Our Dolphins! Help Stop Mass Dolphin Slaughter in Japan!
My next post was supposed to be about the Chinese New Year of the Horse and my predictions for the year 2014. But then I learned about what is happening in Japan right this moment! 500 dolphins have been trapped in the infamous Taiji Cove where the bleeding, stressed, petrified animals await their gruesome deaths! I am shocked and shaken to the core by this despicable mass slaughter of the gentlest, most beautiful and evolved creatures our planet has ever produced! And all this – for greed and profit!
Japan defends their barbaric annual dolphin slaughter ritual as a Japanese tradition. Slavery was also a tradition; does that mean we should have kept it too?
Beautiful, playful #bottlenose dolphins that are being mercilessly slaughtered in Japan right now!
My predictions for the Year of the Horse will have to wait. This post is dedicated to the #dolphins who are being slaughtered in Japan one by one right now!

I am #Heartbroken and cannot watch the video below without tears. I cannot bring myself to post such cruel, reprehensible, disgustingly shameful footage of mass murder of innocent, beautiful dolphins on my blog. It is shocking and very difficult to watch, however it must be watched! Awareness has to be raised, madness has to stop, we, humans, need to wake up!

This is one of the most heartbreaking videos I’ve ever seen! Dolphins are endowed with high consciousness and together with whales they serve as a bridge to higher consciousness for humans. Universally known are many, many cases when dolphins have saved humans. They are always playful, kind, sociable, benign beings, who love to accompany ships and swimmers, and even protect humans from sharks.
And this is how we repay these beautiful creatures – by mass murdering them in the most inhumane, cruel fashion imaginable? Atrocities being regularly committed against dolphins and #whales in #Japan and #Peru make me ashamed to be a part of the human race!

“Five separate pods of bottlenose dolphins totaling more than 250 individuals including juveniles and babies were driven into Taiji’s infamous killing cove on Thursday, where they have endured four days of a bloody and traumatizing captive selection process,” Sea Shepherd said in a statement that accused the fishermen of depriving their captives of food while they awaited slaughter.

The clock is ticking!
Not only is #Japan responsible for #Fukushima, not only it is responsible for the ongoing and growing poisoning of the Earth’s oceans and our planet’s atmosphere with radiation to such a degree that no known to man technology can counter it, it is also a profitable business there to engage in the annual mass slaughter of dolphins and whales every September through March!
The dolphins are very trusting and innocent and because of that, they get trapped and captured much too easily by humans in Taiji Cove, Japan. It is much easier, and therefore much more profitable, to prey on such benevolent and peaceful beings!
Japan is infamous for its shameful “annual dolphin hunt,” when the waters of the bay turn crimson from blood of terrified, wounded and killed dolphins. Most dolphins that get trapped get mercilessly slaughtered, while a few get selected to be transported live to aquaria and marine parks across the globe.
The cruel and painful slaughter of 20,000 dolphins, porpoises and small whales occurs in Japan each year!!!

Among many other places, the iconic torch visited Red Square, went deep underground into the diamond mines of the Northern #Siberia’s #Yakutia region, took a ride on a reindeer sleigh, went to the majestic Far Eastern peninsula of #Kamchatka and burned underwater in the depths of Lake #Baikal; it even was delivered to the North Pole and took a space walk outside the #ISS in Outer Space! Radiant Health. Only in Russia: Plunging in Icy River On Epiphany
Remember the picture from my viral Russian New Year’s post where a group of people is floating a New Year’s tree in a chilly river? See my New Year’s post here. They are members of the Russian winter swimmers club, “Morzhi.” Morzhi are known for their regular swims during the dead of winter in temperatures far below freezing. Why do they do it, you ask? The short answer is for health and vitality. Much like a yogi in India, by doing extreme exercise, they master their body and its response to outside conditions, which are beyond their control.
It is a scientific fact that our body becomes more disease resistant, our mood and outlook improves dramatically, optimism and peace enters our mind as a result of this cold submersion. Similar to this experience is the experience of a Russian banya (bania), where you first sweat in an enclosed heated space, most often with herb infusions poured onto hot coals to generate steam, which opens up lungs, and then either plunge in the snow to cool off, jump into a cold pool, or traditionally get splashed with cold water out of a wooden bucket.
I grew up in Odessa, on the Black Sea coast. Although it wasn’t as cold as in the rest of Russia in the winter, the Black Sea was still quite chilly, and sometimes even froze. Most of the time though, it was ice free and our local Morzhi always took a regular plunge. I wasn’t as brave. Still, I too was known to dip my feet, splash my face and my body (does miracles to your skin), in lieu of total submersion. And of course, I adored my banya! Missing it every day.
Epiphany is a Russian Orthodox holiday celebrated in January and the Epiphany cold water plunge is one of long-standing Russian traditions. Religiously inclined or not, tens of thousands of people plunge into icy waters every January to spiritual music and prayer, emerging healthier and stronger. It is a proven scientific fact that extreme cold water jump starts the immune system mechanism allowing the body to better withstand extreme winter cold. Those who do it swear they reap incredible health benefits all year long. (Warning: don’t attempt something like this on your own if you are not used to it, or if you have a heart condition. First, in all cases consult your physician.)
That’s what I call a New Year resolution! Watch this literally “cool,” new video of a brave RT correspondent giving the Epiphany plunge a try, and how it feels, lol.
P.S. You can hear a man in the background repeatedly saying “molodets” – a traditional Russian word of encouragement, roughly translated as “great job.”

I Don’t Want to Protect the Animals – I Want to Create the World in Which They Don’t Need Protecting!

When I see such grave injustice and #animalabuse, I can’t keep silent! I just signed two petitions at change.org to protect the animals: first one against outrageously barbaric practice of killing #rhinoceros in Africa for their highly prized horns, which threatens to annihilate the last survivors of this ancient and rare species; second – for creating a registry of all known domestic animal abusers in the USA. The innocent animals that are a subject of these two petitions are as different as they get, but the conclusion is, unfortunately, the same – the predator, the abuser, the murderer in all cases is A HUMAN! This makes me very sad to be a part of the human race. There is only one hope: those of us who are conscious, those who have compassion and those who care for life on our planet, must take action by signing petitions and spreading awareness, so that such horrible atrocities would stop now!

In the wild, the adult black or white rhino has no true natural predators and, despite its size and antagonistic reputation, it is extremely easy for man to kill. A creature of habit that lives in a well-defined home range, it usually goes to water holes daily, where it is easily ambushed and killed.
Africa’s rhinos are facing a constant threat due to poachers and trophy hunting. Poaching is on a general increase whilst efforts to protect the rhinoceros are being considered increasingly ineffective. The reports found that 95% of rhino poaching in Africa since 2006 had occurred in Zimbabwe and South Africa : these two nations collectively form the epicentre of an unrelenting poaching crisis in southern Africa.” Read more.
Baby rhino mourning his mother, who was killed and mutilated by poachers in front of his eyes! And this is done in the supposedly highly protected National Parks!

The incident occurred even though the reserve is protected by a 150-strong security force unparalleled in the conservation world, and is a grim indication of the rising demand for ivory and rhino horn, and the risks poachers are willing to take to feed it. The problem is not limited to Kenya. Poaching throughout Africa is at its highest level since the ivory trade ban was introduced in 1990, and the amount of raw ivory intercepted last year was the highest for 20 years.”

Humans have developed weapons that no animal on this planet, no matter how large, can counter or protect themselves against. Meanwhile, humans should be the stewards and protectors of the living, breathing Mother Earth. It is shameful that the opposite is true, with a human being by far the most vicious, most feared predator on our planet. All illegal animal parts trade must be strictly banned / enforced worldwide, all hunting of endangered species, and any hunting for sport of innocent animals must cease! Rhinos are amazing, unique animals that speak of biodiversity and beauty of our common home, the Earth. We must protect them, and the guilty ones have to be punished in such a way that these incidents would never repeat again!!! If we don’t change this terrible status quo, who will?
P.S. Also needed petitions to the governments of China, Vietnam and other Asian countries known to import or smuggle highly prized parts of rare animals, such as elephant and rhino horns, Siberian tiger teeth, whiskers and pelts. These governments don’t do nearly enough, and sometimes even close their eyes on illicit practices! These governments must do MUCH MORE to educate their respective populations, to raise awareness of the need for animal conservation/protection, to ban such despicable practices, and to adequately enforce these bans!

Just imagine the cruelty of those who put a muzzle on a dog and use him as bait while training other dogs to fight! Just imagine the despicable subhumans who first abuse their dog’s loyalty and desire to please their owner by making him fight other dogs for money, and then, after it is badly injured and can’t fight any more, throw it out on the street to die! Can you imagine any of this? It’s very hard, I know. I personally have a lot of trouble imagining what kind of a… no, not animal; I couldn’t insult animals like that… a wild beast would do such things! Unfortunately, these beasts, these subhumans are all members of the same human race. If we, those who are not like them, don’t stop them, who will?
So, while I agree with above petition statement, my biggest goal in creating a public registry of all known animal abusers would be to actually protect defenseless animals, so that those who’ve ever been known or even suspected of #animalabuse would be prevented from ever being anywhere near another innocent creature they could abuse and so they could never get any job even remotely related to dealing with animals, or be allowed to purchase or adopt an animal!
I can immediately tell by looking at animals what kind of people they live with. I can also tell right away what kind of town I am in by how the animals in such town behave. Happy animals = good people.

New Youtube Channel and 2014 Predictions
I’ve been known to predict the future, quite accurately as a rule (you can get a taste of my past predictions at the bottom of this post). Some of my fans have been writing to me, asking why I have stopped doing my predictions and whether I’d be doing them again for this year and beyond. The answer is, I haven’t abandoned my predictions; in fact, I continue making them every day, as my close ones would attest, who complain that they know more about the future than they’ve ever wanted to, lol. 
The truth is, as my vision continued expanding, I began feeling a pressing need to significantly reshape the format in which I communicated my vision and ideas to the world at large. I am presently re-structuring many things in my life, including how I connect via social media with my fans and readers. One of the things I am working on, is my new Youtube channel, where I will be posting my predictions, among other things. I intend to cover a broad range of subjects, including spirituality, expansion of consciousness, geopolitical, societal & financial restructuring of the world, Earth changes and environment, Feng Shui, and more… Some of these topics and views were covered in my metaphysical fantasy/thriller, THE EARTH SHIFTER. But in all honesty, I can really only consider THE EARTH SHIFTER a primer, as my vision expands well beyond that!

Extreme water pollution and flammability is connected to fracking in various states. One of the disastrous examples is New York’s neighbor, Pennsylvania, which allows fracking freely. And this is just one of the adverse effects! Among others is drastic increase in seismic activity, with quakes and tremors registering as often as several times a day in states like Texas! What is next?

Happy New Year 2014 and Happy 100,000 Visits to Lada Ray Blog!
Lots to celebrate! New Year 2014′s knocking on the door + Lada Ray Blog is celebrating its 2nd anniversary, and to top it off, my blog has recently hosted its one-hundred-thousand’s visitor! That’s over 100,000 people who enjoyed my thoughts, writing, photos and info! This makes me very happy indeed! GRIN!

I thought that to mark the holiday and my first 100,000 visitors, I’d post some cool images of the New Year’s celebration in Russia and around the world.
First, as usual, some background info. How Russia celebrates New Year: In Russia, as in many other countries, New Year is the main holiday of the year. It is a secular holiday. Meanwhile Russian religious Christmas is celebrated 2 weeks after Western Christmas, and one week after New Year’s, according to Russia’s Orthodox calendar.
The New Year Tree is normally put up just after Western Christmas (which reminds me, I should really start decorating mine). The New Year is celebrated with Ded Moroz (Father Frost – the equivalent of Santa Claus) and his granddaughter Snegurochka (Snow Maiden). There are usually festive and entertaining concerts during the New Year’s Eve, New Year’s night and on January 1, on TV, on Red Square, and in towns and cities around the country. There are many children’s “New Year Tree” parties, in Russian: “Yolochka”. And of course, a lavish New Year table and presents are a must! Russians love to party. It helps that the entire country gets 10 days off to celebrate. What is especially funny from the US perspective is that some Russians complain that this is too much time off, lol!
Some travel during this time, some go to parties, concerts, walks, or simply relax. And as a non-drinker, I have to say that one Russian habit isn’t the coolest from my perspective: there are those who also drink way too much. Perhaps that’s why some feel that too much time on their hands prompts those who can’t control themselves to use it for drinking, instead of doing something productive. Of course, one might argue that alcohol warms an cheers you up during cold Russian winter.
Two weeks after New Year’s and one week after Russian Orthodox Christmas (Rozhdestvo), there is another interesting holiday – The Old New Year, celebrated on January 14-15th. This is a left-over piece of the old Russian Grigorian calendar, where all holidays were 14 days later than Western calendar due to the leap year difference. The Old New Year is a nostalgic and meditative time, when many reflect on the past and plan for the future.
Also, one of the sacred New Year traditions is watching classic Russian New Year’s comedies, which we observe religiously in our household as well. And how can you not watch these magical masterpieces, together with their wonderful songs, if they never get old, and never fail to put you in a joyful, wonderful, holiday spirit! The Most beloved New Year comedies are The Irony of Fate, or Enjoy Your Banya (Ironiya Sudbi, ili S Legkim Parom, 1975) and Carnival Night (Karnavalnaya Noch, 1956), both by the same director, Eldar Ryazanov.
