Guilherme Avelino Chave de Azevedo (1839-1882) nasceu em Santarém e faleceu em Paris. Estudou Humanidades no liceu de Santarém, tendo fundado e dirigido o jornal O Alfageme (1871). Fixa-se em Lisboa, onde se junta à Geração de 70, participando nas Conferências do Casino. Colaborou na Lanterna Mágica e no Álbum das Glórias, este último ilustrado com caricaturas de Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. Sendo correspondente jornalístico do Gazeta de Notícias do Rio de Janeiro, parte em 1880 para Paris, onde viria a falecer. As influências poéticas sofridas vão de Lamartine a Victor Hugo, mostrando a sua poesia algumas semelhanças com a de Cesário Verde.
