About the Author:
I began writing in earnest in 1992. It took several years to finish that first book, and then it took a few more years beyond that not-very-good-first-attempt to finally write a story that I believed was good, and, in that second story, I found my voice as a writer. I also found the main character of all of my novels thus far, Clancy Evans. I currently have eight eBooks on Kindle published by Wolfpack Publishing. Clancy is the private investigator trying to discover the truth about whatever situation she finds herself involved in, usually a murder.
What was interesting about finding Clancy as well as discovering my writing voice is that in my first attempt at a novel my hero was a man named Clancy. After three chapters, i discovered I did not like him and wanted to kill him off. However, on the advice of my then editor, my wife, I chose to simply change him from a man to a woman and “she” became a character I enjoy spending time with as the stories evolve.
One of the aspects of writing a story I have learned along the journey of writing is that while I dearly love my main heroine, sometimes the story is driven largely by the other characters who show up unexpectedly. It is for me deliciously fun to have an unanticipated character arrive on the scene who then has a heavy or major influence on the story. I have some found some wonderfully devilish characters in this manner. To be sure, Clancy Evans still has the largest impact on a story I write; but, her friends — like Rosey and Starnes and Rogers (and even her Uncle Walters) are vital parts of the narrative.
