Authors Weigh In

Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Stumbleupon Delicious Digg Reddit Designfloat

I have tried to capitalize on social media with my latest release. The jury is still out on what is and is not working for me. If you write Christian fiction or non-fiction I suggest you try the Book Club Network (TBCN). TBCN is a readers club that offers many outlets for authors to connect with readers. They have really trained their members to give fair reviews and to post them on several sites.

I also tried a Goodreads giveaway. Again the goal was to get reviews. I offered two different novels on Goodreads. Goodreads readers tended to rate the book without posting a review. Most of my reviews that appear on Goodreads were actually posted by TBCN members.

I am currently running a giveaway (my first) on Amazon. I am really trying to make more people aware of my author presence. The giveaway has been running a couple of days. I’ve had about 250 hits and 1 winner so far. There are 10 prizes available through the end of this month.

If you are an author and have tried any of these avenues or others, I’d like to hear from you. What’s working? What’s not working?

Transparency

Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Stumbleupon Delicious Digg Reddit Designfloat

Writing is the easiest thing I do as an author. Marketing is the hardest. Every time I ask someone to buy my book, read my book and/or hopefully review my book, I am asking for judgement. When its good, its very good. When its bad, it stings. I try not to take it personally. I try to find value in the feedback I am receiving, both good and bad.

I am determined to stay true to myself, the characters and their story. That means sometimes, I offend some people. I don’t set out to offend anyone, but I have to tell it like it is. I want people to relate to the characters I write. I want readers to wonder if there might be more than a bit of truth in my make believe world. I want readers to question not only the story, but their own realities as well.  That’s asking a lot, so I have to be prepared for the backlash and keep on plugging.

I am as transparent as glass, but I will not break.

Just Released!

Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Stumbleupon Delicious Digg Reddit Designfloat

The fourth and final installment is here. Check out my last article for Book Fun Magazine (for now). I must admit I enjoyed the challenge of writing a regular article. It’s a bit hard for this introvert to get personal and open up about myself, but I did it 4 months in a row. Enjoy!

Good News

Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Stumbleupon Delicious Digg Reddit Designfloat

Good news for 39 lucky Goodreads winners – your books are in the mail! 39 because one lucky person won both books. I wish I had that kind of luck.

On another note, you can look for articles from me in upcoming issues of Book Fun Magazine. I’ll share a little piece of me in the September, October, November and December issues. I’ll also be on the September chat with The Book Club Network’s Club for Readers Only. Join the fun for another opportunity to win a copy of Sedahlia, hang out with book lovers and authors, and have a good time. And the best news yet. It’s free!
