The Hoods Are Coming!
Cover art by Skott KilanderI posted a little about Hoods, Hot Rods, and Hellcatsbefore. Now that we’re racing to the final lap, I wanted to drop a dime on the line-up. In the anthology, you’ll find 8 lengthy stories from Eric Beetner, me, Matthew Funk, Christopher Grant, David James Keaton, Nik Korpon, Heath Lowrance, and Thomas Pluck. And an introduction by one of my idols, Mick Farren:
"...the world of Hoods, Hot Rods, and Hellcats is a dirty cocktail of fact, fable, fears, and fantasi...

Good Stress
On Saturday, February 16, +David James Keaton put together a reading and invited me to attend. I rode down to Louisville with my friend +Rick Schmelz. He’s from the general area, had to stop at his brother’s house anyway, and it had been a while since the two of us had gotten a chance to hang out. We ended up making fantastic time on the way down and arrived at the location early. Though we missed getting the chance to hang out with David and his wife ahead of time, Rick and...

Beautiful Girls
Lately the wife and I have been revisiting a lot of movies we haven’t seen in a while that we both remember liking. Some we own and hadn’t taken off the shelf in years, and others just ended up in the Netflix instant queue as soon as they popped up in the onscreen menus.
It’s been a hit and miss experience. I expected some of it, but a few films have surprised me.
In Ted Demme’s ensemble dramedy
Beautiful Girls
, Timothy Hutton returns to his small town for his high school reunion. He hangs out...

Last Saturday
Last Saturday as it started snowing again, we pulled into the strip mall a couple of blocks south of the square and parked by the all-ages music club and youth center. I finished my cigarette, grabbed the camera, then we both got out and walked around the building into the long alley that stretches from Smith up to 3rdstreet.
With the wind, it was bitter cold since the buildings funneled most of the chill straight down the alley. Though Friday was still unpleasant, it had warmed up enough to...

Black Fields Forever
In The Clear, Black Fields of Night is now available for the Kindle. It’s only 99 cents and includes Garnett Elliot’s “Loose Ends” short as a bonus. Pick it up here and, in case you missed it, grab Simon Rip’s first adventure here.
As a big fan of sci-fi pulp adventure, I’m very excited for Black Fields to finally be loose in the wild. To encourage your excitement, here’s what I’m gonna do: anyone who e-mails me proof that they purchased Black Fields by February 8th will get their name to...

Cakewalk
My copy of Feeding Kate. This benefit anthology is the only place you’ll ever be able to read my story “Cakewalk.” Originally put together to help Sabrina Ogden with her jaw surgery, it is now available for the Kindle. All proceeds now benefit The Lupus Foundation.

Cover Reveal
Simon Rip’s next adventure is almost here. In The Clear, Black Fields of Night is my novella follow-up to BTAP’s A Rip Through Time written by Chris Holm, Charles Gramlich, Garnett Elliott, and me.
If you liked the timecop's first adventure, you should appreciate this one. The stakes are higher, several lingering questions are answered, the truth of the conspiracy is revealed, and if you thought "The Last Painting of Hawley Exton" was a simple coda then you'll see just how wro...

What's So Funny? Nothing.
Except for a few instances, DC has had bad luck adapting their comic properties. Most of DC’s films have been terrible, but their animated features are almost always pretty good. Over my winter break, they added a number to Netflix streaming and I watched several.
Superman vs. The Elite is an animated film based on Action Comics issue #775 (2001), “What’s So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?”
The plot is pretty simple.

What I've Learned
I’ve had a lot of different magazine subscriptions over the years. The first were all fiction magazines: Alfred Hitchcock, Ellery Queen, The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, and Realms of Fantasy. When I started gaming, I picked up Dragon Magazine. Near the end of my teenage years, it was all shit like Details, Maxim, and Stuff—you know, magazines that were basically the print equivalent to SPIKE. Then, of course, freshman year of college there was the nigh-obligatory subscription to...

Coming in 2013
There's a lot of words coming down the pipe from me in 2013. Here's a taste:
In The Clear, Black Fields of Night—The novella-length sequel to A Rip Through Time should be available soon. Black Fields finds Simon Rip assembling a team to end the fight against The Company’s conspiracy once and for all.
Hoods, Hot Rods, and Hellcats—Right now, I’m waiting on the introduction before racing to the finish line with this anthology of greaser crime tales.
Blood on the Milky Way—Wrote this post-apocalyp...
