Today’s the Day!

Just a short post to announce the release of my eBook on KDP (Amazon) today. The Assays of Ata began as a fun, not-too-serious project where I wrote a fantasy story episode by episode for consumption by my sisters. Fast-forward 5 months, and I’ve self-published (with the enthusiastic encouragment of the aforementioned siblings) with another two books planned to complete the story arc. Despite still floundering a bit in terms of knowing how things work and how to get the most out of reviews a...

Midnight Oil
To say I’m a night owl is putting it mildly… If staying up until the wee hours were a sport, I’d be an Olympic medalist. My most regular activity during Dracula’s promenade time is reading (the ‘just one more chapter’ lie never ceases to spin its evil, alluring spell), but recently I’ve also started writing during this time – it’s usually dead quiet, and nobody bothers me with annoying things like wanting to chit-chat and socialise (how dare they?). Sometimes, I even indulge in a Netflix maratho...

Exciting developments
Guten Tag!
Mein Name ist Kara und ich möchte Deutsch leren… But it’s going very slowly and, naturally, my usage is riddled with mistakes (so challenging for the immediate-gratification monkey on my back!). Over the past week, I’ve flown to Germany and have settled in at the language school that will be my ‘home, sweet home’ for the next 5 – 6 months (if “settled” is loosely defined as: I know where I sleep and sort of where the nearest grocery shop is). It’s still a bit surreal and overwhelmi...

It’s the final countdown… ish
Being 5 days away from a big change in my personal circumstances and having two major work-related deadlines before then, one would think I can knuckle down and get stuff done. Oh, no, no, no, sweet summer child. With due dates looming and a flight halfway around the world waiting, I am twiddling my thumbs and faffing with writing the first draft of The Trials of Ata. Not efficiently, I might add – very little actual progress is being made with Chapter 2.
As with other master-level procrastin...

Putting the ‘pro’ in pro-crastination

There’s an expression: ‘New year, new you!’, which I both agree and disagree with (I am a notorious both-sider and fence-sitter in my family). In my case, it is true in that 2024 will see the achievement of something that I have wanted for a long time but never managed – the publication of my first novel!

Putting the ‘pro’ in procrastination

There’s an expression: ‘New year, new you!’, which I both agree and disagree with (I am a notorious both-sider and fence-sitter in my family). In my case, it is true in that 2024 will see the achievement of something that I have wanted for a long time but never managed – the publication of my first novel! However, I wouldn’t really describe it as a ‘new’ me, because I have always enjoyed writing (and reading!), and have been scribbling away in earnest at various projects since...

Adulting for Dummies
20 December 2023
You can probably tell from the title of this blog post that I’m a Millennial – we do so love our little verbing word quirks; thus, you can also surmise that the unelicited aches and pains of mid-life have commenced for me. To say I find the realization that groaning when one gets up in the morning is not merely a symptom of my “ancient” parents is disconcerting to say the least.
Where have all the years gone, I ask myself? Why do I feel so ill-equipped to be the age I am, ...

Testing… Testing…

Thank you for visiting. What can I say – everyone is welcome here
Except
people who dislike all animals… Can’t trust ’em, methinks. And
people who crack their knuckles every five minutes. You give me the
heeby-jeebies on a regular basis, by the way, so thanks for that.
This entire enterprise has one aim: to contribute to the already impressive and exponentially expanding body of literature compiled by people – storytellers, weavers of fairy tales, writers of word-worlds....
