Former stateleader of the German Democratic Republic. Krenz was 50 days in office.

After the fall of the GDR he was sentenced to a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence. Krenz objected to the sentence because he claimed the laws of of the new BRD state did not apply to events that had taken place in the GDR. After three years he was released.

Krenz is one of the few GDR politicians who continues to defend the former German Democratic Republic
