A native of Washington State, Sondra Kraak grew up playing in the rain, hammering Chopin at the piano, and running up and down the basketball court. After attending Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington, she moved to North Carolina to work for a small non-profit ministry. It was in the backroom of that office, amidst the clamor of copy machines and printers, that love blossomed. She married her mountain man in 2004, and they spent the first season of their marriage in New England where Sondra attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Now settled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, she works part-time at her church doing worship ministry. Happy Wednesday!
Today is the 4th of July. For those of us who are citizens of the United States of America, it is our Independence Day!
Many of us will be celebrating with family and / or friends, and I hope you have a great (and safe) time today. I’m only offering one book today, and it’s a freebie: The Declaration of Independence.
This version of the Declaration of Independence is a good one – just the text, without someone else’s commentary or dialogue. Thinking about the historical significance is sobering as you think of the lives lost in order to make this document happen – both when written as well as carried out over the years. This bold and unique document has served not only the USA, but has also served as a blueprint for other nations. Seeing as how it is free on Amazon, I encourage everyone to pick it up – no matter where you live in the world – and read it: I think you will be surprised at how some of the founding principles have eroded over time.
