A Creative Spark of PEACE!

www.michaelsortomme.com

What a week it’s been; it is waning, thank the G-ds, old and new. The mass-murder in Syria is hard to stomach. We fight and die for the power oil promises but are long in reaction for rescue for blood. I don’t remember the US sending troops to Darfur, no, but Libya, yes. Yes, yes, I understand Iran and the threat of WW3 if we respond to this wholesale carnage, but it still makes my heart sad. My mitochondrial birthplace of my mother’s mother, some thousands of years ago (long after Doggerland 13,000 years ago, that is), is Aleppo, Syria. We still have strong ties there and in Lebanon, Morocco, Iraq and Israel. Sure, look at my picture, you will find a light skinned person, with fair undertones and Scandinavian features, yes, it’s true. Have you looked at the news lately? Lots of Arabs are fair with green eyes, olive to the eye, with dark or reddish hair, like my exotic mother had. It is also true that I am—try to say this in one breath—a Norse Saami Jewish Arab Rromany, with a splash of everything in between. Daughter of All Nations is meant to be literal, the moniker on my main website. If I can survive within my own skin, as wrinkled, splotched and saggy as it is, the world could at least try to co-exist. We face an unsure future, as always, but, this time, we are called to action. We must find a tiny glimmer of light and hope from within to get through this unfolding drama in the Middle East. The ancient Huna chant for healing is appropriate today: I LOVE YOU, I AM SORRY. It is amazing the power of collective positivity! Shalom, Salam, Peace, please. Seriously, do you have something more important to do tonight other than starting a creative spark of PEACE? It takes seconds to light a candle—try it. Love is the law; pass it around—what could it hurt?

We are now a U-Tube Channel!

Hi all; hope this finds you well, enjoying the beginning of the work week.

Mark and I finally finished the series of five videos for U-Tube last night. As you might remember, the series is based on an interview I did for “Over to Oberon & Ariel” on BlogTalkRadio in December of 2011. It feels really good to have this chuck of our video selections out of our hair; we are ready to go “LIVE WITH MICHAEL!” Producing five videos since the New Year has taught us so much on many levels; we are grateful for our new direction.

We also changed the titles for the videos. People were confused about differing titles for the series. So, we have streamlined the finding/watching experience. We are hoping it will produce more hits, likes and Google stats.

Exciting news: we are now a U-Tube channel. We still cannot use copyrighted music to keep our status, but that is a small price to pay for proper subscriptions, better in-house tagging line-ups (hopefully), future advertisers, and hopefully, longevity.

We have several more series outlined and are excited to be starting on them very soon. Please help us get the word out by sharing, posting, liking, etc. We do appreciate what ever positive support you can muster.

Peace,
Michael

The new title is: “Spiritual Survival: 2012-2020, Parts 1 through 5, Michael Sortomme”.

Mildly Nosy

www.michaelsortomme.com

“Being mildly nosy is a good thing—shows people you care, which is really important! It’s the little things that people remember, the small kindnesses that add up over a lifetime. Those are the true treasures! Don’t deprive anyone of those special experiences—it’s called love…”

Definition of the term, “Reincarnationist”

Reincarnationist is a term I coined many years ago as a communicative tool to explain the kind of person and the process one goes through as a “Rememberer”, one who has prolific, historically verifiable, on the surface memory of past lives. The late great scientist, Dr. Ian Stevenson (Dept of Psychiatry, University of VA, the person I dedicated my historical novel, The Emancipation of Giles Corey, to), studied those who had psychically “survived” the death and rebirth cycle as Rememberers (also one of my terms). For thirty years, he journeyed the world in search for answers and proof of the phenomenon of “rapid-reincarnators”, the silver area between the worlds, the reality I am all too familiar with.

The Two Basic Forms of Art Expression

www.michaelsortomme.com

I rediscovered the joy of words later in life, with the seasoned eyes and hands of a visual artist. It was a perfect fit, the flow of words moving almost as smoothly as paint on paper, knife on canvas.

Sitting at the knees of my parents, watching them paint, caught in their passionate worlds only they were privy to; I soon realized that there were many forms and reasons for art. My mother specialized in symbolic art, meant for specific audiences to convey precise messages, while my father painted rolling, constantly moving land and seascapes. They depended on art to put food on the table, clients visiting the studio, the largest room of our home, looking for just the right tone of teal to match their sofas. Money motivated some paintings, the ones that were unusually pastel in shade, fitting the perfect pre-purchased frames. Other paintings came directly from the heart, alizarin crimson shades of dark stories untold and dangerous staring faces. They were all for sale. There was no such thing as holding onto one’s baby. The more art sold, the more food bought, the electric bill paid, gas in the car, more clients by recommendation came.

By the time I entered college, I knew the difference between art for one’s self and art for the world, regardless of money exchanged or value given. Live from one’s art, the difference is plain to see…

Art for the Self is Art Therapy, a process of embracing one’s hands, eyes and souls in a dance with brush, pen and paper, in order to express one’s pain, longing, and regret. It is a tool of isolating particular emotional maladies and gathers information detailing abuse and neglect for use by psychotherapists. Art Therapy is not for the public’s harsh critiques or used for pay as illustration or other’s fancy and entertainment.

Art for the World is Communicative Art, designed and manufactured for specific reasons and audiences. Communicative Art carries a message, without an audience to view it, it has no purpose. Purpose is the motivator, focus is the tool, art is the final outcome, an illustrative story complete with detail.

Neither form of visual art expression is superior to the other, for they are separate categories, set in motion for separate reasons that do not, often, intersect. Art Therapy validates the self by the actual creation of it. There are no judges or awards given for exposed secrets or details of torture, the art just is, a product of self discovery, purging and starting anew. Communicative Art uses the synergy of importance and talent to communicate a specific point of view and is invalid in the present without an audience; good or bane makes no difference. Communicative Art is a symbiotic process between artist and viewer, two equal parts caught in the interaction of ideas. Validation for the artist becomes a mute point, because it’s the interaction that counts, it is the fuel that dictates the artist’s next piece. In simple terms, the two different art-forms are akin to the difference between diary and novel.

I am a Communicative Artist with paint, pencil and words. I work with a mission in mind, with a focus that drives until the entire picture is revealed. It is always nice when I receive a compliment, but that’s not the motivator, the intoxicant that keeps me driven to be heard. It is the audience itself, the spark of new ideas that art generates that keeps me going. I see it in the faces of others when the passion of forgotten desires surface, when nature melds with the mind. Magick happens then and lives are changed. It makes no difference if the viewer likes it or not, they are engaged and feeling! That’s the rush for the Communicative Artist: someone gets it, on some level, at one time. That’s enough to make the heart sing, to be sure!

THE SENSITIVE'S CIRCLE

THE SENSITIVE'S CIRCLE, FINDING BALANCE & CREATING HOPE, is Michael Sortomme's second title released in 2011. It has been a busy year for the author, artist and self-styled spiritual visionary.

Returning to her tried and true genre of self-help and spiritual practice, The Sensitive’s Circle reaches out to the growing group of disenfranchised psychics, caretakers and conscious healthcare providers. They are overwhelmed by the weight of responsibility and overloaded by the call to save the planet.

This exciting new title provides a helping hand to the keepers of balance, too overworked to fulfill their own needs and provide their inner beings and Higher Selves with nourishment.

The words are uplifting and edifying, the art draws the soul’s recognition of truth to the surface and the prayers are relevant for our time. It is written not for the novice, nor the adept, but is geared for all people of many professions that feel, give and express until it hurts.
